Editor wish-list

Make certian abilities era-specific or other things:

1. Raze cities, only in ancient era (or optional if city is size 1 only)
2. Take slaves (workers) only in a certain era, and sacrifice them also in only one era.
3. It would be great if CIV4 also included an easy to learn 3d program so that it would be easy to learn how to make units... though I doubt it will happen
4. Much much more easy to add things, without the need to alter "one units32 file" one "resources" and one "buildings" file etc. You just add what you want and put the pictures and stuff in THAT particual folder. Would be much much easier to add stuff.

1. Have much more choises for units
2. You should be able to have "attack helicopters" and make them attack for instance tanks and get a bonus against them, but if there was an infantry unit with AA-ability there aswell, the helicopter got a problem
3. Make units have bonus against other units, you could specifie: for instance, pikeman should have a bonus % (defence) and perhaps 1 extra HP against certain horse units/mounted units but not modern horse units which use rifles etc.
4. The ability that units don't get's destroyed when they attack, if they represents an division in a scenario it woulden't be normal that a whole division gets destroyed, they loose a couple of HP and then retreats. Same goes with all other units aswell, if they in a scenario are to represent an army, regiment, division etc. See Hearts of Iron to know what I mean.
5. Units can be traded as they could back in CIV2, then you could sell tanks to a civ that does not have the resources themselves to make them etc.

6. Civil Wars: thats one of the feutures I miss the most. And with CIV3 I though firaxis had just taking this a step further from CIV2. I wish certain civs can split into certain new civs: for instance the Vikings = Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Faroe Island. Or there can be more "generic" name like "democratic republic of.." "free..." etc.
7. I wish civilizations could capitulate, especially in scenarios. But when an allied of the capitulated civ is taking over their cities again, that city might turn back to life...

THIS IS A VERY LONG THREAD, hope someone from Firaxis find time to read it though, and gives us an even better game by listening to the fans...

1. Oh and I wish to see the ability to have different animations for defending and attacking, or even defending when fortified. Just the ability. I know it is a line with "defend" in the ini files, but I have read that it doesn't work..
2. The ability to add more than 31 civs, just that you don't have to use them all at once.
3. This is perhaps a more gameplay wish: the ability to add more luxery, if you do now, it's a mess in the city screen..

The ability to add new terrain improvements (worker actions). This would be great (I don't know if it's been said yet though).

I would say rebellions that create new civs (that last the game, and can become your ally), but I realised that this was extremely complicated, and would be immposible to set for a scenario. So, I say this would be a little so complicated, and should not be added.

Otherwise, I pretty much agree with everything Risbinroch has said.

more barbarian levels like industrial basic and industrial advanced

Personally, I would agree based on the fact that the more civs the better but considering that Civ3 becomes increasingly sluggish once you pass 8 civs, going beyond 31 would make for some really slow gaming (which it already is BTW).

I wonder why this isn't an option already? I mean, you can add units and improvements (even governments!) so why not something as simple as tile improvements? (After all, players complained that Civ2 lacked tile improvement types.)
At first glance it seems as though all that's needed is an 'Add/Delete' feature. Although I've never bothered, I'm pretty sure the tile improvement images aren't hard-coded (since players may not want the 'Mining' image but a Facctory instead) but they may not have their own individual folders like units and improvements do (i.e. limited number of image slots in 1 file) --but that's a result of the decision not to allow new tile improvements.
The only reason I can think of is that tile improvement use is hard-coded into the AI (i.e. the AI is pre-set to use those tile improvements under certain conditions --it lacks the coding to 'adapt' to new types).
But if this is the case, how hard could it be for designers to beef up the AI so that it can use new tile improvement types just as it does improvements and units? Seems like a no-brainer to me...but I could be wrong. ;)

P.S. This is a neat thread but could people just post stuff that isn't already in the game? This thread is about changes to the Editor itself, not the alterable values (i.e. don't request changes that you can change yourself using the Editor).

