...because we desprately NEED ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT WHICH CIVS TO INCLUDE! hahahhahahahahahahaaahahahaahahajhkdsha!
Anyway, considering that it looks like the number of civs for the vanilla game will be a disapointing (to me) 18, I just thought, well what civs should be included in the expansion pack? So lets go with a hopeful but still reasonable number of 8, and well, maybe try and give reasons for who should be in and not.

So let me present the (DADADADA!) next random post of civs to be included.

1. Assyria/Babylon/Sumeria - Mesopotamia needs top be represented. They seem to be the most missed civ, it doesn't matter so much what incarnation gets in, everyone just seems to want a Mesopotamian civ, perhaps for the simnple reason that these folks more or less invented civilization...
2. The Turks/Ottomans - Ahh, a greast combination of the "horde" civ, as well as a major empire and a modern state. The Turks have invaded about everyone, set up the primary post-Mongol Islamic Caliphate, and Turkey today is still a major power.
3. Ethiopia/Abyssinia- Mali is a better choice than the Zulu, but I think that Sub-Saharan Africa needs at least one more civ. The Ethiopian highlnads have always nurtured a distinct culture, and if they have not been as powerful as sosme of the other civs, they make up for it in the length of their civilization, its cultural distinctiveness (an Island of distinct Christianity in a sea of Muslims and animists) and their contribution in terms of crops, (anybody here drinking coffee as they read this? Thank the Ethiopians), the birth place of the Sementic languages, and the only African nation not to be colonized (that Italian invasion doesn't count, its like saying Hungary was "colonized" by the Germans)
4. Siam/Thais- SOMEBODY has got to represent SE Asia, leaving them out for so long is just stupid. The Thais had an empire as big as the Khamers in their heyday, and unlike Cambodia, Thailand is still a major regional power. Plus the people are so dammned nice, it just seems mean not to include em.
5. Korea-Well they may not have had an empire, but Korea is old, (nearly 2000 years), its maintained its lingustic and political distinctivness despite Japanese and Chinese colonialism, and the population of Korea is actually quite large, only Germany and Russia in Europe have bigger populations. Being a first-world country and large-game market can't hurt either...
6. Hebrews/Israel- Perhaps not the largest empire in history, but the Jews have a ridiculously long history, an impact on world religion that can only be rivaled by the Indians (and there's like 50 times as many Indians as Jews).
Anybody who thinks they're too "contreversial" should also realize that every other civ in the game is guilty of far worse things than the Israelis ever were, and we'd be left playing with the Australian Aboriginies, modern Finland and Cnada etc, etc.
7-8 Celts and Norse. Okay, here I have to admit, I'm just going for fun. There's no real reason to consider the Celts and Vikings "civilizations" in the normal sense of the word, but gawdammit, people like them! And SOMEONE should represent pre-civilized Europe, the hordes of Northern barbarians trashing the Western roman empire is just to fun a historical scenario to pass up, plus I myself am descended from a combination of these savages...

I think it's a bit early for this.

We haven't even seen the game yet...
I don't think so. After all, we more or less know the vanilla civs, so we have a good picture of what's being left out.

On the other hand, the content of the initial release is probably locked by now and they might already be starting to design the nature of expansions at Firaxis. It is best to give opinions in time; you never know when it's too late to influence the shaping up of the expansions.

Addition: I'm largely on the same lines as Dolemitetornado. However, I wouldn't be content with just one Mesopotamian civ. I'd prefer having Assyria for a change, and either Babylonia or Sumeria or, what would be the best, all of them.

Also, Polynesia would be a cool addition, which hasn't been covered before (except in CTP).

Civ developers take note - a mix of the 8 civs listed at the top for inclusion. IMHO the best and fairest list I've seen.

Well 9 - separate the Celts and the Vikings. I spent 90% of the random map game as the Celts. Oh...and maybe a Polynesian civ, and Carthage and.................etc.,etc.

Heck, personally I'll take the lot. All of it. About a hundred civs perhaps. Won't happen though :(.

