The Second American Civil War has begun. In Louisiana Texan forces directly commanded by Texas Commander in Chief General Jackson under orders from the Governor have begun a full advance towards the cities of Baton Rogue and New Orleans. The inital advance across the border was completed successfully, however, the advance was halted when the I-10 and Route 61 bridges were destroyed by local defenders,closing a successful crossing to the Texan Army. Despite this, a good deal of the state of Louisiana now lies under occupation of the forces of Texas. In the fight to secure a bridgehead, a Texan mechinized division had nearly 50% of their forces become casualties. Several other divisions suffered merely light casualties.
Confederate forces, resisting the advance by the Texan forces have been formed into the Mississippi Front by a local commander and dispite some casualties inflicted upon some infantry divisions at the onstart of the battle, have formed up into an organized army. The Congress of Confederate States has authorized a draft to provide more troops for the army. It will likely be 1-2 months before these new forces arrive on the front.
The President of the Great Plains Federation has proclaimed to the American people that "We will not stand for aggression from our neighbors and we will prepare for a day when we can unite the states once again, by force of arms if nessecary." One of the first action of the Federation's army was to reform into 3 Army groups, one to defend each front from enemy attacks.
The Great Plains found themselves quickly under siege as the Army of the Lakes, under General Hood. The Army quickly encircled and destroyed an infantry division arriving on the NEA border, followed by a sea landing and encirclement by more New Englanders, which caused the devastation of even more GPF forces. A good portion of Michegan and the remainder of Ohio has fallen to New England control as the advance continues. Casualties were light among most of the NEA forces and were mostly in the amphibious forces which landed in Detroit.
In California the Governor has authorized a massive nationalization of civilian SUVs and Hummers, which have been thusly deployed to several infantry divisions after proper conversion for military use. Two divisions have already been reequiped. Over the next month 3 more divisions should be transformed into mechinized forces.
New England has also begun nationalizing old military hardware in museums and armories. A new Volunteer Division has been assembled with these newly acquired weapons and there are enough to assemble 2 more divisions fully equiped. As part of the training of new forces, the New Englander forces have been reformed into two armies, Army of the Lakes, and the Army of the Potomac. General Hood has been given command of the former and General Davis has been given command of the latter.
The European Union has approved in council to allow for an increase in peacekeeping operations in the former United States. The local commander has been given orders to begin offensive operations in order to reunite the States and reopen the lucrative American market to European business interests.
