Just checked my active threads. Had a good and enjoyable time in CivFanatics and I still could't get access to Apolyton for the past 2 hours.

That is a very big :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: to Thunderfall and the rest of the people supporting us. And a pity for the Apolyton crew, I saw a number of items they learned from us and where they made a full reference to Civ Fanatics!

Havin' a good time here.

I like both sites - though a lot gets posted on both, there are nuggets of info on one that slip through the net on the other.

Having said that, I can always get on to this forum and it's nice and fast, whereas the Apolyton one is quite hard to get onto around now (I'm in Ireland so it's 11:30 p.m. here, but obviously it's the lunchtime Americans that are clogging up Apolyton :) )

Thats my point on the sites Clnel.

I am spending my off-duty evening hours here. Wonder what the Amercans are doing 9 to 5

im with rmsharpe,i went to apolyton once,it sucked...........CIVFANATICS 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!:crazyeyes

I spend more time at Civfanatics for two reasons:
1. I only started bothering trying to find civ sites a few weeks ago, and Civfanatics was the first major one I found.
2. The forums actually work consistently.

I usually check both sites since you both seem to get tidbits that the other didn't.

One of my major problems with Apolyton is the sheer number of uncontrolled flame warriors there. Often a good discussion will go bad when Yin26 posts (despite what I would expect it's not usually his fault...well not his fault that it starts anyway :nuke: ) and some other jerk (in a recent prime example a MarkG) comes in and persistently and belligerantly provokes him. I actually managed to calm that one with an unsuspectingly diffusing post with an odd off-topic question (small miracle really). This highlights a point about all established instutitutions: As they age and grow they also become corrupt (using a broad meaning) and obsessed with the status quo and enter a decline. Apolyton seems to be near that point. Civfanatics will be too some day:cry: . If you are looking for historical examples: The Roman Empire; The Holy Roman Empire; Austria Hungary; The American Political System;...

Often people have complained about the sheer magnitude of the forums at the Apolyton CS, but now, compared with CivFanatics, the sizes are nearly parallel; we are the sole nexuses of the Civilization community. Even with the renewal of interest with the (disappointing) release of Civilization III, I doubt that there will be anymore.

At present, I am playing is Sid Meier's Colonization, it's the early 18th century and my two colonies have just declared independence from the Stadtholder...

actually, I think that this forum is too busy, specifically the Off Topic forum. I have suggested many times that we split it into a Current Events and an Off Topic forums, but Thunderfall say that is not nesscacary...

*cough* *cough*

The OT has split twice, into the World History, and Peanut Gallery.

Go to Apolyton OT (When it's unlocked) and see how busy it is....no wonder everyone called you Whinemore .....

we're not goign to split the friggin OT forum cause you say its 'too busy'
Its because people post the same topic sometimes twice a day or more.
They're talking about the server not the forums themselves.
Just take the time to click the page button to look back at topics you missed....
i vote CFC :)
Apolyton who? :goodjob:
great server you put in TF!

I registered at Apolyton before I registered here, but hardly go there anymore. It seems so clique-y to me. Well, maybe noe clique-y, but I'm afraid to try and post there because I'm afraid I'm going to break up someone's conversation or something.

Anyway, CFC is much better. :egypt:

I like both Civfanatics and Apolyton.
Apolyton gets more traffic, and as a result is generally more entertaining (when it loads ;) ), but civfanatics is a lot quicker and more co-operative with hosting scenarios and stuff, and its forums are definetly catching up to Apolyton's

yes we do have more stuff than apolyton.
we also host all scenarios and put the preview on the front page ;) gotta give them puublisciititytyeity
publicity :)

I voted other, because I'm not even regitered at Apolyton. When I first started looking for Civ sites way back when, I found Apolyton first, but couldn't find a way to break in, so to speak. I found CFC soon thereafter, and have been here since. Occasionaly someone will post a link to an Apolyton thread that I'll read, but I rarely get through the entire thread. Besides, I don't have time to keep up with CFC anymore, when would I find time to read the same stuff someplace else :D

Keep up the great work, Thunderfall and all the moderators. Yes, its' true, this site is at least as addictive as Civ itself!

i remember when we cheered when we got like 30 people online on the forum at the same time

now there's like 300 people online all the time...

i don't like fanatics anymore.. it's freaking huge..
