Well I did it! I declared war on the Romans, for better or worse! As I see it, this war will make or break it for us. Here we go!
1550 - Pre Turn - I assess the possibilities of war against the Romans. They don't have Military Tradition, but I imagine they will get it soon... The only hope is that we will have far more cavalry then they will when we attack. I consult the military advisor, and our army is weaker than the Romans... I also check the trade advisor - we have a trade agreement with them! 11g/turn for gems.... Oh well.. I won't attack until that is finished, in about 8 turns.
1555 - Turn 1 - I notice something significantly wrong - all of our size 12 cities are still producing excess food, but they can't grow! Micromanaging these produces a
MAJOR boost in production, with no other ill effects. To illustrate:
Our Capitol - Before - 12 shields/turn After -
26 shields/turn!!!!!
Konigsberg - 15 ---> 20 shields/turn
Munich - 18 --> 21 shields/turn!
In any case, watch out for this - especially in our Capitol - the difference was incredible.
Turns 2 and 3 - 1560-1565 - 6 new cavalry built, military getting bigger! :die!:
Turn 4 - 1570 - Romans have military tradition!!!

I knew this would happen, oh well.
Turn 5 - 1575 - Magnetism next turn - I lower our science to add 587 gold to go along with it..

- 3 more cavalry built!
Turn 6 - 1580 - I buy a few barracks in key cities with our cash. The Aztecs dial up wanting to trade Territory Maps, and I agree. - 4 more cavalry built!
Turn 7 - 1585 - Romans have Theory of Gravity, and have entered the Industrial age!

We are 4 turns behind them technologically. To add insult, the offer to trade it to us for 1230 gold! Since they will soon be begging to give it to us to save them from annihilation, I don't take the deal.
Turn 8 - 1590 - The trade deal is up.
WAR!!!
First thing, I trade the Iroquois 320 gold for a military alliance. The Iroquois are the only ones close enough to divert the Roman attention.
First Up :
SYRACUSE - This is that annoying city close to our Capitol. About 6 Cavalry attack - and 4 musketmen are destroyed!! No cavalry lost!!! I capture this city because with it's proximity to the capitol will be a good producer.
Next:
UMTATA - This is one on our southern border - A Roman Stronghold with a population of 8. Two musketmen destroyed, along with a pike and spear. Again, no cavalry lost!!! I just raze this one.
Next:
PALYRA - Adjacent to Umtata, on our Southern border. This one doesn't go as well, as several cavalry are wounded, but again, NO ONE lost! And again, the town is razed.
Finally:
HLOBANE - This is that annoying city on our northern coast. Easily razed by 2 cavalry.
SUMMARY:
I decide to stop there, as 8 turns still took a long time, and I have started the fire. I figured I'd be considerate and let the next ruler deal with the consequences
Just kidding, it should be fun, although I expect a severe Roman counterattack. I'm not sure I waited until we had enough cavalry, but since I razed 4 cities and didn't lose a single cavalry, I figure we are ok.
On the next turn, 3 cavalry are poised to take the saltpeter city, and 5 more are positioned right outside another Roman city near our Capitol.
The forces in the south are in a bit of disarray, and for this I apologize.

My intention was to pull the wounded back to be healed, and then I was worried about a counterattack, so I moved some muskets out to cover them. I hope this makes sense..
Good Luck!!!
