Fast MGE Succession #3

Good work Viking

Though you are demanding tribute too often from the Persians -they can't produce THAT much in 1 turn.

You may have disagreed with one or two of my production choices but the state I left the empire was one in which any direction could have been taken quickly with...nice of you to leave the next ruler some money!

And thanks for Chaosikat! I'll love that city...

Sometimes the AI civs don't give you all of their $$ in one turn so I was just checking to see if they had any more cash left they were willing to give to me. I was not afraid if they reacted by declaring war.

I've sometimes had amazing luck demanding tribute. In one of my most memorable games I got almost 15,000 gold in tribute over a few dozen turns which I then used to knock down a big Babylonian empire in one turn using tanks and spies.

There are now more than 3 days since I sent the game to xeven_god_of_helsibahr and it seems he has not finished (unless he has already sent the game to Alanna without announcing it here).

So I'm sending the game to Alanna (who's next after xeven_god_of_helsibahr) so Alanna can continue unless xeven_god_of_helsibahr finishes this very quickly.

I also sent the game to Belisarius who earlier in this thread wrote "If you could all send me a copy off the save game at the same time you pass it on to the next player it will make it easier to keep the game flowing".

Any opinions on this ?

TheViking

Yes the 3 days are up so time to pass the game to Allana. Xeven can join in again next round. Thanks to TheViking for sending me a copy of the game. Real life can sometimes make it difficult to find time so it is best to just pass the game on and hope you have time when it comes arround again.

that jerk xeven has posted loads recently and i've been chasing him...

Lets kick his **** and bring in civ as he is interested...

I received the game from TheViking, and should be able to play my next 15 turns tomorrow evening. I have to finish up GOTM #5 tonight!

It's getting late, but the crown of the Great Kingdom of CivFanatics has been emailed to Belisarius. Here is a short history of the last 375 years of the CivFanatics civilization:

875BC: Great Pharaoh Alanna takes the reins of the Kingdom of CivFanatics and proclaims it to be good.

1-850BC: Barb Archer kills Persian Warrior, Settlers continue SE, Phalanx moves toward hill (35,17). Persians build Susa near hill (35,17) and demand we remove our Chariot. The Chariot is still a little beat up, so I withdraw it until the Phalanx gets to the hill. OOOPS!
eek.gif
Our Horseman also gets withdrawn from the Mountain next to Pasargade.
rolleyes.gif

2-825BC: I should have gone to war. Phalanx continues to move toward (35,17)! Chariot and two Horsemen set out from Cornmaster to level Pasargade. The Barb Archer is killed by an attacking Persian Warrior. BARBARIAN LEADER ON THE LOOSE!
pimp.gif

3-800BC: Phalanx throws caution to the wind and attacks the Barb Leader at 1/3 strength. 50 gold!

4-775: Unrest in the city of Cornmaster. Synchronicity builds a Barracks and changes production to Chariots to sweep the Persians from this continent! there are now 200,000 CivFanatics. Demographics show us as #1 across the board, except for 5th for Military Service. Our Phalanx occupies hill (35,17). This is sure to provoke the Persians. Klondike completes a Trireme and starts building Settlers. This map is very long East to West. The poles will be highways for exploration.

5-750: Currency is discovered and the study of Writing is taken up. I send an Emissary to the Persians and demand tribute. What do you know! We're now at war! time to attack Pasargade. OOOPS! A Phalanx defending Pasargade kills one of our Horsemen and a Chariot. The CivFanatic generals just shake their heads.
shakehead_ron.gif
Our Phalanx on hill (35,17) kills an attacking Persian Warrior.

6-725: Chaosikat completes a Trireme and starts building a Horseman to be carried on far off expeditions. The Carthage civilization is destroyed by the Romans. (No parallels there!)

7-700: The CivFanatic Generals stop shaking their heads and start calling for Great Pharaoh Alanna's head as another (v)Horseman is killed by a Persian Phalanx that moved out of Pasargade. Synchronicity completes a Chariot and starts on a Phalanx.

8-675BC: We are the largest civilization. The Persians are 5th.

9-650: City of Gwynn is founded by unhappy people. Need to build a Warrior to pacify them. Another Persian Warrior throws himself upon the pikes of our Phalanx on hill (35,17). The Romans undertake a great project to build the Hanging Gardens.

10-625: A Chariot kills a Persian Warrior near Pasargade.

11-600: Synchronicity builds a Phalanx, and more are ordered. City of Ripken is founded and starts building a Warrior.

