Emperor Cookbook - Napoleon!!

@kossin

Spoiler :
Yea I need to learn to draft better. I never drafted til I reached monarch. Warlords to prince I would win without it. So I never really learned/practiced it. I have replayed the turnset from the 1500 save 2 more times to learn how to draft better.

Spoiler :
:lol: That's not that bad. I don't think that I used the draft more than a couple times and not since I got BTS.

Sorry that I haven't "been able" to post a save the last couple of rounds. I've been busy and distracted by other games (thanks to my old computer, the first game I play when I load CIV is always slower than subsequent games, so sometimes I'll start a bogus game to load the real game but get distracted by the bogus game). Plus when I read the spoiler of Mao capping to JC and needing to bribe JC to prevent this from happening, I figured I got an unfair advantage. I did however play my shadow game to 1650AD.

To be fair DP this was commented before the round began. it was hardly an unfair advantage. Reading the spoiler that may have been an advantage in terms of ideas.

Have you tried cleaning the inside of the pc from dust? over heating can cause pc to slow down. Lack of ram too!! That being said how old is your pc?

Spoiler :

MY thinking this round was plainly just to build up forces for the invasion of JC and then Will. So, I teched biology first then went onto steel/railroad/steam and I JUST finished AL. I made a few trades with biology and picked up democracy/mil trad/mil sci/corp. Here is my tech picture. Currently researching facism for police state and para's.

Here is the stack getting ready to take on JC
Civ4ScreenShot0193.jpg

I set research at 0% to upgrade all rifleman to infantry. It takes 2800 gold and can make it in about 4 turns. The routes to all cities are railroaded. I have a globe theater going up in Grenoble b/c its about +15 food right now and will be an excellent drafting every turn city. It can be rush bought for 2k gold. And ironworks going up in Dijon b/c of iron + coal. That can be rush bought reasonably too if needed. Science rate can be run at 80% for 845 beakers a turn right now. Built heroic epic in beijing and has been producing miltary since along with shanghai. Currently in the about even with mansa for tech lead. JC still doesnt even have rifling. Will has rifles and has vassalized the Americans.

@Teelman
Spoiler :
Very interesting save, RR are definitely a big plus, it takes a while to move units on this donut-shaped continent. Not too convinced about AL (Corp obsoleted GLH) just yet as like you said JC doesn't have rifles - you could probably strike now. Very good research rate still even though you're running US for 9 towns (5 villages) vs Rep for an extra 54 beakers/turn from the current specs running. I like your save though :goodjob:

I've used a can of compressed air to clean it a few months ago. Sadly, this probably has to do with my computer being 7yrs old.

Okay finally played out the final 2 turns.

Spoiler :

Okay we need to finish this game. I see Kossin had used up nearly all the units on the last round. Low cost great science rate till we get there.

I switched civic for nationalism and slavery during GA. I concentrated on building HE in Shangai after Kremlim done. GT went in China's old capital Beijing. I whipped 6 theatres before GT. Top island seemed ideal for this. Once i had Democracy I switched to US civic. I did waste 3 turns changing civic later for US and Eman civ.

Whipped 3 units a turn while most cities built cannons. I ran tax at 100% for a while purchasing cannons. Around 1640ish I DOW on JC after bribing him into war with WVO. Useful decoy for me. Prolly should of gone for wvo first. oh well.

I mainly used cannons to crush defensive culture. Wasting riflemens on JC defences. Well Cannons take money to rebuild and rifles can be whipped 3 a turn!!! this is prolly why i have 34 cannons now. Will be useful in later wars.

I do need more ships to attack other continent.

Yeah 7 years is prolly due to age. Is that a pentium 4 inside? Ackkkk!

@teelman

Spoiler :
I like your save also. Only thing I see I don't like is you could've drafted more before AL. 2 pop draft infrantry instead of the 1 for rifles. Still your in pretty good shape against JC. WvO has AL already. But like your tech situation.

@gumbolt

Spoiler :
Like your save also. Like how you have multiple stacks going after JC to take cities faster. Also see you have a GE in beijing. Any idea's what to use him for?

As for the buffy mod. I am running BUG 4.0. Would this be compadable with buffy mod?

You have 22hrs left on this round to play. Closing it off on time this round. Need to finish this game.

Next round will be played to the finish!!

In the name of fun and possibly making myself look like a pompous goof, I'm going to post my writeup as well without having looked at the other write-ups. Enjoy. :-)

Spoiler :

Super SE Extravaganza

Paris Tribune Headlines: A stack of militant Workers have gotten in touch with their agrarian side, rapidly turning once beautiful villages and towns into FARMS. Except near Paris, where the Bureau-Cap police threatened to kill them if they tried it. The authorities are on the watch for them but, when interviewed, have simply shook their heads and said, "What can we do? It's a sign of the times. Old Napoleon adopted Representation, you know."

Using the maintenance-cleansing might of our State Property civic (Ah, Motherlandfrance!) we have grown mighty, and impressively high on our slider rating. Comrade Bonaparte has ensured us we are becoming more Awesome by the day, rapidly out-teching even the silly Mansa Musa, who appears to be going for a cultural victory. (Nya ha ha?) We run Merchants in bountiful amounts throughout the empire, keeping commerce from trade routes, the capital, and our new windmills suitably high.

But our tech does not take us into military arms! No, comrades, it brings us into the way of peace. The way of Broadway, and Eifel (viva la France!), and Cristo Redentor! With the Broadway already under construction in our Ironworks Soviet-Incorporated Megacity of Shanghair, we plan to hunker down behind our happiness and stand against the capitalist emancipated dogs who are running countries else where. We will laugh at them, and then beat them to Alpha Centauri! Unless they see fit to elect us world leader first.

France also grows increasingly ARTSY, as throughout the land Salons are completed. Art! Free art! It is making our research go vroom vroom!

Alas, comrades, it does not seem likely that we shall acquire the Statue of Liberty for ourselves, if indeed it has not already been completed--it slips this reporter's mind. But consider it a gift for our capitalist dog friends overseas. I seem to remember something like that happening in real history....

Though, comrades, I should warn you, it could well be that change is on our horizon. Although he has foregone infesting the motherland with Corporation tech until now, word has spread in the empire of a Great Merchant born recently from the Nationally Epic city of Orleans, and rumor has it that he is considering shaking up our government in the name of establishing something ... foreign? Sushi? Sushi is the word! What is sushi? It sounds ... delicious!

Feed the Napoleonic motherland! 1489 Beaker's Per Turn and a few tech monopolies is nothing to sneer at!

Signed, in affectionate buffoonery,

Citizen Lenoviet Motherfrancia

Save enclosed. Pics maybe to follow if you good boy. (Or good girl.)

@Lenowill
Spoiler :
Great teching! I took the liberty of MM'ing your cities a bit and can now run 100% @ 1657bpt with +4gpt - proof that it is useful ;)

You forgot the Whaling boats, which adds another +2 happy with the market. It's not huge but you do have some unhappiness.

I'm not sure UN victory is doable sadly. Our opponent is JC atm, which is good in a way, bad in another. It means we need everyone's vote beside Pacal because he has more pop than us (from F9 demographics). Zara has a -4 You traded with our worst enemies. Unless he starts forgetting it soon, it means we have to switch to Christianity (or Theocracy) to get him to the required diplo - which then means we lose the +5 Civic bonus from WvO (dropping us to +5). We can get another +2 for fair trade but it also requires him forgetting we declared war on Mao (-2 atm).

Space would be quite a hassle with the small production we have imho.

Immediate thought upon viewing the other saves:

Spoiler :
Gah! You're all a bunch of war-hawks! :P

Edit @Koss:

Spoiler :
Can you post the MM'd save so I can compare it to the one I posted?