Oh, I forgot one other thing and that is the special abilities hard coded into the improvements like Irrigation must be near water, Airbases hold air units, Fortresses heal units, etc. If the Editor were to include the option of adding new tile improvement types, the special abilities would have to be set through a list of flags that can be set for each new tile improvement type (just like units and improvements).

I think an option to install a more compact version of Civ III that uses less disk space would be great for people like me who have lousy computers. It would probably have to be something with less features, but at least it would work correctly on slower computers.

It would be a huge help if we could cut off unneeded parts of a map, add new squares in x or y direction or copy parts into the clipboard and re-import them as new map from there.

No need to die :)

I wish they would add it to the editor too, but in the meantime I have written a MapTweaker utility to do all this stuff (except re-import), get it in it's beta form here:

I would love to have the ability for workers to make units. Even if it's just th immobile ones. Also, immobile units should at least be able to use the defened AI check. Just 'cause you can't move doesn't mean you can't hold a pike. They're quadrapedric, not parapelegic,. I would really like to have the civil war option put back in. No civil wars is really ahistorical and unrealistic. Also, barbarians should be able to capture cities, enslave the populas, and produce units, instead of just plunder. The Visigoths captured Rome once, even though they lost it again, still I think it should be in there. Sorry if I repeated anything, I'm not going to go through 8 pages of post just to see what I shouldn't post, :D.

I would love to have the ability to make 'homegrown' units for sacrifice. By changing the term 'sacrifice' to 'complete great cultural project' (or such) makes for interesting possibilities. And then there's renaming culture to 'influence' or 'magic'... Unfortunatley, as it is, combat is essential for 'sacrifice'.

So, what i am asking for is perhaps a differentiated flag between 'sacrifice' and 'enslaved sacrifice only'.

i want a more in depth diplomacy editor... one where i can not only make locked alliances but temporary ones and change pplz moods towards others... i also want to able to make certain civs not go to war with anyone unless sumone attacks them

It would be really nice if there was a fleet unit similar to the army unit. I have tried creating and tweaking units in the editor to allow that but I cant seem get ships to load into a fleet. I think that it has something to do with the fact that you cant give it the army characteristic in the AI strategies, since that option is only under the land strategies.

Also, it would be nice if Leaders were able to arise out of victories by elite naval units. Another option is: Is it possible for a unit to safely travel/exist over land AND water? That may solve the problem of getting leaders out of naval victories.

However, there is still the problem of only being able to create one unit out of the Build Army command. This as well would need to be altered to be able to have an option as to which is being created, and army or a fleet.

So, maybe the solution would be: that the Army unit needs to be defined (as per whether it is land or sea) by what units occupy it. If this were able to be accomplished, and the leader be a naval and land unit, this would solve both of these dilemmas. Any thoughts (other than my lack of a clear statement in this posting, prior to the last paragraph)?

i LOVE the idea of a "naval army"!!!!!!

but shouldnt we have an "air army" as well?
u know, like a flight team or air squadron.
they can bomb more times in a given turn or have a higher rate of fire or something instead of having to click "bomb" 30 billion times per turn. that gets really old really fast.

they also need to make cruise missiles, planes, etc mor powerful!
NO TANK CAN SURVIVE A NUCLEAR ATTACK! good grief! u hav got to be kidding me when tanks and sometimes frickin INFANTRY can withstand aerial bombardments and cruise missiles! no unit currently in Civ3 could ever survive a fight with a cruise missile!

i hav changed this fluke myself but it should be in evryones origional game so that i do not have to host evry time i want to play a reasonable MP game....

love the "naval army" idea!

I just want one simple thing. The Ability To Make A Stack Of Units The Same Rank At The Click Of A Button! You don't know how time taking it is to go click on evry single unit in a stack just to make each the same rank ex. Elite :D I like to add big stacks of elite units to conquer my enemies and to sit here and click threw 25+ units to make them all elite is a bother to me. But very rewarding in the end. :D Just a one click way for me please.