12-575: CivRules!! builds Settlers, the City of Independence is founded by unhappy people, and the Warrior unit in Gwynn is rush built to get the population back to work.

13-550: Cornmaster builds Settlers, the Warrior in Independence is rush built, and the population of Gwynn is ordered back into the fields from the local theater.

14-525: Chaosikat completes a Horseman unit and starts building Warriors to free up the Horseman and Chariot from garrison duty.

15-500BC: 2 Persian Phalanxes are approaching Synchronicity. Please attack us! A fortified (v)Phalanx and Warrior should hold them off.

A Settler is heading for (12,28) to build another city with 2 whales and 1 fish resource. Our Power is Supreme and our Reputation is Spotless. The top 5 cities don't list any of ours, but #5 is Utica of the Barbarian civilization!
biggrin.gif
We should discover Writing next turn.

Great Pharaoh Alanna decides that 375 years is a long enough reign for tonight, realizes she has a headache, and walks out of the Throne Room to find a Royal Pillow!

I'll be out of town from Friday morning until Monday night. If my turn comes around again before I'm back, just skip me and I'll play my turn later.

------------------
It's not an Aggressive, Expansionist, Militaristic attitude...it's Manifest Destiny!

Here is a quick history as I am away from my normal computer at the moment.

500BC Have 270,000 people in 9 cities. Armed forces of 2 Triremes, 3 Chariots, 1 Horsemen, 3 Phalanx, 7 Warriors and 2 Settlers. We also have 247 gold and 11 Science. Persian Phalanx attacks Synchronicity and dies.

475BC Discover Writing.

450BC Chariot destroys Persian Phalanx near Synchronicity.

425BC Complete Diplomat at Synchronicity.

400BC Zulus start Hanging Gardens.

375BC Diplomat needs 219 gold to bribe Pasargadae but only has 217 gold. City of Ayut founded.

350BC Diplomat finally bribes Pasargadae (2) for 222 gold and gained 56gold and Settler, Phalanx and Warrior. We accept 100 gold from Persians to make peace.

325BC Start building Oracle at Synchronicity.

300BC Use Elvis to control Happiness problems.

275BC Discover Literacy. Research Philosophy. Now 410,000 Population

250BC Withdraw Phalanx to Pasargadae to keep treaty with Persians.

225BC Persians refuse tribute.

200BC Start building some Temples.

175BC Diplomat arrives at Susa which will revolt for 531 gold. We do not have enough gold.

150BC Find wandering nomads. Romans complete Hanging Gardens. Zulus switch to Colossos.

125BC We now have 12 cities, 540,000 people, 145 gold and 13 science and are researching Philosophy. We also have 1 Diplomat, 3 Triremes, 3 Chariots, 1 Horsemen, 6 Phalanx, 20 Warriors and 4 Settlers. We are currently at peace with Persians. Synchronicity is building the Oracle.

Chaosikate was a beautiful 23 year old girl when she came to power my way of her marriage to the late
king.gif
who died tragically soon after the marriage -well when they were cutting the cake, when she slipped.

As grand ruler she was accepted only as a descendant of kitten...who brought peace after the first Persian Wars
hammer.gif

Her advisers informed her that the nation was happy and everyone was fed well. The treasury was filled with 145 gold and tech flowed.

Yet somehow she knew that things weren't as good as they could be...average life expectancy is only 25 years and disease is rife!

All she knew was that everywhere else was worse, with the exception of Rome whose Hanging Gardens made it a marvel! Chaosikate would try to equal this.

125 B.C Tragic start to Chaosikate's rule...she tours the lands and allocates production to her liking.

100 B.C (1) Kate (for short) demands tribute from the belly dancing Persians...25 gold gained!

Deciding that the Persians have no technology to give she is furious and decides to conquer these people, the army is mobilised!

An embassy is founded with the Persians...they do have tech...how dare they hold it from us! WAR IS A MUST!
hammer.gif

Exploration in the very oddly scaled world (CORNMASTER, the north-south pole distance is tiny!)...

75 B.C (2) lots of temples were rush built for this period!...much relocation of resources...the army continues towards Susa...we will murder them all admist laughter and merriment! 4 chariot units line up near Susa...Kate washes her hands by leaving the decision to god...will the Persians demand our withdrawal????

50 B.C (3) philosophy discovered..glory to the Chaosikate as science booms in her reign and Trade follows on from the musing of men with beards longer than their willies! Polytheism is researched -knowing we will learn it from the Persians soon...and then we can head for something TRUELY great.

