I'm playing on Noble and have what I believe is a decent strategy balancing techs, expansion and military.

Even with all of that, just about every time I'm around 100 pts less than the AI leader, with the rest of the Civs around my score or well beneath me. There is always one civ that is just crushing us in score.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? I keep reading about people that are doubling there closest opponent by 0 BC on Noble.

As a builder, that seems reasonable. Maybe on Noble you should typically be ahead of everyone, but anyone who is doubling civ #2 by 0 BC is doing one of the following:

1) Rapid expansion through chopping
2) Early warfare and conquest

Early point totals can be skewed. Creative leaders will expand their city radius faster so they have more culture/land. People who spread out their cities will end up with higher score thou I can argue that that's not the best thing to do since I pack cities really tight. Also Im not sure how tech is scored. If it's scored mroe towards the amount of advances you researched, than a person researching all the lower teer techs vs soemone who focouses then backpeddles will have a higher score from tech.