"the jews" and the nations of ancient Israle, Judea, and Modern israle arnt one int he same, and wont be "Judaism" is a religion, not an ethnicty, and in a game the represents the religon already, to have a civlizations whos sole reason for beign in the game at all is because of its very definition bya religion of which it is by no means garunteed to get is, to cut the rhetorical bull crap, stupid.

that said, I want Carthage, Ethiopia, Siam/Khmer, Norse, Byzantium, Babylon, Maya, Soux, Celts, Korea

I would want:

Ethiopia
Vikings
Siam/Khmer
Mayans
Babylon
Celts
Ottomans
#8 I can't decide on. Possible civs:
Ashanti/Asante
Tibet
Sioux
Carthage

Norse, Turks and Ethiopians would seem most important to me.
From personal preference, i'd like to see Poland, Hungary or some Balkanian civ and Korea...

From top on downwards they get less important:
Babylon
Ottoman Turks
Korea
Maya
Carthage
Khmer
Celts
Assyria
Iroquois
Scandinavia or Poland
Ethiopia

that should be enough for first ... :)

My List:

Netherlands (Leader: William of Orange)
Sioux (Leader: Sitting Bull)
Denmark (Leader: Christian X)
Korea (Leader: Wang Kon)
Ireland (Leader: James II)
Scotland (Leader: Robert the Bruce)
Melanesia (Leader: John Frum)
Maya (Leader: 18 Rabbit)

X-Pac civs?

I'd say
-Portugal
-Netherlands
-Poland(or Poland-Lithuania)
-Khymer
-Ethiopia
-Scandinavia
-Iroquois
-Austria
-Mesopotamia(because of cultural and geographical similarities, I think we could represent Babylon/Assyria/Sumeria as one. Or just go with Sumeria.)
-Carthage or Phonecia(they could cover each other
-Turks/Ottoman Empire
-Hebrews(or Melanesia, but Hebrews is probably the better choice.

12 new civs would be wonderful, BTW. I hope they do a big number, and not stiff us. :)

John Frum ?

John Frum was the founder of The Famous Melanesian Cargo Cults and one of the First Unifying Forces that created The Modern Nations in Melanesia like Papua New Guinea, He was Martyred by the British in 1941, but years later Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu gained Independence and have Enjoyed a stability that Indonesia doesn't Share.

Good Expalnation?

Denmark (Leader: Christian X)
Since Denmark seems important enough to get wished, I'd like to see Sweden in with Gustav II Adolf - the "Lion of the North" and savior of protestants :) - or perhaps Karl XII as the leader .
But I'd be happy if they'd atleast include the Vikings/Scandinavians in the expansion.

And I don't mind a bit of eurocentrism.

There are 3 civs I'd push before any other

The Ottoman Turks, Carthage, and Assyria (although Babylon would probably be a more popular choice, and I wouldn't object to them instead, but there has to be representation from the Tigris and Euphrates).

I'd also like Korea, the Vikings, Ethiopia (or should that be Abyssinia), the Iroquois, and Siam.

That's 8. I have no idea how many would be included overall for an expansion pack. I would have included the Mayans as well if I thought more would be included (I put the Vikings ahead of them because I thought they would be more interesting in game).

My short list:

Turks (Awesome steppe to civilized transition)
Assyria (Because seige archers would look so much cooler than "bowmen")
Mayans (You need them. Period.)
Ethiopia (see Mayans)
Celts (see Mayans)
Harappa (These are so awesome that to leave them out is sacrelige)
Thais (Awesome East Asian Civ)
Korea (See Thais)

I like this geographic balance. A few more for even later:

Tiahuanuco (because South America is so boring with just Incas)
Kerala (nice Indian Civ to balance things out)
Bactria (There's a lot of history behind them)
Kongo (Nice Subsaharan civ to have)
Vikings (They didn't make my list above, but are still cool)
Carthage (see Vikings)
Portugal (I suppose)
Magyars (I suppose a steppe turned Euro nation wouldn't hurt.)

A note to Civ 4 developers: I've decided I'm not buying this game until you package it with an exp... So you'd better make it worth it.

I mostly agree with your list. I would however drop Israel, add Poland and split Norse into Sweden and Denmark. I also consider Celts a bit problematic, but I have no good solution.
