I'm currently tearing about the body bit by bit. There's a lot of work ahead of me trying to smooth out the jagged facets. I'll be changing the shape slightly, but not too noticeably.
Also, have you thought about dumping the manned fighter? I know about the romance and bravado of piloted fighters, but have you thought about 24th century UCAV's instead? Drones could be far more effective and just as vulnerable as a manned fighter.
hmm...<scratches chin> you might have something there. I like manned fighters for the reasons that you already mentioned and for the fact that a flesh and blood pilot can react better than a computer ever could. I know the Federation has manned fighters, but I think they are a bit too large to fit in a ship. I like the idea of UCAVs though. I think that AI probably has come far enough to have effective UCAVs, or wait, even better, they could be manned by holograms. I think it would really set this ship apart. Maybe there could be a combination of manned and unmanned fighters. I don't know. I'm open to suggestions though.
I think it should be bigger than the Enterprise E which is supposed to be around 700 meters long. I was going for a length 850-900 meters and it would be a bit wider. The Enterprise D had around 40-45 decks, so I was thinking 30-35 decks would be good as far as depth goes.
Okay, I've been working on this when I ran into an issue. You used the same escape pods found on the Ent-E.. so that is what I used for scale. Your ship is not 900m. It's 1404.1m long is the best estimate I could make when I resized everything in Bryce.
The Enterprise-E is 685m according to the info I found online, this is what it looks like next to your ship. You can see where I've been slowly modifying it.
I like it, and the size is perfect. I said 900 meters because I'm still a bit inexperienced with such things. I look forward to seeing the completed product. Have you ever thought of persuing a career in video game design?
okay my brain is all fried. I've put in about 30 hours of work into this model. I haven't finished with the textures on the stardrive section and I've left out any windows for now.
As you can see.. I made it heavily armored. I also shrank it to your specified 900m.
Spoiler:
I tried to register for the STO forums but it would not let me post in your thread.
That looks really good. Any changes that you have to make are surely going to be for the better. Thanks again for the help. Hopefully we will have a winner.
Oh, and I know why you couldn't post in the forums. You have to pay for a subscription to the game. A rule I personally think is freaking ********.
Ares, I saw your paper. It looks good. Thanks for the opportunity to let me be a part of that.
The contest site wasn't put together very well, so it only allows for one picture for each entry. I was thinking shots of several different angles, and maybe one or two action shots, possibly showing off the carrier function maybe.