It isn't so much that I don't understand MMing is useful; in this case I actually had minimal time left to play the round (since it's due today) and generally don't have that much fun if I MM a ton (because it gets tedious) though I'm getting more amiable toward it.

As for the whaling boats--whoops. I didn't think of them at all and was probably subconsciously assuming they were in place already from the preceding save. Ah well.

Fortunately the unhappiness is a recent development and something that can be dealt with to a pretty good degree without having to switch to Emancipation just yet. (We've got +Happy wonders on the way.) As to the VCs, I suppose I'll see what the aluminum situation looks like, among other things. Either way, I like the tech base.

I figure that the good thing about a space race is that +Production can be managed via civics and tile improvements as needed later on. If nothing else we could use Sushi to offset the food lost from changing some windmills and farms back into hammer-pumps

@Lenowill
Spoiler :
I didn't save it but basically: I switched enough tiles (coast/ocean) to Merchants, worked silver, added scientists to capital (instead of ocean). I didn't renegotiate the trade deals though, that could land another 12gpt.

Just a thought: a religion victory is probably doable: we have Judaism in our land - switch to Judaism+OR (this will draw some hate from Zara - the only guy in a religion). Only Zara is in Theocracy and he already has Judaism. We need to spread it to MM and more to our lands. Now, MM and JC will vote for us but not WvO since we'd lose the civic bonus.

We will go ahead and vote for 2-3 days. Hopefully finish by Saturday/Sunday. Its not always about voting for the best save but the save that will be most interesting or challenging to play. Anyone that submitted a save is free to vote.

Please rank your top 3 in order.

First place 3 points.
Second place 2 points
Third place. 1 point.

PLEASE NOTE!! To keep voting fair you cant vote for your own save. You are expected to vote for 3 saves and give reasons for your voting. Remember this is a learning game. I would encourage everyone to act within the spirit that the cookbook is intended.

Anyway here are the saves:

Leonwill

Gumbolt

Teelman

MJG5591

Kossin

Once all have voted or there is a clear winner we will finish off this game and move on to what looks like a Zulu cookbook last time i looked. Run for the hills!!! lol

Lets still vote but i would be interested to see both Kossin and Leonwills saves completed.

Kossin warmonger style of play against leonwill merchant /scientist parade. Then theres always the race to finish off this game by conquest. Lots of possible challenges ahead.

There's 2 'fast' alternatives imho: capitulate everyone using one of the warmonger save, or use Lenowill's for a backdoor religious win.

1. Gumbolt - already bringing the smack to JC and a ton of canons ready to go. Some galleons on the way for the next wars.
2. Teelman - Railroads are useful for taking over the continent. Globe isn't up yet and the war isn't started: I would have put this first.
3. Lenowill - best economy obviously, I would actually try a religious win from here. In actual gameplay time, this will probably be the shortest to finish.

My votes

1.Kossin- Already has navy assembled for the other continent. Has 4 JC cities already. Has artillery already. Has nice stack about to take another JC city.

2.Gumbolt- Has multiple stacks taking out JC. Looks like fastest save to take out JC. Has a GE for rushing a wonder or mining inc already.

3.Teelman- Best tech situation among the warmongers saves. Has infrantry already. This save would be #1 for me if had a bigger army and the war started already.

Lenowill has the best science save, but from aside a AP or space victory could be tough to win. But I am not good at diplo wins and I could be wrong. Only save with IW built I think.

1. Gumbolt-for the aforementioned reasons. Scads of cannon available for smashing whatever needs to be smashed.

2. Kossin-Ditto what mj said, pretty much. All of the military saves here are pretty strong.

3. Teelman-Seems to mix science and warring, which is all right, but probably not optimal in this particular case. (Though there's some leeway in this game anyway at this point.)

I'd be happy to play my save to the end also in accordance with Gum's suggestion. (I was going to shadow-play it anyway even if something else got picked, just to see how that economy pans out.)
