error installing 1.52 patch

I can DL it fine but when the setup wizard (win xp) tries to install it, im told that no civ 4 software exists on my p.c.

What do u recomend?

By the way..any suggestions for lessening lag via the in-game settings?

Are you a Direct2Drive Customer? If so you must use their version of the Patch.

If you are not a Direct2Drive, please post Dxdiag and any other symptoms you may have noticed

My p.c. knowledge is limited. As far as I know I'm not a direct drive customer though i'm not sure if that refers to my vid card or something else.

You mentioned a dxdiag. How exactly do I do that please?

Might reinstalling the game help?

Direct2Drive is a company that offered Civ 4 as a (legal) download, as opposed to buying the physical disks and related materials. If you purchased the game from Direct2Drive, then you have to go to their web site and get their special version of the patch.
