Dunkirk 2 --a new beginning

So does this mean we need to look at a replacement?

That decision would be up to RC as it is his game, but it is starting to look as if we shall have to ... Aeon seems to be posting in other threads but hasn't posted here in some time.

I will send an email to Aeon and ask if he needs a temporary or permanent replacement. I hope that we can get this thing rolling again. If necessary, I do have an admin password (I think).

Aeon has told me that he lost his internet connection. He has to write me from a friend's computer. I will look for a replacement. I have one person in mind, if that does not work, I will post or take his position...(I realize that playing two powers could be strange, but this is still a beta-test; besides, with my relapse, I will probably screw up anyways  )

Ok, I have a replacement player for Aeon. Please send the save to me and I will forward it. I will give you the information on his email and such when I can.

For the moment, I played the June turn for the Allied Minor Powers. Chris is having the strangest error message ever! It claims that his pediaicons file does not have TECH_Airborne_Warfare. The strange part is, that it does have it. I even sent him my pediaicons file.

I can play the game, but he can not. Yet he can play any version of the game if HE starts it...

Does anybody have an idea why this would happen?

:crazyeye: :crazyeye:

Oh...almost forgot... no casualties, just some underground activities from the three resistance forces :D

The only obvious possible cause would be if he were using a different C3C patch, ie 1.15.

Has he possibly modded his version of C3C in any way ? Sometimes a mod will change things which will cause conflict when trying to open a file created on a computer which wasn't modded in the same way, but which would still allow him to open and start the scenario himself.

Get him to start a PBEM file and send it to ALL of the rest of us as a save to see if any of us has any strange results trying to open it ... this may also point to the reason why he cannot open our file.

Actually, we finally figured it out. He has CivIII Complete (or whatever it's called). He put the files into his scenario folder instead of his Conquests\Scenario folder. That is why he could play the games that he started (since the map file was in the same folder as the pediaicons reference).

He is all set to play the game starting this coming turn.

Two days since Rcoutme played Aeon's position and still the game doesn't seem to have moved at all .....

I have decided to give up on this one ... we started on the 28th January and got one turn played before we had to restart ... it was no secret that I was unhappy that I lost my starting advantage by restarting ... but restart we did on the 6th of February and since then I have played two turns, the last of which was one month ago

It has gotten to the point where I have lost interest in continuing ... I would be hard pressed to even tell you what my strategy was going to be, having had to wait so long on this.

Pity though - the scenario has much potential.

Turn send to France

Battle report:
Bombing in Northern Africa: All defenders in Tobruk are redlined. 4/4 tank takes a hit from an arty, but kills 1/2 rifle. Tank 1/4 -> promotes to 2/5. 4/4 tank kils 1/2 rifle, autorazes Tobruk and captured an arty.
Some tiles destroyed due to battleship fire in the Benghazi region.

Bombing of Sicilian wines: 1 fighter, 1 destroyer, 1 battleship miss. Other destroyer finally gets it.

Bombing of northern Germany; air bombardment irritatingly ineffective; IIRC only 2 or 3 tiles deroaded. Naval bombardment near Denmark: 2 tiles deroaded.

It's been so long I can't remember what I had planned previously either :)

Killed 1 Italian infantry near Milan, that is all. :D

PS: Dazz, I think it would be a shame if you do decide to quit as you clearly have a good grasp of the game and of tactics in general. I was looking forward to matching my newbie skills against all you vets :D

OK ... it seems I may have been a bit hasty deciding to leave.

My main reason for deciding to do so is I personally have never witnessed a game which stalled for a month and still successfully restarted, usually due to lost interest thanks to the delay but if the rest of the guys are still as keen as Rik and Gish then I guess it is worth hanging in there.

There were technical difficulties, but I'm guessing that the new guy would gladly play the game...

played and sent. weekend was long, but good.

If you have a person leave in future, i would like to express my interest in a game such as this.....

While i hope that everyone continues, please do not hesitate to pm me if the need arises.

Regards

James I
