Then again, if you lump the U.S. with the rest of the Americas, you will reach a similar conclusion about that region.
Point is that it doesn't make sense to lump a country like Romania or Bulgaria with the Czech Republic.. They are in different regions.. If you are going to lump them together, then lump all of Europe together.

My original statement was that EE was relatively poor, compared to western europe. This is because the title of the thread set the subject at EE. And I did not include all possible EE countries. Only the ones currently in the EU. If you want to include prospective EE countries that are not in the EU, the numbers could get really ugly. 10k per cap ppp is not pretty, but there is worse in the area.
Now, considering that my original statement was that EE is poor COMPARED to WE, is it not fair to compare countries (of the EU only, even - I think that is rather generous). To prove that this relative "poor" exists? I could probably get the figure down to around 5k by including non-EU countries, but I didn't do that. Cause I'm fair like that.
And yes, there are some areas of America that are poor compared to other areas. Just like EE is poor compared to WE.

On a per capita basis, yes. But that country is smaller than many american cities and we have populations as large as luxemburg that dwarf Luxemburg's per capita.
Things get pretty skewed when we are talking about the smallest nations on earth and trying to compare them to some of the largest.
Things tend to average out, though, when talking about regions and countries of similar population and area, as we were in regard to WE and EE. You didn't see my touting Luxemburg's numbers in contrast to Czech, did you? I looked at an average of ~30k for western, and ~14k for eastern (all EU countries - no cheap reductions of ppp by including non-EU EE). But if you really want to compare EE, in general - and not in respect to the EU, we can gather some numbers from non-EU EEs, and see if we can get to a wealth gap large enough for you to consider it significant.
Anyway, at an average of ~14k, EU EE nations are teetering on the relative poverty line for the EU.

just because they would be below the poverty line in the us doesnt mean they are in the chzech republic...

EE (in the old meaning) is not poor compared to anyone. It is less developed that WE (in the old meaning), put far from being poor even by WE standards.
Why? Do really poor people in say, Britain, have the same living standard as the middle class people here in the Czech Republic? No. They'd be poor by our standards too.
If we were poor compared to WE, we'd all be living like homeless people in London.

Ok, relative poverty does not really exist. It's just a term invented by wiki and has nothing to do with being poor (relatively).
And yes. Someone making 14k/year in the UK is pretty poor. Don't you think so? 14k/year is something around $6/hour, 40 hours/week (minimum wage?). According to "relative poverty", they are in it. And yes, someone making 14k/year in the US is pretty damn poor. Not only is that relative poverty in the US, it is almost below the poverty line. When your region averages the minimum wage in another, you are relatively poor. It means that 1/2 your population is not making minimum wage.

Relative poverty is pretty fair considering that I have consistantly maintained "relative to WE", don't you think?
And yea, I edit alot. I like to clarify my statements even after I submit reply. Tough. I'm not trying to decieve anyone or change my story, I'm trying to improve my clarity and add info if necessary. Anyone who has debated with me knows this. The idea that I edit nefariously is stupid.

I don't care how much green papers you have in your wallet, what matters is how you live. Do you have a house or apartment? How big? Do you have all the standard household appliances? What about a DVD player, HDTV or decend sound system? What car do you have? Can you afford a vacation in Spain?
These things are important to me. People in this country who are, according to you, "relatively poor compared to Western Europe or the US" have all this stuff. Their living standard is entirely comparable to the living standard of middle class people in the US, UK or France.
(I am not asking you, it's rhetorical question)
