Earth 2014

Ukraine is in the news now, but N.Korea is in the news always. Kiev as a city state bullied and protected by Russia is more realistic solution.

Eventually I may make a third huge map with two new civs in the rotation slots (filled by Egypt/Nigeria on map 1 and Israel/North Korea on map 2), but that won't be happening for a little while. I'll also make a poll to see what two civs people want before I do that, and if Ukraine is chosen I'll definitely get in touch with you to help make it.

If anyone reading this wants to suggest civs, feel free to leave a comment in this thread. I'll be looking at this thread and the comments on Steam to see what is in high demand before making the poll.

okay i would really suggest you use a more realistic, massive earth map for the next build such as the one from gedemons* WWII because in this one europe is underwhelming and is missing some great points of conflict, i would also suggest since you have reached the civilization cap already i would just make Nigeria and South Africa as City States and instead keep Jerusalem, Egypt, Turkey all as actual Leaders and North Korea as well because what i always notice on repeated playthroughs is China rapidly takes over South korea without a North Korea, when their is nothing to balance them in that region, same thing with the middle east due to its crampt size and unbalance it quickly disenagrates so a full middle east [Turkey,Egypt,Israel,Iran ]as acting Civilizations are a must same goes for North Korea it should always be an independent civilization along with South Korea to balance that region, and if you are planning to put in a new civilization i dont really know who else you would need you have nailed just about every major Civilization if you do plan to pick a much bigger earth map next time, you shoul instead add more City States to the limit and just give them more then one city if that is possible really take a look at the RED WWII or TSL Earth map because borth are huge giant lots of space & in many aspects the best quality maps for a scenario like this, final comment if you do plan to make another civilization you should fill out Europe Maybe Spain or Italy goodluck many would love to play more of your scenarios

@civroma
I was simply saying that I might sometime in the future make another version of my huge map. I'm not planning on making an entirely new map, which takes a lot of work. Further, I'll not be making a giant map because, in addition to taking a while to create, my computer is not high end and so playing such a map would be really slow. I have no interest in creating a map that I'd never play. If anyone else really wants a giant map and makes one of their own accord, I'd include it in future updates of my mod.

EDIT: Never mind. Found it.

I just started up a game as the US. A little unexpectedly, France asked me to declare war on Brazil and the UK asked me to declare war on Argentina right at the start of the game. That was a surprise.

Later on, the denounce fest started and then some more sensible wars took place. South Korea and Russia declared war on North Korea at the same time, so they might have agreed on it together - but then Russia declared war on South Korea a few turns later. Japan also asked me to declare war on NK, so we did. Russia and Turkey both declared war on Germany and the UK, France, and Canada all declared war on Turkey.

One thing I noticed was that most civs were guarded towards me. Even those that shared my ideology. Even when there were nothing but green diplomatic modifiers (I proposed the ISS, which many of the civs liked). Any reason for this? Ironically, China and Russia, the two civs I expected to dislike America the most, were "neutral."

Great scenario thanks.

I just finished a game as the US on Deity level and won Diplomatic victory after 56 turns by building up City state allies. My strategy was to build up gold reserves and spend them on City states while also adopting Patronage.

I would like to see the Ukraine crisis included in any upgrade of this scenario. A possible solution to the number of Civs represented in the scenario would be to combine UK, France, Germany and Turkey as European Union with Warsaw, Rome and Madrid included. The Bosphorus Straits needs to be a sea lane (using pontoon bridge mod) to allow for naval action around Crimea and to enable the Russian Black sea fleet to get to the Mediteranean. The same goes for Panama and Suez to enable ships to traverse these tiles.

Russia should be given the Order ideology to align them with most of their BRICS partners. Ukraine should become a Civ with at least 2 Cities, Kiev and Sevastopol and its ideology should be Autocracy with less social policies. Alternatively it could remain as a City State but with the 2 above mentioned cities and be friends with US/EU and Russia. This can be achieved by removing the Russian city between Moscow and Kiev and removing Russia's Black sea city and replacing them with new cities elsewhere in Russia. This would allow for Russia to annex Sevastapol as its Black sea base. Either way Russia should have a Black sea fleet.

US, EU, Canada, Australasia, Japan and South Korea should all be allied and with embassies and open borders. Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa (BRICS) should all have embassies and open borders and good relations.

Obviously there are many other factors to be considered such as Middle East and South America but I'm just providing a brief outline for the current World scenario.

Keep up the great work. Cheers

@LoneRebel
I don't know why the other civs have such opinions towards you. The only things I set up that would affect their opinions were the ideologies and a few defensive pacts that represent NATO. I also set up open borders between some of the civs, but the map editor doesn't allow for embassies or other opinion modifiers.

@Pleiadian
Glad to hear that you're enjoying the scenario. That was quite a quick victory you achieved as the US. I'll address the issues you raised below.

