ROOSEVELT DIES IN WASHINGTON! The long time American President died today, ending a remarkable Presidency, which brought the United States out of the Great Depression and reforged it into a society of tolerance. The new President Truman, has vowed to uphold many of the old President's fine policies but has announced a new more active foreign policy, condemning both Germany and the Soviet Union for use of the new atomic weapons.
FRENCH EMPIRE COLLAPSES! The colonial possessions of France have risen up in revolt as the Republican French garrisons withdraw to fight the communists on the continent. Combined with a lack of authority from the fall and continuing fighting between British and communist forces in Paris, new governments have risen up all over the former French Empire. However, to prevent more diversions and fighting, the Republic of France has recognized the majority of colonial governments.
FRENCH COMMUNISTS IN RETREAT! With the collapse of the southern communist pocket and the withdrawl of Italian and Romanian forces from southern France, the British and Republican forces have begun an offensive against the northern communist troops. Reinforced from britian and the French colonial garrisons, the Communists have been forced back once more to Caen, with minimal casualties as combat was avoided.
MIDDLE EAST IN REVOLT! The new nations of Iraq and Palestine have been formed as British garrisons have forces withdrawn to fight in France. The remaining British garrison troops were easily overrun and many killed, and both nations have claimed alliance with Turkey and Syria. Riots have also occured in Egypt, but chances of revolt were put down by alert garrison commanders.

AMERICAN FLEET REBASES! In concord with President Truman's more active foreign policy and the enlarged Japanese influence in the Pacific through posession of British colonies, the American Pacific Fleet has been rebased further west. The fleet's new port of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii stands as a warning against further Japanese ambitions in the Pacific Ocean.
HUNGARY AND ROMANIA BEGIN INDUSTRY MOVE! With the fall of much territory to the Soviet advance, these two Balkan nations have moved some of their industry via plane and railroad to Bavaria in Germany to protect their supplies from the Soviet onslaught. This will allow them to fight and produce even if the Soviets overwhelm their cities.
AMERICAN OCEAN LINER SUNK! An American civil ocean liner was sunk by an unknown submarine. This marks the first civilian vessel to be sunk in the course of the war. President Truman has declared, "This is a vile act of infamy and the nation which perpetrated it will be punished!"
SECOND GREAT WAR
JAPAN ENTERS THE SECOND GREAT WAR! In a bargin with the United Kingdom for control of the majority of the British Far East, Japan has launched an offensive against the weakened forces on the Soviet eastern frontier. The city of Vladiostock has become a major battleground as both sides battle for control of the region. Both the Chinese and American governments have opposed this agression and the growing Japanese influence and navy.

ITALIANS COUNTERATTACK IN ALBANIA! Though the Greeks made initial advances in the first week of May, the Italians have launched a massive attack. Despite dogged Greek resistance and obstructive terrain, the Italians have managed to drive the Greeks back with significant casualties on both sides. In addition, the majority of the Greek air force and surface fleet has been wiped out by coordinated Italian operations air-sea operations. With this setback, rumor has it the Soviets may send a force to support their failing allies.

FINNS BLOODILY REPULSED! Soviet forces were waiting for the Finns when they came across the border. The Finnish forces were easily and effortlessly defeated by the superior Soviet army, with heavy casualties. Furthermore, in a foolhardy attempt to blockade Leningrad, the entire Finnish fleet was wiped out by a combined effort of nearly 200 submarines which trapped and destroyed all the Finns' ships. Despite the ease of the battle, the Soviets still lost 5 submarines to friendly fire. However the Soviets have made no moves into Finland itself, claiming only wishes for peace with the Scandinavian nations.

SOVIETS SWEEP INTO EAST PRUSSIA! Soviet forces attacked the northern part of the Allied lines, punching right though relatively minor German resistance. The city of Konigsburg has easily fallen and Allied troops to the south are threatened with encirclement. During the course of the offensive, the Germans expirimented with the use of Destroyers as artillery support, but were forced to halt this as the Soviets brought up many submarines to drive the Germans back to port. Local Allied air forces were also overwhelmed as the Soviets brought up even more planes to make up for losses in the previous month of fighting.

WARSAW FALLS! Despite German attempts to move the Polish population and use the city of Warsaw as a fortress, the Poles have risen up in support of the Soviet Union and managed to throw the local German forces out and let the Soviets into the city. This could close the encirclement of nearly 60,000 German soldiers north of Warsaw. In addition it has threatened the supply lines of Allied forces in Czechslovakia by putting the city of Lodz under artillery fire.
ATOM WEAPONS USED FOR FIRST TIME IN COMBAT! The Germans have used their nuclear weapon to knock out a major reserve point for Soviet forces in eastern Poland which has forced many Soviet offensives to slow and is one of the reasons the Allied offensive has done as well as it has. The Poles have been outraged by the use of such a weapon and the killing of so many of their countrymen by the attack, and have risen in all of German-controlled Poland. In retailiation, the Soviets have dropped an atomic Bomb on the German city of Dresden. Stalin has announced, "We will fight bomb with bomb, for every bomb they drop on us, we will drop two on them!"

SLUGGING MATCH IN CZECHSLOVAKIA! With the launching of a major flanking counterattack by Allied forces, the Soviets have been forced back a little ways east taken by surprise by the unexpected attack. CLUJ FALLS TO SOVIET ENCIRCLEMENT! Despite the return of Romanian forces from France, the Romanians have had a portion of their forces surronded in the city of Cluj. The army trapped in the city are prepared to fight to the last as brutal building by building fighting begins. Combined with a Bulgarian invasion from the south, taking the remaining oil fields intact, the Allied position in the southern Balkans appears very unstable.

BRITISH CARRIER SUNK AS AIR WAR CONTINUES! Spainish ships have managed to successfully break the British blockade as Spainish battleships, supported by bombers, attacked a British blockading carrier group en masse. This use of bombers in successful naval conflict could revolutionize naval warfare as the world knows it. Throughout the month, British forces have continued to strike at southern Spainish ports and industry and have already inflicted damage to Spain's industrial capacity. However this has cost Britian a good many of its pilots as more and more communist jets take flight against the British Spitfires.
