Escapist hands-on preview

Hmm, not too much 'new' info but the reviewer defo liked what he played!

Now all we need to do is wait for zero punctuation to review it :O

Edit:/ Just read the review, and not unexpectedly it was a fascinating article, not because it unearthed tons of new content, infact it gave little to none, but the Guys at escapist really do know how to write a story. Very enjoyable to read that 4 page mini story about someone and thier ordeal playing a civ V demo. Good stuff.

He won't. He doesn't review PC games, sticking to the consoles instead. He also prefers to air his contempt for strategy games from afar rather than play them and then air his contempt as he does with other types of games.

He'll hate it unless it's "Nostalgic Click Adventure 4: The Clickening." He prefers story-driven play-once-and-incinerate crap with quirky characters and good dialogue.

I, as a counterpoint, feel that gaming should stand on its own. Gaming isn't a subservient medium meant to mimic the motions of film and literature. Gaming, to me, is all about your Starcraft 2 MP, Company of Heroes, Civ4, Master of (Orion, Magic, etc.) Dynamic platforms where the primary constant is action and interaction. I've already got plenty of novels and DVDs. Give me video games!

I'd rather have "Another WW2 Shooter" with some new kind of ballistics and material penetration than a shooter with old mechanics and some kind of engaging setting. Except for Warhammer 40k, that would be a pretty sweet FPS

Certainly not the weather report of a particular day in NY.
The guy wasn't prepared and had no clue what he was doing.

A preview should give more (detailed) on topic info.

This guy gets paid to spam this kind of crap?
He mainly whines about the heat and limited 45 minutes of gameplay.

I think someone missed the other 3 pages of the preview....

I liked it, and his description of getting his assed kicked by rushing into combat as his time allotment ran out, beautiful.

Yeah I have noticed this, but he does actually review PC games (he has reviewed more console games though I admit), Also he has had a friend play a strategy game for him so he can air his contempt for it :D.

Still, I like listening to him :).

...

As for the article itself, I personally found the many references to the NY heat somewhat humerous, The Escapist is supposed to be a humerous reviewer, atleast the things I have read/listend to certainly are. The 4 page review certainly contains more words than I have read from other reviews, and the article is shaped more into a story of his ordeal playing it from his memory of the event, different to some technical "It will have X in it" Articles. Maybe it's not everyones cup of tea, but you didn't have to read it ;).

While not amazingly informative, we can pick up on a couple new things, Dynmaite is a Tech, that is new information despite "everyone picks that" I guess everybody else failed to remember :P, Also scouting as some of us rightly assumed will be much more important, he planned an attack on the south because he would have an easy line into the city, it turned out his attack plan got him totally annihilated, his "decoy" attack got him massacred and when the rest of his forces went south they ran into a heavily fortified number of infantry. Simply deducded is that "COMBAT WILL BE MUCH MORE EXCITING" The article screams it, giving direct examples of the exciting combat he was subjected too.

P.s 45 minutes... in 45 minutes I could conquer the world, :).

It was entertaining. There are plenty of sources for nuts-and-bolts type info.
