Perhaps later tonight, Monday or Tuesday daytime would work. I will be signed in from now until then. Could you please move your knight that is blocking our road north?

Killer

I may not be around for it (but if I am I want to be in a whisper room) ... perhaps Gen_W can correspond directly with killer and post the time decided. My reason to ask Gen_W to take over if I am not around is that he has a history and is also a yank which will ease timezone clashes. :salute:

However I am now confused as to what team wants ... what our goals are ... I'm starting to think I may have misinterpreted things and perhaps led the team into a scenario that we actually do not want.

1. Prior to Nut's rapid west coast settlement (last turn) we were gearing up (perhaps in a too leasurely pace) to settle on the coast and link up a luxury city we managed to superbly beat Nuts to.
... seemed logical and sound, we secure (and indicate an understanding to share with Nuts and not KISS) initially Silk which was later adapted to Saltpeter as well.

2. Then Nut's settle and change things :(
... we come up initially with a Plan B which involves 2 additional towns and the coastal city securing Saltpeter, which was a good reaction :)
... message sent to Nuts to discuss this with them.

3. Suddenly it seems that we are not only prepared to salvage our opening gambit, but to basically cancel all claim.
... I honestly think that Eureka Stockade by itself is virtually useless to us.

 So why bother chatting at all !!!

We can basically just ignore what Nut's are doing (unchecked, they will very quickly become a real threat) and let them surround Eurika Stockade and hope that our alliance outlasts the KISS threat. That way we stay focused only on our continent and hope that our home defences hold out while we war with KISS. Also hope that Nuts do not start asking for too outrageous demands for their continued support and cease trading too much with KISS.

I strongly disagree with members who think that us giving up on our initial plan to link our own source of Silk and the other Saltpeter will make us more secure against Nuts not joining with KISS are IMO sadly mistaken. So the only relivant thing is the costs associated with the plan again IMO negligible to the benefits.

So initially my priority to initiate a chat was to not lose our initiative for already establishing a prescence on Battle Isle ... I wanted to get a guarentee that we can settle the 2 additional cities ... and find out what the story is with the Gems.

Now I'm not sure, because if we do get this sorted how swiftly can we achieve this and what priority will it be given.

I guess the only positive we can still achieve from the chat is asking what the Gem story is.

So I would like the team (not on this thread) to reach a conclusion to what our strategy is that way I'll know what to achieve diplomatically :D

So - no backstab- they just didn't want to talk about the Saltpeter, because they knew it was going to be a moot point anyway.

Thankfully, we can still switch our settler, and we haven't really lost anything.

I don't share your optimism ... they have another city where Saltpeter is ... we have no space to build a coastal city !!! ... Mezza Keep is useless !!! ... they didn't even offer a discussion !!! ... Still NO Gems !!!!

Title ... Sparkly Things
Hi Nuts

General_W will organise a time for the chat.

We have moved the Knight away from the Incense Settler.

We have noticed that you have a spare Gems, but are still waiting for the supply you promised for peaking at Mezza Keep, will it be shipped next turn as we can really use them at the moment?

Sincerely

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister

Sent to g-mail and Robi PM

I added the line about us really needing Gems as a bit of misinformation.

Reply from killer via e-mail

Gems have been sent, as was 720 gold for chemistry last turn. We will send you the gold for banking in 3 turns.

sent to g-mail
Gold was, but no Gems.

decided to be as abrupt and to the point as he is.

A chat with Killercane (CaseyJ) to try to answer some of Fe's fears…
I think it went really well.

Josh says:
Hey - this is General_W from MIA - if you've got a few free moments this morning, I'd like about 10 mins of your time for MTDG talk
casey j says:
sure
casey j says:
hows the work going
Josh says:
pretty good. I got really sunburned over the weekend (out fishing with my wife's Father) - so my dress clothes are a little painful <wince> - how about you?
casey j says:
good good, same old same old really
casey j says:
whats the topic for discussion

Settlement Problems:
Josh says:
Our silks town - and your rapid settling all around us - threw some of our plans into disarray
casey j says:
we already had the settlers on the way
Josh says:
Ok – you did get them like 2 turns after we settled! We just have a couple questions about how to hand the trade network and if we want to move units in and out of our town.
Josh says:
(since our agreement doesn't allow us units in your territory without permission)

We can Get a Quick Trade Network…
casey j says:
just connect to our network, SE of your town and you will have the silks
Josh says:
you'll have a road to that spot soon?
casey j says:
we have a road to the marsh there
Josh says:
ok - that's cool. should be easy
casey j says:
you know the one i mean?
Josh says:
I think so.
casey j says:
it shouldnt be but a few worker turns and they will be connected
Josh says:
great. That's good news.
Josh says:
casey j says:
let me pull it up and i will tell you how many worker turns
casey j says:
i have the picture
Josh says:
ok
casey j says:
if you road the NE silk from Eureka stockade, and the jungle tile E, we have only to do a marsh tile and a grass tile to connect mauch chunk so it should be that easy
Josh says:
ok - I know my team will appreciate it if that trade network is set up quickly (we won't have our own worker there for a few turns yet)

And they are ok with us moving military through their land…
Josh says:
now - we'd also like to maybe get our Knight back home and possibly put a hoplite or two in our town instead. Any issues with us moving through your land to get to our boats.
casey j says:
no issue, just move him on through
casey j says:
you want an rop?
Josh says:
and I'll ask about the ROP... that's really not my department.
casey j says:
or just move him normally that is fine
Josh says:
Thanks - I apprecaite that, and I'm sure the team will also.
casey j says:
no problem

And they have sent the gems…
Josh says:
just confirming - your note was a little vague - were you saying that you sent gems this turn?
casey j says:
yes they are sent
Josh says:
ok - perfect. That's how I read the note
casey j says:
is that it for business?
Josh says:
I think so - thanks for chatting!
casey j says:
i have to run
casey j says:
you too
Josh says:
have a good Monday sir
casey j says:
cheers

So there – Everything appears to be going very well with the Nutters.
I for one am totally satisfied.

