Fallout 3

Just because the industry has lowered its standards doesn't mean Ive lowered mine. And twenty five hours? Really? Where is this magical number for games being pulled from, maybe eight hours average at most.

I agree with you, I'm usually the one saying that sentence ("Just because the industry has lowered its standards doesn't mean Ive lowered mine"). Games have become really short. I think maybe they are become to intensely story-driven. Too many cut-scenes, too linear.

It's just... "only 100 hours" is a weird sentence. 100 hours is a lot of time, even when considering games from the 80s and 90s. There are games many hundreds of hours of, but usually they were strategy or sandbox games (Civ) or heavily randomized (Diablo) or multiplayer shooters (Counter-Strike). Story-driven games that I played for 200 hours are rare. I'm not sure I can think of one.

One of the scariest places in the game. Depending on your mood and real-life time of the day when you get there, hehe.

yeah, i played it when it was dark, so i got pretty cautious  but it's no fair to these ghouls when you have the laser rifle from the replicated man + sniper + finesse, one shot kills ftw

on my Final fantasy VIII save i clocked at about 270 hours.

This really upsets me, it is as if we are taught not to think while making one and the same choice.

Morrowind, maybe Fallouts come to mind.

In the story-type games... Yeah, Morrowind had me hooked for more than 100 hours that's for sure. More so than Oblivion. Some console RPGs that I went through multiple times may have had me going over 100 hours too. But yeah, it was multiple playthroughs that were much more redundant than Fallout 3 playthroughs.

Got Fallout 3, played it non-stop for a week now. Must say it's pretty incredible, and I've had great fun so far. (And I'm still no where near finishing the game. I simply love Bethesda's games.) Roaming the Wastes seems to have it's own charm about it.

I'm on my fourth character with one-hundred twenty seven hours overall with all four of them so far, I figure I got a few more builds to try in mind. I'm currently playing a non-armor wearing hand-to-hand character, I got the firelance early, blasted a few Deathclaws, wen to to Scott keys, got the schemo and have been playing with a death claw gauntlet since. Actually, my last character didn't wear armor either, save recon armor, but only because I thought it looked cool, and not for the protection.....I don't think I ever even repaired it.

edit:The power swing with the deathclaw gauntlet is a charge.....just like the deathclaws, its pretty neat.

Just got the Power Fist with my evil meele/unarmed/big guns/explosives evil character build. SHORYUKEN!

That thing has a tendency to take off heads.....

That thing has a tendency to take off heads.....

I punched Alistair Tenpenny so hard with the damn thing his head came off whole, and fell of Tenpenny Tower, while his headless body was dangling precariously over the railings. One of the funniest moments in the game.

The Main quest is kinda meh and I cant get over it.....

Spoiler :
The whole crap in project purity, why did your dad have to do the suicide radiation thing? Why didn't he just let his walking tank of a child kill the Curnal? And better yet, why did you have to escape through the sewers period? Why couldn't you just stay and take care of them yourself and call it a day? The whole time in the sewers was a joke, I was killing all of the enclave and the girl kept saying that we "needed to hurry" I was just waiting for the sarcastic dialogue option to come up saying something like "No.....we don't, we can take our sweet ass time, they're all dead"

Honestly, I would have sacrificed all of the side quests for one really deep involved branching MQ. Like something where you can retake the citadel with the outcasts or something, that would have been cool, the outcasts just seemed to play such a minor role in it all, hopefully they'll have a major part in DLC.

edit:Also to, my current character has all skills at one-hundred because of the skill books and comprehension.......

Some flaws of the game do include the fact that most characters are maxed out in too many things at level 20. It's especially apparent if you do absolutely everything with a character before you start doing the main quest, at which point you're already level 20. I'm not sure they had envisioned the game as being played constantly with only one character, I think they expected more people to just keep restarting with new characters. Personally I did almost explore everything with that level 20 character of mine, the first one I did.

And even more ******** about the ending is how...
Spoiler :
you can't send Fawkes in to do the deed, after all he's a radioactivity-resistant mutant or something, he's like "no, this is your destiny" or some crap. Thanks mate!

For me, the main flaw of the game is how most locations pretty much only have one set of quests. Going back later doesn't do much good. They won't have anything new for you.

I'd still rate the game pretty highly, as I had enormous fun exploring the game world itself. It was one of the best game settings I have experienced in a while.

Oh ya for sure it was awesome

and BTW
Spoiler :
all of your followers say that at the end

I just wish there was more branching in the quests, they were way to short, although they did give quite a few options on all of them. And IMO they could have been deeper, the Oasis quest was the only one where I really questioned what I was going to do, and they even kinda botched that up because
Spoiler :
Harold should have been pissed at you for making him grow faster, but instead you get positive Karma and its all good and everyone happy, that's BS, before I found out he was all happy I was seriously questioning between making him grow faster and doing what he wants and killing him

Small question:

Spoiler :
Harold is that mutant who was in Fallout 1 and 2 also? He's the best character in any game ever! :D What is his role like in Fallout 3?

Spoiler :
You find him in a secluded "Oasis" (apparently the last remnant of "green" in the whole wasteland). The tree on his head grew so much that he's now stuck in it. He's stuck there, has been for very long. There are these neo-druids around him who think he's a god even though he keeps asking them to kill him because he can't stand being there and stuck anymore. But they take his words as some sort of metaphor and never do it. When you come there he asks you to kill him by going underground and destroying his heart. Or you can listen to the neo-druids and help him grow (to help humanity) or stop his growth (to keep the Oasis secret). Basically you can kill him like he wants, or just burn him (he doesn't enjoy that), or listen to one of the druids and change how he grows. He's a side-quest basically. He's responsible for the existence of the Oasis. You can go through the game without ever finding the Oasis. I know I only went there after I finished the game myself. Check the picture below if you want to actually see what he looks like.

Here is a picture that goes with the above spoiler...

They should have left him out, they killed him IMO in the third game, they didnt write or perform his part rite.

Not sure, I have been busy creating a map. I think you can edit it here

Looks like the right kind of thing. Certain small things about the game bug me, like how ammo crates are never found empty, similarly first aid boxes, surely raiders would loot those first!
