Event ideas thread!

Sounds like a good event however, shouldn't it be only active when you are using hereditary rule in addition like something such as vassalage?

Well, I really think that you don't need to be in hereditary rule per se to have that kind of story. For example, Bush Jr. And there is a lot of other son or daugther of XXX in all kind of possible government.

We can not deal with this now.
Reduce hunting! (-1 food to deer plot)
Fund a team to help them breed! (cost of 400 gold, 50% chance for extra deer appearing)

29. "There has been an attempt on your life. A man is being held by our security services and they believe he was sent by the French government."

Prosecute him and make the trial public but keep the french out of this! (+1 production from courthouse in capital, +1 gold from broadcast tower)
Extract more information from this man, I want to know everything (+5000 espionage against france)
Put all blame on the french government, We will retaliate. (War with france, +5 in all cities for 15 turns).
 
How about making different diplo modifiers for a variety of civics held by the other civ? After all, marrying a princess off to a nation not in HR will have less impact than one that is. +6 for HR, +0 for PS or despotism, +3 for all others...the modifier changes as civics change.

That would work. I put that event forth because it did occur frequently through the beginning of the 20th century. I'm actually a bit surprised that Firaxis omitted it from the game. I figured that better minds than mine would come up with some more appropriate outcomes.

2. "The french are offering a mutual training program for our armored units"

Choices
Sounds great! All french tanks and your tanks start with Drill I.
No way! We do not train with our rivals!

15. "A sheep or pig cloning facility is now a real possibility!"

Choices
Do it. We have lots of mouths to feed! (2 new sources of sheep or pigs appear in culutral boarders, -2 Happiness in all cities)
That is not ethical. (+2 Happiness in all cities for 30turns)

Some of these ideas are good, but I was initially turned off by how bad your first two suggested events were.

Number 15 is a bit stupid IMO. Cloning animals doesn't mean you can just conjure them out of nothing and feed more of the population. In civ terms, the outcome of a cloning facility would be something more like a :science: boost.

Give him gifts to bring this to a peacful conclusion! We will leave them be for now. (+1 happiness in nearby cities)
Send armed forces with him. Find out by force everything they know about the area!(75% chance of discovering gems, -1 happiness in nearby cities)

"There has been a major accident on one of our missile cruisers, One of the missiles has exploded inside the ship"

We cant afford to repair it, Abandon ship!
Repair it and learn from this mistake! (costs money, +2 experiance points to ship)

That is an excellent one!

And now, a question: wouldn't including almost any of these in the game require Python? I ask as someone who knows what Python is but not much more than that.

This might sound a lot like the tsunami event but let's give it a go

26) A massive outbreak of smallpox has infested our city

-The city can not be saved (<=5P): city is wiped out, 100% of contagion on nearby cities :thumbsdown:
-City 6P+: let the citizens fend for themselves -5 population, 75% of contagion in nearby cities, 25% city will be destroyed :run:
-City 6P+ costs money: send in the doctors but be mindful of the disease. quarantine the city, -5 population, 25% of contagion in nearby cities


This might seem like an overkill event but it could be used to prevent areas from being settled thus leaving land open for colonies like for an earth map, medieval or not. BY the way, is there a way to make an event happen with certain frequency and at specific areas of the map??? Then I think this one could be useful... kinda.

Let them join us! (Gain the size 3 city,-3 happines from cities at least 15 squares away)
They are Barbarians! They will never join us! ( City turns hostile and gains a few armies,+ 3 happiness in cites at least 15 squares away)

- There is nothing we can do at this time: -2:health: permanent and -1:food: permanent for all sea food resources of immediately nearby cities.
- Fix the damage: prevents spill
- Fix the damage and promote efficiency ans safety of our facilities: prevents spill, decreases chances of spill on all platforms, +1:commerce: per platform

Requires: Medicine, Mass Media, Corporations + at least one unhealthy city. A little enlightenment wouldn't hurt either...

1. - Ignore the heresy, and continue to victimize our population! -10 :health:, -10 :gold: (doubles every five turns from increasingly impoverished citizens becoming ill and being unable to pay to get well), - 2 :), -3 :culture:, +5 :commerce: from hospitals, +5 :mad: at "Managed Care" doctors ignoring the Hippocratic Oath.

2. - Impeach him! We can't have socialist medicine! +5 :) with all people who like to put labels on everything. +5 :) from Lou Dobbs, and Fox News. +1 :rolleyes: from every Civ with progressive medical care. + 5 :mad: from sick and impoverished populace. Plus effects from #1 above. Escalating maintenance and sick non-working populace eventually bankrupts your civ.

3. Hmmm. Maybe this idea has merit... +5 :) from populace. +10 :health: in all cities, +10 :commerce: per city from healthy population. +10 :mad: from hospital corporations, Fox News, Lou Dobbs, and people who like labels.

1. Invest in a study on how to use their safety ideas for our new designs No chance of meltdown on all nuclear plants built from now on. Costs 100 gold

2. Invest in the study, and refit our old reactors to use these ideas No chance of meltdown for all new and existing power plants. Costs 100 gold plus 50 gold for each nuclear plant you have.

3. Ignore the paranoid alarmists, nuclear power is completely safe. No cost, but chance of nuclear meltdown increases every 20 turns for rest of the game or until you get this event again and choose one of the other options.
 
The Lemon merchant event seem a little politically oriented ;) (not that I hate that, I'm from a country with a pretty correct guaranteed health care)

The Badtz Maru idea is very very good, it fit my conception of nuclear plant : most of them are really safe (less accident prone than most factory I think), but decreasing the attention on that could lead to some little problem :mischief:
