Didn't see a topic about it except one over a year old, figured I'd make a new one.

Coming out in a little over a week, who's looking forward to this?I haven't followed it in a while but looking around about it lately it looks awesome. I saw a review said it's a bit short and linear which sounds worrying but I still want it. Just trying to decide which version to get. I haven't bought a game new full price in a while so I figured I could get just one this year.

I am sure it will be an awesome game and the reviews have been very euphoric, but Dragon Age has become a rant trigger for me.
I was looking forward to this game from the day it was announced five or six years ago, and the PC version was basically finished over half a year ago and was supposed to come out in march 09 which was perfect, just after my exams.
Thanks to those capitalist pigs at EA the PC version was delayed until they finished the console versions to publish it on all systems simultaniously (of course no one thought about delaying Mass Effect for X-Box until the PC verson was finished, damn console fixation).
Now the release is in the middle of the semester and I will beware of this time vampire until either christmas break december 20th or better march '10 after my exams and deadline my paper are over.
Then we have the DLC on release day and the different versions with exclusive items. I am a little reluctant to pay full price for a game when it's basically already a year old and I feel I'm missing out on content.
So if I buy it next week I won't have really time to play it, if I buy it when I have time I will feel ripped off and I won't have time for Mass Effect 2:sad:, if I buy some future complete edition with all DLC and bonus stuff I'll have an even bigger time problem because of Starcraft 2 :crazyeye:.

I hate this game...

The exclusive items, actually, look good to me, because:
A) I'm not going to miss them if I don't get them.
B) They aren't overpowering (afaik).
C) There will probably be better items you can find as nice loots.

I havn't paid attention to the game though, it isn't going anywhere and will be there in a year or so anyways. hopefully with more content of actual mods or worthwhile expansions and not yet more god damned overpriced DLC. And what the hell is with release day DLC? Announcing DLC before the game is EVEN RELEASED makes me want to ROAST YOU ON A SPIT OVER A FIRE LIKE THE CAPITALIST PIG YOU ARE.

It's a Bioware game. They haven't made anything worth playing in the past 8 years

Neverwinter Nights was alright, KotOR was cool but not exactly an amazing game, but I haven't played anything made since by them. Jade Empire looked good but I heard it's no so great, Mass Effect was the opposite, didn't interest me but apparently it's supposed to be good.

And the DLC kinda annoys me too but well, it's just them offering an extra quest for the collectors edition, and then putting it up for sale for others to get if they want. And about the items I thought it was just preorder plus collectors edition stuff but apparently ever source for the game gets a different bonus item for preorder. Though like you said, none are anything major to really matter what you get or even if you get it right away. It is kind of annoying the best sources for it(impulse and gamersgate) don't get a bonus item but whatever.

Well, I haven't followed it so I don't care, plus I can't think of any new games out recently or coming out that interest me as mush, so this should be it. Though I have the same issue of school, but I doubt if I waited til Christmas break it'd be any cheaper.

I have it on preorder.

KotoR, NWN, Mass Effect are all great titles. Jade Empire is lame, unfortunately.

Mass Effect was fun for a few hours but really the combat is rubbish and as a whole, the game just doesn't have the appeal. Dragon Age could be good, I've read an article or two on RockPaperShotgun and it certainly has potential. Will wait until I know more.

One of the DLC's comes with the game as long as you don't buy it secondhand

Yeah, I'm looking forward to DA. Like pretty much everything Bioware have done (barring NWN's god-awful OC), so I've high hopes for this, particularly given the reviews.

Admittedly, the advertising has kinda worried me a little. It's all "Look how 'mature' we are! We have blood and sex and Marylin Manson!!!!!!". Still, I'm guessing it's more to entice people who wouldn't usually be interested in this kinda game, so...

Wouldn't say JE is a classic, but IMO it's not lame by any stretch of the imagination. It had flaws, but overall, it was a fun game. Seeing as it's out on budget now, it's worth picking up if you haven't played it.

Playing the game. Now i'm addicted. Thanks alot bioware.

Cracked and bought the game in town yesterday. Only had a couple of hours on it playing the human warrior intro story, took a while to grasp what I was doing. Seems like it has a lot of potential - I really like programming your AI followers. Some things I realised yesterday:

# You always have to control the character you have selected. Your elaborate tactics web for them won't take effect unless you embody a different party member.

# Unlike in Mass Effect, you never actually seem to speak...?

# This is very much more a dice rolls and tactics game than an 'action-RPG'. There is no first person view.

# IMPORTANT: for me at least, patching to 1.01a broke the game. On the desktop splash screen, clicking 'Play' didn't do anything. If this happens to you either reinstall and don't patch, or download the x86 version of this C++ Service Pack. I eventually found this fix by searching forums but it was pretty frustrating. There seem to be a range of other crashes etc but so far I haven't found any.

Think I'm going to start again today now I am slightly more aware of what to do, and can make a better character. Will probably play an elf rogue.

Dragon Age is the only force that is keeping me beyond my bed time. I have to work tomorrow!

Event though the PC version was delayed, during that time more content was added in. I read over 100 quest where added into the game during the extra time they had.

I've had someone approach me about a quest, only to find that you need to get downloadable content to go ahead with it. Slightly annoying but it was cleverly integrated at least. The dialogue choice to begin the quest was something like:

(Download premium content) Sounds interesting, give me a minute.

Gah! A word of advice: loot corpses first, complete plot objectives second. Otherwise like me you might find a significant amount of nice bounty just disappears when a cutscene begins and you are whisked halfway across the empire. Blast.
