Been doing some testing to get a feel for the leader setups because I am a geek. Just had one of the silliest endings to a game involving the game 2 leaders which would probably cause a riot in the twitch chat if it happens in the real game.
To set the scene:
- Down to the final two leaders, Ghenghis Khan and Catherine.
- GK is bigger with 37 cities compared to Catherine who is on 25 cities.
- GK is over the domination land limit by 2% but short of the population limit by 4%. Most cities are mature and Catherine has more Future Tech so the population percentages are unlikely to change much.
- Catherine has been marginally ahead in tech the whole game and manages to beat GK to launching a spaceship.
- Catherine's spaceship is due to land in 3 turns. Her capital is safely in her interior and her power is close enough to GK that it would probably take a while before border cities start to fall. GK is not plotting in any case so it looks like Catherine has got the win in the bag after 3 turns. All she needs to do is just chill....
Instead, Catherine decides in her infinite wisdom that this would be a great time to launch a final war against GK even though he is slightly ahead in power and has nukes. During the first turn of the war GK nukes a bunch of Catherine's cities which decimates the population in those cities. Without any cities actually changing hands, GK's population ends up exactly reaching the domination population limit and GK gets the domination victory.
First time I have seen nukes literally win the game.
@Fippy What price will the casino offer for that outcome in game 2?
@Eauxps I. Fourgott Interesting write up of your thoughts. What made you let Alex go for only 31g when you said that he was your no. 1 priority and you were going to bid up to 50g for him? You ended up with the biggest team so it can't all be bad
