"Fall Patch" announced

I've been going into overdrive to be honest. I start games and play them non-stop in order to finish them before the patch ruins my saves.

So its still not out! Very disappointing. We could have modded it ourselves by now... Pathetic.

And who was the smart guy insisted the Patch would be out by Windows 8 release?

Can somebody comfirm that the patch note :
Attempting a coup in a location where there is no defending spy (the current ally does not have a spy there) is >=2x as likely to work as it would if there was a spy there.

Will this olso increase the ability to defend against coups by a defensive spy?

No. It means the current coup success chance if you have a spy in your ally, seeing as the aggressor has double their chance if there is no spy

BUt it was allready low I've had my city states beeing couped even when I had a ranked spy in it :crazyeye:

Well Might as well turn off espionage Until they fix it. :(

It's possible that they are doing last-minute/hour/day tweaks and changes or that they have come across with technical problems. Wouldn't surprise me since the DLL is a pretty big thing.

Again, Fall/Autumn ends on December 21. Astronomy doesn't lie. We're still almost a month away from any sort of soft "deadline." Sooner than that should be a welcome surprise, not the expectation.

Greg maybe should have never even mentioned this patch because this is what people do every single time. He could have said it comes out in June 2014 and people would be on here complaining about how it's late.

...then why haven't you?

Notice the word 'we' rather than 'I'. Obviously I meant as a community effort.

Greg has apparently left so I doubt we will ever hear from him again.

It's not that it's late. It's that there has been literally zero communication updating the community. What bugs me about this whole thing is that it seems like we wont even know the patch is coming until it starts downloading on steam.

I take a look at how 2k games/Firaxis do things, and then I look at another game I'm playing MechWarrior Online, and it's like night and day. The MWO devs have clearly outlined their time table for development and patch releases. Of course things get missed and pushed back, but they let the community know when it happens and what their next target date is. Inevitably you have some criers when there is a delay, but the vast majority really appreciate the two-way communication.

I'm not asking for promises. What I am asking for is transparency and communication.

Think this is bad? Try being a Skyrim PS3 player.

The DLC came out on XBox in June and was supposed to be on PC and PS3 by the end of July. Still waiting.

How many patch cycles have you been through Jman5?

We've been getting previews for a while now, with vanilla. A lot of times, we get multiple previews of a patch with new things being added with each new preview. They usually start with an ETA date of 'Sprig' 'Summer' 'Fall' etc and when patch is ready Greg2K or someone at 2K will usually gives a heads up on the patch release date. I've never actually seen a major patch release go unannounced beforehand.

Hotfixes do however go unannounced a lot of times and we only hear about it after it has already patched the game via Steam.

Lastly Civ5 is not an MMO. It doesn't live or die with constant item updates to keep the base interested. If anything the lack of a need to patch G&K speaks to the Q&A and the great beta testing team (many of the post here) who gave input prior to release.

A lot of the items in the Fall patch notes are actually improvements/additions, rather than fixing 'problems'

I don't think not giving a release date right now is an issue at all. Quite the contrary, I appreciate we're getting advance notice of what is coming.

An awesome patch is coming out 2 years after the game is released and all you kids can do is complain. When you grow up and get a job (one with real responsibilities) I hope your boss holds you to the same standards.

Bah!

It's this "real responsibilities", "job", and "boss" (not Big Boss though :() that have made me neglect my addiction hobby of playing Civ games.

Unfortunately, I need a "fixed salary" to fund my crack habit of Civving generous playing time with video games and TBS in particular.

Totally not worth it to be responsible... :mischief:

I think there will be a slow warming up of the modders once the .DLL is out. But once one of the big time modders put together like a rise of mankind or something then steam is just going to overflow with mods.

Hey, don't lump all us 'kids' in the same boat here

While I very much would appreciate news and steady info, let alone a two-way line of communication with the devs...

Having worked for a game company, I'm intimately familiar with how much work and liability the company assumes doing that. Liability in the sense that any PR to the online community is risky and can backfire / cause all sorts of problems.

See... the very same people who are biatching and moaning about the lack of communication are the very same ones who read the world into the smallest nuances of any communications that are made and nitpick them to death.

Case in point: a rep at a con in Germany casually lets drop that they plan to have it out in Autumn before Windows 8. So there's all this analysis of Win8's release date, what "Fall/Autumn" is, when the fricking winter solstice is, etc.

Guys... we can't have it both ways. As it is, while I'd love to have news, I find it hard to blame them for simply saying, "ok, we can't win either way, so we're just going to say nothing and avoid the expense of a full online PR staff." (Hopefully this makes the product line more profitable and we'll get more cool stuff for Civ5 and a better Civ6 in the works.)

Bottom line, say your piece, and then shaddup. No sense going on and on making us all miserable and increasing the designer's reluctance to say anything in the first place.

Well, it`s like I said at the very start of this thread somewhere. They should have kept the release quiet and simply released it when done.

But if you look throughout the years since patching began, Devs have always, always done this with few exceptions. they always want to bring out the news before they`re actually sure when or even if it will be released. Then they get rushed and release a worse patch cos everyone starts complaining.

They never learn. They bring the whines on themselves.

If they don't announce any patches or DLC, people complain that there's been no communication from the devs.

If they do announce patches/DLC but don't release it shortly after announcing it, people complain that there's still no communication from the devs.

They can't win...
