There are infinite possibilities but here's the two most likely scenarios.

1) We unleash Nuclear Armageddon and the Earth becomes a lifeless rock.
2) We become a space faring civilization with colonies on several other worlds.

I agree in theory. But regarding point 1), we don't have the capability to destroy the planet to that extent. If you look through the Earth's history, life has replenished itself from the direst of circumstances - asteroid impacts, climate change and other yet unknown phenomena - in which at times 99% of all life forms disappeared. Even if we made this our mission, we'll destroy ourselves first before we succeed.
