Fail to allocate video memory

I have been having a problem lately with this error:
Failed to allocate video memory, please try reducing your graphics settings.

I have a Radeon X850 XT Platinum edition.

I have had this problem with Vanilla, Warlords and BTS. It has only been happening since the install of the previous version of BTS. I have previously had no video problems. I have been trying to play only on small maps as it first started with a large BTS map.

I have updated the video drivers to current recommended versions. Any help would be appreciated.

Usually this means you need to update DirectX.

Ok...search isn't working but I manually found this one. I'm having the same issue, suddenly, in multiplayer games. I surely do not think it's a directX issue,as the game sure worked on this computer before.

Any other possible causes or fixes?