I don't plan on adding any scripted events to this scenario, and I also don't want to conglomerate any nations. The EU is not unified enough to justified implementing it as a single civ, and currently they seem poised to move in the opposite direction of unity given the reinvigoration of nationalism in many of its member states. Russia has Autocracy to represent the consolidation of power that has been going on in recent years as well as to put them at odds with the west and with China. I know that Russia and China do often work together, but their cooperation strikes me more as one of situational convenience rather than true friendship, and there are historical issues that could potentially put them at odds, so I didn't want them to be aligned. As for alliances, I did give the NATO powers defensive pacts but I didn't want to set up too many entangling alliances to constrict the scenario. Many nations do have open borders with others from the start, but the map editor does not allow for embassies, and I was unable to figure out how to add them by lua, so it will be impossible to do this (even though I would like to).

I would really like to play this scenario, but I have a problem downloading it!
I am on a mac, so steam dl is a bit difficult, as it doesn't show up in any of the folders, and the other link is broken.

Would you consider uploading it in a different way, or could someone perhaps send it to me? It looks awesome!

I just checked the Gamefront link, and it's still working for me so I don't know why it's not working for you. I don't really want to upload it to a third site, but if anyone reading this wants to post the mod at yet another site they have my permission.

I managed to work it out, the problem was that I got a .civ5mod file through steam instead of a .modinfo file, so I just had to convert that.

Yeah, that happens sometimes with steam. I don't know why. Glad you got it working.

Hi ! The 2nd the link is definitely broken for me. Is the website down ?

( I watched a video of your map. It looks great, though I suggest you put a French city where French Guyana should be, since it's a big chunk of French territory and a strategically important point )

EDIT : Oookay, so apparently Gamefront downloading is banned in France ( but not in French Guyana, duh ? ). Awesome...
EDIT2 : No one stops a Lama. Nice map, thank you ! :)

So I finally got my hand on the mod ( via gamefront and by faking my presence in the US ) and guess what ? Problems. :(

I have every DLC required ( including the Korea one ) , and more. I have only this mod installed. I checked the mod in the mod menu, chose HUGE 2.
At this point I can choose from every different leader in the Advanced menu. But in the normal one I can't. There's only Abdallah ( Saudi Arabia ).
Obviously if I launch the game now it crashes, since I haven't checked "load the scenario".

Once I've checked the "Load Scenario" thing, the leader switched to Obama. If I stay this way, I can play the game normally. If I click on the leader list, I can choose Abdallah only. ( The Civ bonus and pictures are not the vanilla one but the one you created ). I can also, I believe, play as Abdallah.

Even more disturbing, if I choose in game to talk to a civilization I couldn't pick, I can talk to the leader and everything works fine.

Can you please help me fix this ?

I got the exact same issue after downloading the mod and trying to play yesterday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On a side note, is there any way to choose the victory conditions. I usually like to play with only domination enabled.

This error you two are getting, where you can only select a few of the available leaders, usually occurs when less than two uniques have been assigned to a civ. The fact that LostLama only encounters this error on some of the maps is puzzling, as it should occur on all of them if there is a problem with the uniques. Could you go look at the set-up screen in which the error is occurring and report back to me which uniques are showing up for the last civ listed? Also, what languages are you both playing in?

@dp_stlz
Sorry, but since it is a scenario I don't think there's a way to allow the user to customize the victory conditions. If I learn otherwise, I will see about implementing such a feature.

I'm sorry, what ? I didn't say that, do I ?
The error is the same on every of the mod's map, it just only occurs when I'm playing the mod.

I'm playing in English.

Edit : It's bed time in Europe. Have a good night.

I misread your original post. Reading it again I see where you made the distinction between the regular selection screen and the advanced selection screen. From the screenshots (thanks for taking them) it looks like none of the unique units are showing up, which would explain why the civ selection ui is bugging out. It also looks like there is a problem with the lua religion script, since I noticed not all of the cities have religions like they should. I don't know why the code isn't working for you. I would advise you to reinstall, and since you had such a hard time downloading in the first place I'm going to attach the mod (sans art) to this post. Extract the files to the mod folder (path should be something like Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS/Earth 2014 (v 2)) and allow your computer to overwrite all files. Hopefully that will fix things.

I've tried installing the "patch" ( no art ). Nothing changed at all. :confused:

By reinstalling, do you mean re installing the entire game ?

By reinstalling I just meant reinstall the mod, which you pretty much did (the file attached to my previous post had all of the code, the maps, and the mod file, it just didn't have any of the 2D art or 3D models). If you don't mind doing a little investigative work, I'd like to ask you to post the log files generated when you are running the mod. This thread by whoward explains how to enable logging, and the three file he mentioned (database, xml, and lua log files) might have information in them that could help me figure out the problem. Once you have logging enabled, simply load my mod, load up one of the scenarios, then quit the game and make a copy of the log files to post here. I'll read them and see if they can point me in the direction of a fix. One important note: copy/post the log files before you restart Civ5, as each time you restart the game it erases the log files and starts again.

Here, I've attached the logs you requested. ( logs.rar )

Here's what I've done :

Enable logging
Start CIV
Mods menu
Next ( was already checked )
Solo
Set up
Map : Huge 2
Load scenario
open the leader list
closed the leader list ( using Escape )
Back, back, back, back [...], exit.

EDIT : So I read the lua.log and apparently it's a problem with my Uniquebonuses.lua, so I just joined this file too.