Rather than be upset that we got hemmed in, we should be happy we got the silks 1 or 2 turns before the Nuts had the whole area locked up anyway! I, for one, think the Dnuts have handled us thwarting their settlement plan on their land very well – and much better than I would be handling it if the situation was reversed.

Nuts are being very agreeable and flexible with letting us move military and helping us hook up our silks faster than we would have been able to on our own!

Good news on the silks/gems and the free passage. I'm still a bit curious/unhappy about why they felt the need to place Mauch Chunk so close and if they are planning on putting culture there, but I guess we will find out eventually...

Can you settle on swampland?

That wouldn't fully explain the location of Mauch Chunk - but it would offer a partial explination at least.

You cannot settle on marsh (you have to clear it first), but there are plenty of jungle tiles (1 NE of where they settled, for example) that had a full 9 tiles.

Request Knight in Eureka Stockade to move N to see this bloody road Nuts claim is there. (I bet another 'misunderstanding')

They didn't claim a road was there . They claimed a road will be to the SE (it is not there yet).

i wrote that from the chat you relayed to whisper room :p

i've cooled down :rolleyes; ... but still on simmer ... watch them like a hawk and think a few turns ahead :mishief:

Josh says:

Doesn't explain why we are being smothered ... sounds just like bibble babble to my trained (I have a master's degree in quicktalk ) ears ;)

Oh and just for our records killer's reply
Gems have been sent this turn i meant ;)

he be a clever sly dog that one :hatsoff:

:bump:

Fe seems to be a little confused… and upset… over the road issue with the Dnuts. (Nothing but love for you Mate... just trying to help :) )
Here are the 2 locations Killercane mentioned as possible connections for us to their trade network.

Option A (shown in Red on my map)
casey j says:
just connect to our network, SE of your town and you will have the silks
Josh says:
you'll have a road to that spot soon?
casey j says:
we have a road to the marsh there

Option B (shown in Blue on my map)

It doesn’t matter which we do, that I can see – but we probably want to let the Nutters know where we’re going to send our worker, so they can be sure to get their workers cracking on the same location.

Also - we have an MDI next to the undefended town of Tiao. It might be worth mentioning that to them before they get the save. They approved it, but the additional courtesy may be appreciated.

No urgency, but the next time someone chats with them, we might want to find out if they have thought about extending their peace with KISS. We should try to talk them out of it if we can. Why shouldn't they sign peace with KISS (from their perspective)?

1. MIA will not sign another long-term peace deal with KISS. As long as MIA and KISS do not have a long-term peace deal, Dnuts have nothing to fear from KISS.

2. When the eventual MIA/KISS war comes, DNuts may want the option of taking a KISS town or 3 on their continent - they don't want their hands tied by an unnecessary peace deal.

For the sake of Clarity, I believe that General_W has confused his colors in the post above :)

As for the DNUT/KISS peace prevention proposal, Chamnix has stated a couple of important points that we need DNUT to understand. I'm sure there are other points as well, so we should all come up with reasons for DNUTs to refrain from extending their peace with KISS.

I have Aim installed on my computer now but unfortunately i've had to do a lot of overtime at work this week (which is where i am now) so i haven't been able to catch you onine the short amount of time i've been able to get on, but i trust that communication is stil flowing (or trickling at least) between our 2 nations. I hope all is we with you and we can catch up for a chat soon

Shame Mister Domestic Minister :p You are way too trusting :smug:

Actually it is important to findout how quickly Nuts will be linking these new cities to their core, they have only just recently started producing workers and I for one can think of many reasons for Nuts to go slow on linking them or building a harbour ... the good news is that Rob is back  and that communication can flow quicker.

When we build the worker, it will take another 9 turns min to connect the silks, and connect to their trade network.

I'm guessing fe is still annoyed that meleager stabbed him good in the team PBEM.

Another reason why we don't need considerable defenses in Eureka - we are dependent on Dnut's trade network to have the silks anyway. If they want to deprive us of the use of the silks, they can cut the connection or take the town with the same effect.

Im not worried about Nuts, but KISS. They still have many units on Battle Island, and if they are at war with us, they will definately want to destroy our only suplly of Silk.

Title ... Silk Settling
Robi_D
Foreign Minister for Doughnuts.

Robi I really need to talk to you ASAP ... I am concerned about the settler you have moved onto a Silk resource, if it founds a city on that spot it will needlessly impact on our border in Eureka Stockade. If indeed that is your settling, I am then requesting that you outline the motivation considering that our city's usefulness is virtually already controlled by your teams goodwill.

I have asked that the Banking trade be held up until I receive an answer.

Also I would also like to know when you will be finished researching Metallurgy.

Either chat or PM me back ... we will hold the save for as long as possible without asking for an extension.

Sincerely

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister.

I am not at all comfortable withholding Banking. We agreed to send it, and we should. We have no agreement regarding settling. Their potential settlement is annoying, but I don't think we should act as if we will be breaking our agreement when they have done no wrong.
