Early Colonization Remake Articles and Screenshots

Sounds like a mod not a stand alone game...I wonder if they'll include the Charlotte cheat?

I truly hope it won't turn out to be just a Civ IV mod with modified rule set and graphics.

Those who have not played original Colonization probably should try out FreeCol (Forum). It's rather faithful fan remake of the original Colonization.

Hmm... I would assume it'd also be fairly easy then to carry over Civ4 SDK/python mods and modcomps into Colonization then.

I wondr if this game will perhaps include a more elaborate trading system than CIV4.

Judging by the Wikipedia entry for it, even the 1994 colonization had a more complex trading system than civ4, so I would imagine this one will too!

Totally agreed about the music; it may have been the best thing about the original DOS version of the game. I got the Windows version at one point, but never played it because it just wasn't the same without the original music. If I were designing this game, I'd ship it with updated, modern music, but have a little checkbox in the options somewhere to let you play with the original DOS music instead. It was amazing how well it flowed, changed moods depending on what was happening in the game, etc.

I totally agree. When a subforum of colonization be created, I think we should post a poll about manteining the original soundtrack (with enhanced music, of course). Hope Firaxis listen to us...

I believe Sid Meier and his development stuff. I am sure about this, we will hear updated versions of these musics in game :

• bird song
• bonny morn (bonny at morn)
• cornwall
• fiddler's dance
• fisher's hornpipe
• hole in the wall
• jine the cavalry
• little fiddle
• nightingale song
• old joe clark
• shady grove
• smoky tune

Glad to see the conversation about the music!

My friend and I are in the midst of a disagreement: I distinctly remember "Flop Eared Mule" being in Colonization, but he says it wasn't. It is not present in the windows version, but I played the original DOS version. Can anyone out there back me up on this?
