I am positively in love with the new scenario, but already straining against the inherent game-speed and map constraints. Is it perhaps possible to edit the files in some way which would allow me to play custom maps using the Smoky Skies ruleset?

Cheers!

I made a mod which incorporates the landships from that scenario into the base game, you may want to check it out: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=470128

Sorry for the necromancing.

I'd like to know if someone knows how to enlarge the span of the game or the map. As used as I am to modding Paradox games, modding Civ is to me like reading Chinese.

What exactly would you like to do? You can make some tweaks to the scenario, or, for the most flexibility, you could add the scenario's resources to the base game.

For an example of the latter, have you seen this mod? You play the base game, ending within the world of Smokey Skies. Unfortunately, it needs to be updated for Brave New World (note that if you have BNW, you can disable BNW from the Main Menu to try out the mod).

Possible changes you might want to make: 1. Use the civs/leaders/traits from the scenario instead of the base game (though that'll take quite some doing to give them a second unique and balance them all for a longer game; maybe you could just switch out the leader art and continue to use the base traits and uniques), or 2. "Reconnect" the tech tree to the base game's after the Smokey Skies era ends.
