Its probably just horrible luck, but every time I try and play the D'Tesh I end up a long ways away from any neighbors, even playing on over-crowded maps, or near one of the few civilizations I don't want to fight. Can anyone offer any tips for how to expand as the D'Tesh when you can't engage in early warfare to gain slaves? Is that just a impossible scenario, or do I have to somehow get an army 30+ turns across barbarian lands just to get some slaves which then have to be carted back?

Best thing I've found to do, is farm barbs. Build a large scout force, position them where they can all do some good over the next few turns, and pop the worldspell. It will guarantee all successful combat to generate a slave. Then you use those slaves to build an even larger force, and trek across to the nearest civ.

Basically, you get lucky with barbs or you're screwed. The D'tesh are one of my personal favorites even so....
