Earth 2014

Thanks for the log files. After reading through them, it seems that the error is being produced by a formatting problem in the update units section of my code. This error in turn is preventing the entire units xml file from loading, which keeps the game from accessing the new UUs, which messes up the UI in the set-up screen. The formatting problem does not show up on my machine, so I don't know why my code is problematic for you and not for me. It looks like it might just be a problem in the update for the Foreign Legion unit, so I am attaching a copy of the units xml file with that unit update commented out. Replace the file in .../MODS/Earth 2014 (v2)/XML/Units with the file I'm providing, fire up the game, and tell me if that fixes things. Hopefully it does.

I really appreciate your help, and the fact that you spend time on it.

The game now starts and I can choose whatever leader I want, wich is one issue solved.

Yet it seems that solving this issue created others. A problem with the city states I havn't encountered before, when I was testing as Obama.

The city states are gone. The territories and borders are here, I still have notifications telling me that this leader is now friend with this city states, but the cities are gone. At the place where they should be, there are just the tiles ( plain, desert, whatever ).

There seems to be a lot of errors in the logs (Lua seems to be the worst). Here they are. Sorry... :crazyeye:

( I've just tested as France and placed the units as sleep/alert )

I think I've figured out what is causing all these problems: you might not have the latest version of BNW (the patch released Fall 2013). That patch, among other things, added the landsknecht feature that I gave to the Foreign Legion and also added the city-state Wellington, which is the second one my code founds and where the new error occurs. I'll edit this post later with the version number of my copy of BNW so that you can compare.

Barbarian King is right. As he said the problem seems to (at least in my case) that the game version is still 1.0.3.18.
So I have taken the liberty of editing a few files in the mod to make it work. I have attached the changed files.

@Barbarian King - Hope you don't mind if I attach the edited files here. Basically, I have commented out the missing city states and beliefs (got the idea when the previous problem solved after you commented the missing units)

EDIT: there are still some issues with espionage and declare war popup, but I don't think they're going to affect the game play much.

So, I tried your "nofall patch" patch, and the game is now running fine, except for the names : every element of the gamei s like " XX_XXXX_XXX_MODERN_GERMANY " ( not always germany of course ) . Any way to fix this ?

I don't mind at all; if other people are unable to patch their game of Civ it'll be good for them to have this.

If a lot of the text is replaced by text of the form "TXT_KEY_WHATEVER", then that means that there was a serious error with one of the text xml files and it failed to load. This is usually caused by bad formatting or duplicated entries. If you post your log files (xml and Database logs are the only relevant ones in this instance) I might be able to find the problem.
 
OK, it looks like there was a duplicate entry in one of the text files. I don't know how that happened, since while such an entry does exist in the file I created (I accidentally created a text entry that already existed in the regular version of Civ5) I had commented it out so it shouldn't take effect (and doesn't for me). Here is a copy of that file with the offending entry entirely deleted. Extract the file to MODS/Earth 2014 (v 2)/XML/New Text and overwrite the previous file. That should fix it.

Last question, is it normal that the Spies menu is f*cked ? ( only one spy, and I can't do anything with it )
( Since the problem occured before, I doubt it would help to upload the logs again. In the logs I provided in my precedent post, there already was a problem with "EspionageOverview.lua" and the problem is in my new logs as well )

So, since you told me it was a problem with the version of my game, I have been looking for a way to update to the desired version. And tonight I've finally founded the way to do so.

Thanks a lot for your help. I appreciate it a lot and it's great to see that some modders are ready to help even if the problems are complex and not from their own work ( technically it's just that my game wasn't up to date ).

I've no doubt that all these files will be to use to some people.

Sorry, but I can't make a non-mod version of this without radically changing things I do not wish to change, so I have no plans to do this.

Edit: I've tried everything listed in this thread, however my spies are still unplayable and I can only see Panama city for my city states! Any ideas?

Just to make sure you didn't miss anything, did you make sure that your version of BNW is updated with the fall patch? I've seen that cause the problem with the city states that you mentioned. I haven't seen the spies problem, so if you could post your logs I'll take a look at them and see if I can find a solution.

It's updated with the latest patch; I cannot get a successful screen shot while in the game or I'd provide you some shots of the spy issue. However I've included my logs!

It looks like the log files you gave me don't have the information from the mod. I'm going to be lazy and copy the relevant instructions about logging from post #79 of this thread for your perusal.
