Exploration thread

I'd prefer to map our coastline. if we are going to cross the ocean, we should set the admiralty to building more curraghs....

should we go to mapmaking? I wouldn't - I want that tech to be expensive for a long time - we have 2 luxes, which should do us fine for another 2000 years.

trades won't hurt us getting to philo first. Either iroquois beat us or they don't. None of the other can beat us, unless they made contact with the iroquois and traded for alpha.

A few more mapped out tiles can never be as valuable as an early contact. I say go for it.

The earlier we meet other teams, the better. People who encounter eachother later tend to have worse relations than people who meet earlier. This comes from my own multiplayer experiences.

Therefore, I say "Explore South!... And North!"

there is a possibility of a safe crossing to our east, along the coast.

That said, I'm ok with the perilous crossing being attempted - but if we are sending suicide curraghs, The Admiralty *has* to make more. We might lose 3 or more attempting that crossing.

Is there a safe crossing to the east?
If so, that might be worth it before sacrificing some dingies to get over.

I would be surprised if there is. I would like to see the crossing be done now, but then again I'm always a bit reckless. ;)

There is already visible a safe crossing to the north.

The crossing to the south?... I'd still try it. But I don't know if we have consensus yet

I think there is consensus for trying the southern crossing. Everyone seems at least comfortable with the idea. I'm all for trying it. We have a curragh going north to explore that crossing. If we lose CC The Chamber we can have another curragh ready in seven turns. (Three turns if we switch from a warrior in The Admiralty - but with the barbs about we may not want to do that.)

Here's the suggested heading for the perilous crossing:

This heading points directly towards the shallow looking water. I've got the save open and will wait awhile to do anything incase the do not really have consensus.

I am fine with a crossing attempt.

Although, some more coast to sea to coast moves further west of the current position could be an option before the risk of losing the curragh in the crossing attempt.

I'm fine with the crossing.

If you assume that we will need at least 2 curraghs to get one across, we, on average, lose no time by sending the curragh west for a couple of turns until we get another one down there.

But I agree - the *likelihood* of there being a crossing west is low.

What am I saying? crossing is ok :)

Anyone know what our Curraghs chances for survival are?

50% each turn, no more no less.

Chamsuri is still afloat and back in shallow waters - but no land in sight. :(

What heading for next turn?

Hmm.... That was a bummer.

Maybe he could do one movement onto the sea and then return the next, all around to see if there is a purple patch in one direction?

Well to get back to our own island we'd have to risk a turn in the ocean so maybe it is best to just press on south or east. We could spend a couple of turns poking around first though to see if any particular direction looks more promising.

I agree with Aigburth. No point risking a journey back for what little gain we can find there. We could poke around a few turns, but I think straight S is the best direction. In any case we should take two step and end up SE of our current position for the next turn.

Agree with Niklas. And let's get more boats out to attempt the other crossings!
