After fatal game drops in EM 1 through 4, EM5 managed a solid Domination victory with help from a great team. The curse is broken, and this game bases itself on that idea.
Civ: America. Land of superstition, horrorscopes*, UFOs**, the inventors of Voodoo***, etc. Rel/Exp for this game. Our mission is to leave superstitions and curses behind us as we journey to the stars.

If a city founded by us flips to someone else, it is regarded as a Cursed site. During the (shortest of) the next 100 years/5 turns, we may not move troops within its 9 square radius (so no recapturing), or demand it as part of a peace treaty.
If we capture or demand it after that period, it is cursed and may not build cultural improvements except a Temple.
If it flips back, the city is to be treated with respect (no whipping) and must concentrate on cultural improvements.

If a city founded by someone else flips to us, it is a sign of favor from the RNG. Name it RNG Shrine #, and no non-cultural building may be started there while a cultural improvement is available.
If one of these cities then flips back, it is so cursed that we fear its curse and may never own it again.
Exception: The civ owning the city is wiped out by another civ. In this case, read the rules for our-city-flips-to-someone-else.

Ancient Curse: If a Scout is slain by a Barb within 2 squares of a camp (if fog, assume a camp), we may not scout near that area again during the Ancient Age.

Medieval Curse: We must stay in Monarchy throughout the Middle Ages. The King is a holy person and can cleanse places, cast out demons, break curses etc etc. (no in-game King though.)

Industrial Curse: This new energy source known as "Coal" is causing pollution. Our superstitious people, however, believe that Pollution is dealt by foul spirits contained in it- why else would coal be black? As such, they try to keep it away from society.
Coal must be pillaged entirely on any turn where we discover a new tech. Feel free to have a worker gang ready to hook it up again, though :p .

Modern Age: The Age of Reason. Science has at last triumphed, and practitioners of the occult are restricted to their own homes and the asylums. No special rules.

Short: Cities flipping to us are to be revered. Cities flipping away are cursed. Spaceship victory is our target.
America, normal world, Civ3 1.29f.
Opponents: Babs, Egypt, Iros, Japan, Aztecs, India, Random.

I am hoping for feedback before I start, especially from the RBD crew. There are probably some loopholes and uncovered areas.

*In my book, basing your actions on horoscopes and basing your friends on that is in the same area as discriminating on race/age/sex etc.
**Funny. In old days, people saw trolls, werewolves, bogiemen, nisser, nøkken, draugen, these days they see UFOs. Coincidence?
***Voodoo never existed the way a lot of folks fear it. Vodun was a quasi-religion, then Hollywood took that, stretched it double thin, added B-movie horrors such as Zombies, and called it all Voodoo.

There should be another option on the poll that says, "I believe that it exists but it is dangerous to practice." Guess where I fall.
If this weren't on vanilla I would play. What difficulty is this?

Oops, can a moderator put in that option?
Difficulty is Emperor/Deity depending on what sort of feedback I get.

Finally a vanilla SG!!

I'm in if you'll let me play;)

Well, I'm not in any SGs anymore, so I'll join. :)

Either Deity or Emperor is fine depending on the experience level of the rest of the team.

Zwingli is playing... This I must see.
Room for a Emperor decently confident, Deity killed by player?
This sounds like a VERY interesting variant. I'll play, but just a heads up that I will be going away for a week sometime this month (I'll do a standard going-away post in all my SGs), so ill need to be skipped for that time.

Also- A Superstition of mine: Can I be last in the roster?

Also Also- IMHO, All but UFOs are Crap. Most UFO sitings are Crap, but there are some real ones. *X-Files Music*

Also Also Also- Zwingli: Great job on the Deity AW. Real great piece of work.

I would like to sign up for this SG :)

I would like to try out a Variant Game. Also I would also like to be placed last on the Rouster, Next to Stuck_as_a_mac.

Ack... I hate having to do this, but I am going to have to ask for a skip between now and July 14th.
Blame my family. It was their idea to go on vacation. For me, vacation would have been coding with a laptop in the middle of my back yard.
Again, I'm REALLY sorry I have to do this, but I need a skip between now and then.
Dont worry, I will come back.
SaaM

PS- Please dont drop me

I'm more of an monarch/emporer player, but I'm deffinatly willing to step up to deity since this seems to be a great crowd.

Erick I think this is enough ppl?? Are you planning on moving further with this?

This looks like fun, although I think I'd prefer to try it on emperor rather than Deity. :)

If there's a slot available then I'm game.

regards

Ted, your post reads Jul 04, yet my comp claims that the time is 21:24 on Jul 03.

Yes, you're in. I'll post a file early tomorrow. Let's clear the roster:

Erik Mesoy <- Soon to post start
Genghis Khan
Zwingli
Stuck_As_A_Mac <- on skip
CivGeneral
TedJackson.

My parents had dragged me away for a kayak trip, so I left this a little while. Doesn't matter, a nice team assembled while I was away.

Just another example of the peril of messing with voodoo :)

EM6- The Curse-Breakers
In the beginning was a river. The tribe of the Americans revered it, for it was holy. But one day, a man named Lincoln decided to move to another side of it. This caused much dissension among the tribe, and only a remnant remianed. The others had razed their dwellings, so Lincoln would have to build new ones.

3950 BC: Washington founded. Research begun on Alphabet. We hvae flood plains to the north.
3450: Lux tax up.
3400: Egyptians spotted.
3000: The new city of Washington is about to grow to size 3. When the general public see that Tyrant Erik has no plans for building more homes, only a Granary, they depose him, and ask Genghis Khan to be their ruler (at least for the next 850 years).
Watch our treasury. 3 scouts, a worker and a warrior.

Erik,

it might be worth sending team members a PM to let everyone know that the game's started.

Sorry guys! I couldn't log on all weekend because I was tied up with family.

Although this might be a blessing in disquise seeing as I'm more of a Monarch/Emporer player, & having me take the 2nd turn might be a disadvantage even Zwinlgli couldn't over come;)

I'm definatly in now though:D

3000 BC (0) No changes.

(1) Washington grows 2->3 and lux tax is raised.

(2-5) Mining and exploration

(6) Granery completed in Washington (science is lowered to compensate for the maintainance cost). Washington starts settler.

(7-10) Working and exploration.

American scouts have revealed that our land may be isolated with only the Egyptians as close company. Also, the people wisper that our local land is cursed and without sufficient food. The second city could be placed on the red or blue dot for an early river city with access to either food rich floodplains or shield producing bonus grassland.

The Save

I vote for the blue dot. We'd be in deep trouble if we allow egypt to back us into a corner & only expand west.

Just my 2cents, I'd love to hear some imput from some more exp. players.
