Why are you looking only at Czech GNP per cap PPP? It is not the only country in EE, is it? Why not take a gander at Hungry or Poland. At least average them. Cherry picking the highest in EE is not exactly legit. Perhaps you are taking my relayed comment about the EE too personally? Let's average them. The EE, averaged, has LESS THAN HALF of a western european nation's income PPP. I mis-spoke when I said Czech. I meant EE, as the original comment targeted.

Sure, I've done research in Kenya and been to Tanzania too. Some parts of Latvia are very ghetto, but not starving.

The EE consistantly fills the bottom slots of every European evaluation, especially Hungary and Poland. Czech doesn't make 'average' in any evaluation. The EE is consistantly poorer, less educated, and dirtier than western europe. You have the stats.

According to the Kyoto Protocol, EE countries are not even industrialized developed economies. They are 'Annex B: Economies in transition'. I wonder which (if any) have made it to officially industrial and developed, in the last 17 years. Or are they all still Annex B?

California/Washington is the Far West and I live in the Mid-West (Michigan), then the Atlantic coast can be the Near West. If Asia is already called the Far East and the Middle East is the Middle East, we can call Europe the Near East.

Maybe we can change the term from Central Europe to "the Heartland". You'll get more sympathy from normal red blooded Americans in "Flyover country".

Well, I disagree For me, poverty means a lack of the "Western consumer" lifestyle (if someone comes with a better term, I'll edit this). None of the Central European countries is poor, by any standards.
