I think that in Civ4, they should change the 'English' civ, to the 'British'. Nowadays, there is no such thing as 'The English Army' though there are English regiments, along with Scottish, Welsh, e.t.c.
I know this might be critisized because there was no 'Britain' in 1300 AD, for example. Maybe it could be made that the English name would change at a certain age (Not sure when Great Britain was formed). Another Civ that could have this feature is the Romans, but they would HAVE to have their name changed after say 1000 AD since I like having the Roman Empire in my games.

I'd rather the English changed to British most, since im Patriotic like that :crazyeye:

Or you could simply change the name by your self.

I think it's a minor detail that really doesn't matter.

The one makeing the most sense, who cares about the names, i sometimes change America to the US but the US didnt exsist in 4000bc so who cares its a minor detial, also you could name your civ X and it would be fine and noone would care

Seeing as civ 3 with the expansion packs gives 32 civs to choose from civ 4 is likely to have many more civs (hopefully HUNDREDS :D ) and Scotland was independant only 400 years ago so it seems the best idea is to give England,Ireland and Scotland there own civs. (but not sure about Wales, 800 years of english rule and not a big population it would be like giving luxemborg there own civ! ) Or even let the civ progress i.e. Romans-Italians

I'd prefer to see Arthur, or Alfred

They need to fix up the American civ some--in Civ3 it's got Abraham Lincoln leading citizens from the Native American culture group. That doesn't make a lot of sense, Americans in the real world are from the European culture group (well, we were when we came across the pond, anyway--boy, could this post ever stir up a can of wrigglies....)

I say keep the English, the British Empire is just the name the English gave to their empire.

Well, not strictly true, the British Empire was sustained by Scotland, Wales and Ireland as well - Scotland being the more dominant of these three. England is a part of Britain but isn't on its own Britain any more than any of the other nations of Britain are.

Yes you are right Baccus and i didn't mean disrespect to the Irish, Welsh or Scots. I guess what i meant is that the UK, and latter the British empire, were initiated by England through the Acts of Unification with Scotland and Ireland if IIC. (don't know about Wales)

Yes, the Scots did have a 'choice' - join up with England or watch your economy disappear down the pan. The Welsh didn't get a choice at all, just got subsumed sometime during the 13th century and despite a promising but ultimately unsuccessful rebellion haven't managed to escape the clutches of the English!

These might be ideas for Civ IV - esp Scotland's union with England!

Merging two civs or having two civs get 'permanently' allied to each other (or more than 2 for that matter) now that would be a great feature!

i would like to see their names changed and also their charecteristics as the civs move on.if some civs werent around at the time eg US im sure i could live with it being called america in 3000bc

Well, they should just have English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish civs seperately.

Maybe if the English conquered the Scottish and Welsh in a single game, they could be called the British. And what's more, since it was by and large a union of equals between the Scottish and English that formed Great Britain, [and not the entire subjugation of the scotts] the game ought to treat it accordingly.
