Doughnut Files Term 7 - 9

Exactly ... but under orders from the team, I've lost my warm fuzzy ;)

This is why I don't go into any details ... I have changed the 1400 gold in draft.

I prefer to chat with Robi about the settling, unless someone can come up with a descriptive sentence.

Draft looks good Fe - I'd send it right away.

(you could add that we're giving "banking plus gold" ... or just leave it out. I guess I don't care too much)

Title ... MIA already playing with test tubes and flame tests
Howdy Doughnuts

Looks like TNT are losing cities left and right, is this all KISS or were you also involved in the latest?

In a couple of days, I will be sending a document to which you will attach your team seal. It will list the Gunpowder for Astronomy swap and all the non-aggression, anti-KISS clauses.

Regarding your recent offer, unfortunately due to swiftness of the turns it arrived to us after we had sent the save on :(

We have already begun researching Chemistry and would lose too many beakers to abandon it now.

However, we can present an additional option if you do not wish to pay 1400 gold for Banking , which can be sent in installments. This will be that you research Military Tradition, we would like this to be available no later than Turn 163. It is best for our alliance to utilise MIA's scientific trait rather than to stall at this stage, we aim for both of us to create the largest technology lead possible.

In the interim, we can discuss the final points of knowledge trading.

Have also noted that a luxury Dye trade with KISS has ended, may we ask your intentions regarding this?

Hope to chat with you soon.

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister.

Dnuts have a settler escorted by a Mounted Warrior right next to our silk settler. Since we want to stay on good terms, I suggest we speak to them immediately re: where we should settle.

Nuts! (pun intended)

I was hoping we'd talk to them before we were "discovered" - makes us look a bit sneaky.

I agree- we need to talk asap, and my vote is to be gracious in defering to the Nuts.
Just look at what our potential alliance with the Nutters does to our science plan! :wow: - I think we very clearly want to stay on good terms with them.

I'll work up a formal version of our treaty for Nuts to sign, and maybe we can send it to them along with a note about - "where are you headed, and we don't want to get in your way, please let us know" kind of thing.

Maybe they're headed for the Saltpeter? But I doubt it.

Ok – here are the treaties I worked up for the Nuts.

I've updated the look of our scrolls a bit. After all – we're in the AD's now!

I also did some edit worked on the treaty based on what's already happened, and on what the Nuts have told us about being interested in getting Banking without paying. I made the treaty to trade straight across Banking for Military Tradition. The beaker trade on that is heavily in our favor – but Nuts get banking now, and we have to wait for Military Tradition… so it's sortra fair I think. Worth a try anyway!

I haven't attached our seal at the end. I'll leave that to our most capable Foreign Minister if he likes what I've done!

I also propose we send a note like this along with the treaty…

Dear Doughnuts,

We've attached a draft for our treaty with your great people. We realize that some of these points are still under negotiation – so please feel free to negotiate on any points you don't agree with. We have tried to make this equitable to both sides – based on what you've already told us you want in letters and chats.

Also – there is the matter of our settler which has just recently landed near the TNT town of Mezzonite Keep. Our intention was to Settle just south of that Mountain and steal some of TNT's silk. We recognize that this is near your land, and before planting our settler we wish to make sure this is ok with you. If we get silks hooked up to our trade network before you "acquire" your own silks from TNT, we will gladly provide you our silks free of charge for 20 turns in exchange for your goodwill.

Now – we planned to send this note about our settler this turn anyway – but now that we have the save, we see you also have a settler near Mezzonite Keep. Were you planning on settling in the location South of the Mountain? Or are you headed for the Saltpeter in that Northern Mountain? If it was your intention to steal the silks as we were about to – we will gladly defer to your settler in a show of goodwill and settle further North ourselves.

Please let us know how you would like us to proceed, and we will happily accommodate you.

We look forward to hearing back from you on the treaty and on the settler as soon as possible!

Your friends across the Sea,
MIA

Hopefully all that gets us off to a good start if nothing else!
:salute:

Spoiler Blank New Scroll :

In case you want a blank version of the new scroll... here it is...
NewScroll_Blank.jpg

Very impressive scrolls!!

Regarding the additional note, should we have something about we will settle north as long as they promise to raze the Keep so we can get our own silks?

Also, although this wasn't discussed before, I'm wondering if we want something in the treaty about neither side extending their peace with KISS without giving some sort of warning. As long as Dnuts and KISS don't have an active peace deal, I really doubt KISS will attack us.

Glad you like the scrolls!

Its not my department - but I wouldn't try to haggle with the Nutters over the location of our city too much. We're pretty clearly in what can reasonably be considered "their land."

At the most, I'd just ask if they'd consider giving us 20 turns of free silks (like we were going to do for them) as a token of goodwill for us being so agreeable about the whole thing.

But that's just my 2 cents.

Edit: I'm not sure we really need to write the "notify the other team about peace with KISS" thing into the treaty - Nuts have been open with us about that so far anyway - and I worry about coming off as too controlling.

Good point on the warning.

