EA/Maxis censoring & threatening customers!

Yeah, I was just about to post that.

Edit:

Wait, are you The space oddity? The guy that has that awesome blog?

Guys, hold your horses, the threat you're talking about was not made by Maxis or EA at all. It's a very sad mistake by one of the volunteer SporeMasters. :(

It seemed unlikely that the company would make such a bald-faced threat. It would've been a bone-headed move.

whats secuROM and DRM

its anti pirating software, companies add it into your computer to help protect against theft, but its ultimately ALWAYS futile, hackers will crack the code and devise work arounds, ultimately the anti pirating software does nothing but sit around on the computers of every fool enough to be honest and install the game normally, so it sucks your ram and monitors your computer like malicious software, and pirates get to play without these constraints.

also it keeps you from selling it at a later date because your required to activate it online to play.

and people are threatening eachother about this?
i heard people are getting banned from spore and they have to buy it again
but thats illegal right, its like theft

Well, because of EA's end user license agreements that everyone has to accept to play, it's technically legal.

I didn't say I agreed with it, I just said that EA's actions are technically legal- however, there is an ongoing court case against them because of their draconian DRM policies.
