Fall from heaven SG - High to Low

EDIT: Oh and speed could be epic, but normal is fine too. Marathon might be too long.

Epic may just be too long too. But then again we need extra time here.

5.1.: Compact Enforced: This will prevent the Infernals and Basium from entering the game. I'd like this to be on, but it will make our second switch likely to be to the Infernals.

5.2.: No hell terrain: Hell terrain really screws my computer, so I don't like playing with it. But I wouldn't mind it being on, since patience is a virtue ;p.

5.3.: Permanent alliances: I like checking it when playing high to low, since it helps to save situations that are almost lost. It makes the game easier, most of the tomes.

5.4.: No Acheron: Acheron is a bad choice for this game because the AI can handle it. Some civs are likely to get destroyed by constantly suiciding troops trying to kill him. So I vote to check it.

5.5.: Living World: Events are always nice!

Perm alliances is fine, but if you want perm alliances you need to have leave off Compact Enforced and have tech trading be normal. Acheron is simply annoying really, and lacks epicness plus I hate having to wait for Spirit Mana.

Hell Terrain is good, leave it, I wanna screw with my enemies.

Living world is fine if it makes you happy.

Oh, and the reason we want to start out as Illians is because we cast Stasis on Turn 3 and soon after we are the #1 Civ and we switch out to the next Civ, making this Succession High to Low game easier.

But isn't there a 50 turn cool-down period before the first shift can be done? Or have they changed that recently?

I think with any civilisation that can handle a REX we should be in good stead for a quick change.

Ilians or Hippus sound good.

Ichabod maybe you could upload us a couple of starts that we can ponder upon?

Illian start would mean not having to waste away in stasis when the AI does it, so that's a definite upside to starting with them as well as giving us a leg up on the game.

I'd like to look at starts as well if we're up to that point and have agreed on the settings. Have we?

Just sent Ichabod a PM there, he hasn't been around the site since the 1st so he may be sick or something.
I'd say give it a day or two, and them we could discuss rolling a start, and getting him back in when he returns.

Sounds good, because I wouldn't like to see this go down. I suggest that someone should roll the starts on friday, if Ichabod doesn't show up.

I could do that (I'm uneployed so have the time). Are we definitely going with Illians, and what map-script will I use. I'll roll 5 and put them up for your viewing pleasure.

I'd still like to ask about settings

Large/Epic with other settings as specified by the majority or... Normal/Epic, Large/Normal?

I personally prefer the first, Epic would give more time and large maps are imo suited for the variant. Illians sound good as the first civ since it will be easy to set up the game with an early stasis and the switch to an AI.

As for the mapscript, use ErebusContinent, I think that's the best one out there for FFH and makes for interesting maps and at that maps that are way more enjoyable than the regular Erebus script as far as Ai competitiveness goes.

What about difficulty? I'd like for you to specify the settings you will use in their entirety before rolling but other than that I'm more than interested in seeing some starts.

My deduction of the settings (with my personal preference coming to play on speed obviously! :) )

Large
Epic
+2 or +3 AI
Compact enforced
Living World
No Acheron

Sound good?

Ok I'll go with large/epic on the map script. As regards the choices within the map I would go the default for all, with high cohesion for the first one. If anyone has other ideas for sea levels, jungle, hills, mountains etc. for flavour I'd like to hear. I haven't messed around with the map-script much (I just roll the map and play it).

I think with large +2 on the AIs is fine, and the extra choices are all right too, Acheron often being a PITA just sitting there and hogging nice land.

Sounds good to me.

I say no to Acheron, because it always makes me wanna get some mind mana and perhaps a beastmaster. My recent getting-back-into-FfH-game as Sheaim game is a bit ruined because of it. (Eater of Dreams, Liches, SoIs -> too easy)

Ok I've rolled 6 maps (well actually 8, first forgot to pick the leader and got Einos Logos with a Yggadrassil start, and second forgot the extra settings d'oh!)

OK here are the settings for all the games:

I used the default settings for the map script generation, and the first 3 games include +2 AI civs and the second 3 have +3 AI civs.

Ok the starts:

Now I've no experience of the Ilians so I don't know what's a top start here. But my thoughts are game 4 is over-powered with the Letum on our doorstep, and game 6 is underpowered, with little starting land, and no way to get past the Ring without a boat. I have all six saves safely stored away, and if none of these are to your liking I can reroll a few more.

Yeah I agree that we should probably rule out no. 4 right away because it is too easy. On the other hand though, we would be switching away from the Illians sooner rather than later so in that sense it would make for a strong AI. On that point though, we might later return to them as the final civ which in turn would make it way easy. Overall I think the simplest thing is to rule 4 out.

6 does seem to open up to the south but I obviously can't tell just from looking at the picture. It's by no means a spectacular start but I'd call it playable nonetheless.

5 has my interest but would require moving so that we would settle on t2 at the soonest. While not a big deal for me, could be for some. There is the option of 3 food sources in bfc with little trouble and that's good for any start. For that save I'd settle on the tribal village.

3 or 2 don't evoke any interest. No comments on those.

1 is a playable start but is a little bit worse than 5 from the information available.

With that, my rankings for the screenshots is 5, 1, 6, 4, 3, 2.

Ok we've got 2 votes for start 5 and one vote for the majority. Of course we should see what the others think, so I'll PM Bill, Jusos and Ichabod to let them know.

On the order of play I think we should preserve the original order, especially as it gives an experienced FFHer (Ozbenno) the first go.
