Euro 2004 squads

Yeah, the Cold War rocked. :yeah:

But the Western team was factually the direct successor of the pre-war team. Same for the football association that has been the same in the West ever since it was founded in the Imperial era. Hell, they even kept the coach after the war...

Just out of curiosity: do people still care to know where do the players come from? If there is a high number of players from the old DDR?
Not that it matters much, in 10 yeears all the players will be turkish. ;)

No, people don't care about that, just like they long ago stopped to care where else in (Western) Germany they came from. In fact we're happy about every single one that arises these days.

With the Turks the problem is that many of them play for Turkey. Bastürk and Davala are just two examples. The Altintops are another.

Well, I was looking at the squad for the U21 Euro and noticed that a few of them had a turk name. And I also noticed that lately more and more of them playing in the youth teams.

But I also heard that the turks have people watching every good player that comes out of the turk community in Germany. Then, before the germans realise, he's already playing for Turkey.

it was nearly the same about African Countries and France.
And some good young players coming out those communities prefer to ask for the country were they have more chance to play in national team

Is there a reason why the Czech Republic have an extra player in their squad?

No, I really don't know why.
They 've presented it officially today morning

It's because the coach isn't completely decided on the team. Probably Matusovic or Plasil won't go, so I read.

Ah, yes, you're right :
" The Czech Republic travel to Seefeld in Austria on Monday for a week-long training camp after which the coach is expected to announce his final 23-man squad on Monday 31 May.
The team's remaining friendlies are against Bulgaria on 2 June and then Estonia four days later. "

BTW, I thought that the 23rd player could only be a third goalkeeper. If that's correct (I'm fairly sure) then the russian list is incorrect.

The final list only has to be submited to UEFA on June 2nd IIRC. The russians will probably still make a few changes, including Alenitchev, who plays for Porto, and wasn't called because he's playing the CL final next week.

Btw, Trapattoni seems to be developping a case of dementia. I can't believe he selected Corradi or even Di Vaio and no Gilardino...

Germany squad (22 players announced so far, one to be added later)

Goalkeepers
Oliver Kahn (FC Bayern München)
Jens Lehmann (Arsenal FC)
Timo Hildebrand (VfB Stuttgart)

Defenders
Frank Baumann (SV Werder Bremen)
Arne Friedrich (Hertha BSC Berlin)
Andreas Hinkel (VfB Stuttgart)
Philipp Lahm (VfB Stuttgart)
Jens Nowotny (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)
Christian Rahn (Hamburger SV)
Christian Wörns (BV Borussia Dortmund)

Midfielders
Michael Ballack (FC Bayern München)
Fabian Ernst (SV Werder Bremen)
Paul Freier (VfL Bochum 1848)
Torsten Frings (BV Borussia Dortmund)
Dietmar Hamann (Liverpool FC)
Jens Jeremies (FC Bayern München)
Sebastian Kehl (BV Borussia Dortmund)
Bernd Schneider (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)

Forwards
Fredi Bobic (Hertha BSC Berlin)
Thomas Brdaric (Hannover 96)
Miroslav Klose (1. FC Kaiserslautern)
Kevin Kuranyi (VfB Stuttgart)

I don't like it. He should have taken the opportunity to leave out the old annoying players once and for all.

Hadn't Wörns renounced the NT a while ago?
