DVD Drive problem

Hi guys,

I have two DVD Drives in my computer, one is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D and the other one is NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A. They both read data from original DVDs/CDs, however if I insert a DVD that was burned (I tried only DVDs burned on other computers) then my drivers don't see them or read them as blank.

Those DVDs/CDs however are readable on other computers.

I got the latest possible driver for the pioneer (I'm experimenting with that one) but have no luck. In fact those drives could see the burned DVDs/CDs a couple of months ago.

I also found a RAID Controller in my Device Manager, though I have no clue what it does.

Any ides would be appreciated,

Tomasz

Come on guys, there must be someone out there who knows the answer to this problem.

Is it only blank DVDs that have the problem, or all burned DVDs? Are you positive that the blank disks aren't recognized at all (can't burn to them with Nero or etc), or has autoplay just been disabled so you aren't getting the popup asking what to do with the blank disk?

First of all, those are not blank DVDs , they are full of data since I tried them on another computer. I tried burned DVDs and CDs from two different computers and they are not readable. Therfore I presume that all DVDs/CDs burned on computers other than mine are not readable.

As to the pop-ups, sometimes I get them as a blank DVD/CD as I said before. Sometimes I don't get the pop-up and when I try to enter the DVD via My computer, it says that it could not open the DVD since the files are either corrupted or are in the wrong format (they are all in avi - which is ok for my computer)

This is only a quess, your problems could be something else too. The securom DVDs mess the calibration of the laser in long term use. My friend has a drive that is almost dead, it burns DVDs/CDs perfectly, but they're only readable in that drive. Other drives read 'em as empty. I've got 2 drives broken by SR already, they hardly read any CDs/DVDs anymore.

Is there anyway to re-calibrate the DVD drive to its factory status?

There's usually screws for adjusting the laser position inside the drive, but there's very little documentation for home users on this subject. Some people have succeeded in re-adjusting their drives, but it's mostly trial and error and may end in breaking the drive.

I'm not aware if there's any companies that do this though..
