"Fall Patch" announced

^ I agree. And we shouldn't apologize for the companies when they release a bad product.

I'm saying G&K is not a bad product. Actually it's one of their best expansions ever. I don't think they deserve the unfair negativity about them taking their time to release this patch.

As I noted, the complaints about them teasing the notes then not releasing it is very unfair. They did this with the later vanilla patches when they were no longer fixing the original incomplete game but really adding new stuff and balancing the game and people ate it up.

The only difference this time is there wasn't a Summer patch to fix major problems with G&K because there frankly wasn't many pressing bugs like that to fix.

This I can agree with 100% without even a "but" in there.

I love that they told us what is coming, what to look forward to, and gave us things to discuss until it comes out...when we can discuss even more.

Without any major, game-breaking problems, I'd rather get a patch that fixes things than a patch that needs patched. Taking the time to ensure everything is in properly working order, and making sure that the balance changes that come are, indeed, balanced, is much more important that releasing a fall patch in early fall.

You can stop reading now, the rest is for the people wanting the patch now.

And guess what (this directed somewhat angrily at people that complain about the slow patch), I'd rather see the patch come out next March than see it rushed a SINGLE day to get it out before the first day of winter. This gimme-it-now-ism is exactly what leads to at least a portion of the problem I talked about earlier.

You want a game, it comes out rushed with bugs.
You complain about the game coming out rushed with bugs
You talk about how the sequel will be the big one of the series.
You want the sequel, a game, and we return to step one.

Rushing developers does nothing but give us poorer quality.

Just because its taking ages, that's not a sign of quality, it could take ages and ages and STILL be horrifically broken either balance or glitch wise (likely both).

Take the base CIV V for example. We were waiting years and years, and on launch day, were presented with a complete piece of junk that disappointed the community to an extent none could predict. Remember the days of conquering an entire Pangaea on Deity with two or three Companion Cavalry? That's what YEARS of development gave us. Great! ;)

Time taken isn't always directly related to quality, but just imagine, if that was the slow product that took a long time, what we would have gotten had they rushed!

Well, rushed even more...the release vanilla Civ5 was bad beyond words and I would refuse to believe anyone involved seriously thought they were putting out anything but a horrible product, meaning they rushed it out.

But they always could have rushed it more. Wireframe leaders, totally random diplomacy (got close to this anyway), and every unit after IW's discovery requiring iron? At least it wasn't that rushed :P

the good thing about people who are impatient with the patch is that they give you someone to argue with while you wait for the patch

But the patch should be out now! NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!

Taking like 5/6 months to fix things like 25k RA bug and other annoying things I have with G&K release is a little ridiculous to be honest. Expect after this patch for there to be no future major patches as long as this new patch doesn't break to many things. Obvious the majority of developers to have moved on to other projects, probably only have a couple interns on the patching job now. :P

CIv 5 gods and kings is not a finished product it has still some anoying bugs wich are game breaking and balance issues wich could be prevented by test playing(beta players)

I sometimes thinx they don't even playtest civ 5 .

Cleary things like , invisable units, the screen moving when the AI is playing are thigns that should be noticable if the developers where playing the game.

Just a bit disapointed that instead of fixing anoying bugs that where allready at the release of the game The reason behind this is :

they keep adding new stuff that they need to rebalance which takes a long time as result a lot of patches as a result they don't spend time on the minor bugs that are still in the game.

IF you look at succefull games you will see that the first priorities are bugs after that balance issues

I agree with your last part. That is fine by me. Just announce it close to release. If it is next March so be it, then announce it next Feburary. Not six months early. What good does that do? No good. Most of us do not want some crappy garbage patch rushed out there. Just develop it then let us know closer to release. We already know they are working on plenty for this game. So, we do not need six month surprises. :)

Patches cost the game company money, right? So they are just being smart with their cash, releasing a big patch months down the road rather than a handful of small ones. I can respect that decision since there were no game breaking bugs, it was and still is very playable without the patch.

And there is a good chance that the final patch notes will include more than what was given at the beginning of the month.

Some of you ranters should realize that a few of our friends here, like MadDjinn, are testing the patch. I trust him and others on the team and with the few resources Firaxis can give to a free upgrade, it would take time to evaluate and prioritize the responses from the test team.

Does he test it?

Then people would complain that the developers aren't supporting the product with patches or even working on patches. I can already hear the complaints that the studio is "keeping their fans in the dark about Civ" and rumors of them killing CivV support in favor of "cash cows." No matter what tack they took, people would have found a reason to not like what they did.

And how are we supposed to realise this? Not everyone knows everyone here or reads every thread that appears. We didn`t get wiith the Patch notes `MadDjinn and others are testing the Patch so don`t blame us for delays`.

Yeah, but the "delays" are all fictional at this point.

oh, they forgot about it. There was a cute cat being alarmed by a flippy squirrel. Somebody should call to remind them. Who knows where they've gotten off to....

Well why didn't they tell us this? Not that I am a hardcore ranter. :mischief: I trust MadDjinn with anything he works on. Good for him and the rest of the team. :)

Because they have done this on Every. Single. Patch. they have developed, tested and released.

Still got 7 more weeks till the end of Fall.

2 Months left?

In my view it`s dumb to announce a Patch with so much details when there`s like 3 months (including the time already waited) we have to wait for release. At that rate, everything could change.

It would`ve been wiser to wait till way closer to the time, like one month or a week. However, I think it will be released way sooner than 2 months.