I understand reluctance to haggle about a city location, but it sounds like you are just giving up silks entirely. They can settle the south location and then take the Keep - why are we over there?

yeah - I totally see your point - I'm just more worried about messing up our deal than I am about the silks.
But I suppose the Nuts don't want to lose the deal either. It's a tough call - gald it's not my decision! :goodjob:

Quick note, as it's late for me. I'd like to suggest an edit to item 2.7 in the scrolls... can't copy and paste, unfortunately:they will give first preference to the other team in future tech proposals, at least through the rest of the Middle Ages.

No need to include the clause at least. Drop it, and the line reads more forcefully.

As for the settler, I think a fait accompli is easier to handle than a negotiation. If our settler is in position, I think we should SETTLE. We send a note, detailing how they are wiser to settler in the northern position, and we hope that our actions aren't getting too much in their way, etc.... My 2 cents.

This just in from the Nuts to our gmail:
could you investigate TNT's silk city for us? We will add the gold it costs in on our deal. I see you are beating us to the city anyways. Mezzanote I think is its name.
well - it looks like they're not going to over-react to our settling on the silks. Still, I think we should strike a conciliatory tone. Maybe free silks plus a free investigation of TNT's city?

EDIT: err... we don't actually have an embassy with TNT... and I doubt we want to spend the money to get one with a soon to be gone people. Maybe we could trick TNT into just telling us what's in there?

TNT are doomed, so lets just "politely ask" how large their garrason is inside Mezza Keep is. We can tell them, "We heard a Nutters army is headed that way, and we need to tell them if they have a chance to defend. We dont know the details of the army, but we do know it will be there soon. If you tell us your garrison, we can make a decision whether you are likely to hold the city, and base our builds in our city accordingly."

Well, hmm. I avoided playing last night hoping the situation would be clearer by morning, but it's at least as muddled as before. Mr. Foreign Minister, do you want to weigh in here? Should we settle now, and you will handle the consequences, or do you want to speak to the Nuts first?

This was sent to g-mail

Titled ... could you investigate TNT's silk city for us?
We will add the gold it costs in on our deal. I see you are beating us to the city anyways. Mezzanote I think is its name.

I would like to send something like this.

Greeting Doughnutians

Firstly can I just say that I was waiting for a more opportune moment to discuss the Mezza Keep scenario, I decided to ignore the urgings of some of the team to inform you earlier and take full responsibility for any stree on your end. Therefore I apologize for the unexpected shock, it was not meant to be so and in my defence, the rapid turn cycle rate caught me with my proverbial pants down around my ankles

Our intention is to settle on the spot south of the mountain, this plan has been in place for some time now and was implimented well prior to our forging an alliance. Our settling will secure a luxury for us and also prevent KISS gaining. We will then found a coastal city nearby and connect with roads. We would automatically swap Silk for Gems with you, this will save you the time and resources to found your own city in the unproductive jungle and to cut your own roads.

There is a source of Saltpeter on that mountain NW of Mezza which we would also like to secure from KISS which will be a backup for us both incase our one of our own supply is unexpectedly cut. We assume that you have control of your own supply in the east. What are your thoughts on this? If you have concerns about this, please discuss.

Regarding the actual city, we are taking a 'Swiss' stance, hope it is not too 'cheesy for you', and do not see the necessity to enter in a needless war especially since you and KISS are working well to achieve TNT's extinction as it is. This non-aggression stance has served us well and therefore depending on TNT's response we will inform TNT of our intentions to remain neutral. If however TNT respond in an arrogant manner, we will gladly send you all the intelligence we can on this outpost which has remained far from the war and a need to be reinforced with defenders that were required on the various fronts. ;)

There is also a cost element to consider in city investigation, embassy will cost 79 gold and then there is the added cost of peeking.

You will receive an official treaty document very soon.

Again I apologize for the shock and will be happy to discuss any concerns you may have about our plan.

One other thing we would like to open for discussion is to form an agreement so that if either of us are attacked that the other will also enter into the fray against KISS.

Sincerely

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister

Foreign Department say ... Settle Settle Settle
I feel confident that Nuts will see it beneficial for us both ;)

I don't see any reason not to build an embassy and investigate the town for DNuts if they will pay for both. We want good relations with Dnuts and really don't care much about our relations with TNT anymore.

Although I hesitate to ask this :p... do you have a suggestion for our town's name, Feaurius?

Have thrown some ideas at gen_W in a previous chat

Thinking of a pyrotechnical theme .. here is a list which came to mind ;)
> Short Fuse
> Fizzer
> Quick Match ... used to ignite muliple effects or extend a fuse
> Dud Charge ... an effect that fails to ignite
> Hang Fire ... an effect that smolders and ignites late (very dangerous)
> Misfire ... an effect that ignites to early or not at all (very dangerous)
> Breach Burst ... an effect that explodes in the mortar tube (very dangerous)

or ... Silken Glove

Oh and I had to recover ... you you you m .. m .. me .. mean that you are saying ... establish <gasp> an Em ... Emb ... Embassy :wow:

Regrding Embassy .... from the KISS one it seems that Nuts have a formal Military Alliance to quwash TNT ... see they do come in handy :smug:

EDIT ... I do however feel that establishing an embassy with TNT at this stage is a waste of gold ... cost 79 gold. I have added this to the proposed message to Nuts.