The settlers in the east meet Romans...we learn iron working (legions), warrior code and something else in return for some of our tech...trade/literacy and something. Our races gain to the detriment of our enemies! Kate has a party to celebrate the massive tech boom in her reign, she will be remembered as the greatest leader!

avatar.gif

The army prepares to assault Susa...the Persians move a phalanx to protect their settlers...hehe!

25 B.C (4) more settlers...etc

The persians DEMAND our withdrawal from around Susa...little do they know! The Persians are told to give tribute and they declare war enraged beyond endurance...Kate smiles!

The Kate leads her veteran chariots into Susa...they kill a unit of Phalanx and the city lies open...the phalanx and the settlers outside the city limits starves when Susa falls! The booty is polytheism and 18 gold...hehe.

The chariots move towards the capital...the persians ask for peace...the kate refuses...and regrets it as the Persian capital has walls!

Elephants are now being harnessed for war...teams of diplomats are commisioned to bring down the walls -but it may be worth taking them!

Barracks in Susa sold for 40 gold...in case they retake it!

Barracks in Synchronicity sold...Kate needs the money for war!

A scroll found in the east tells of Mathematics...Kate's settlers thank the Kate -no god- that it wasn't barbarians!

A.D 1 (5) Kate decides to research Monotheism...and cancels the war plans...when we have religious Zealots THEN we can take the Persians out.

A persian settler is killed brutally near Persepolis...exploration continues elsewhere as does road construction.

A.D 20 (6) Kate plans to bypass Persepolis using the navy...until the diplomats tell that Persepolis is all the Persians have...Kate laughs!

Peace is made with Persia...no chance of beating those walls...YET!

Wales founded in the East...a land of hills and coal and bugger all else. The citizens are angry and red about being made Welsh...in particular eyesOFnight starts *****ing and is turned into elvis.
nya2.gif

The mongols land next to Civfanatics...an elephant unit...and later a horseman which attacks Civfanatics and dies after Kate demanded tribute on finding they don't swap tech...this is widely considered a bad move
smile.gif

A.D 40 (7) a veteran warrior dies attacking the elephant and dies...Kate rushes troops on the roads from Chaosikat and Cornmaster!

A green tribe horseman unit coming from the south pole...new people to demand tribute from
smile.gif

We gain Feudalism for polytheism! tribute demanded but none comes...we need more POWER!

A trireme lost at sea -oops...but it was a bold attempt to travel west! Damn silly Columbus said the world was round...look at him now!

A.D 60 (8) another warrior dies...a horseman unit kills the elephant of mongolia!

War with Rome for some reason...

A.D 80 (9) Mongols want tribute...we tell them to ask the Persians...they get mad.

A.D 100 (10) Ulundi builds the Great Library...how dare they says Kate as we eats an orange.

A.D 120 (11) we land near Antium...on a mountain...noone attacks the mighty settlers

A.D 140 (12) The army is at home and the land is at peace.

War with everyone except Persia...Kate demands too much as per usual as another male consort is exhausted servicing her needs.

By using warriors for construction work and disbanding a barracks the money is found for the completion of the Pyramid wonder!

A.D 160 (13) So the Pyramids completed...settlers near Veii landed on a island it is hoped. This may provide a base to launch raids into the Roman empire!

A.D 180 (14) A wine caravan is constructed...and would be well recieved anywhere!...though it will probably be best smuggled to Karakorum! More temples built...yawn.

The city of Azbeen founded in honour of a great civfanatic called Az!

Stormeville founded on the west coast of our great continent...huge waves batter the city and EXTREMELY ANGRY AND BLACK people -well, must be Turk- get turned into Elvis.

A.D 200 (15) GREAT NEWS...Klondyke attacked by Zulus...many die! kate laughs as she remembers kitten hating this city!

Thunderon Rocks founded in the fall east near the Roman lands...a city named after the great civfanatic Thunderfall...from here diplomats can easily enter the Roman empire!

Kate decides to retire...exhausted by her latest consort called Viking...HE shall rule hereafter.

BUT before she left she went to the Romans and got peace and 200 gold...not bad for such a small war.

The Persians pay 25 gold...

The rest of the world continues the war...

Kate leaves office then leaving:

1. Klondyke will fall...BUT this provides an excellent place to steal Zulu tech from with a diplomat and then an invasion! (get an embassy too!). This way we will gain alot out of a crap city!

2. Use the far east trireme to help pacify Thunderon Rocks...it will be though.

3. We will soon have monotheism...that will be wonderfull as unhappiness is a real problem despite my massive temple building.

4. Life expectancy is up 15 years by the actions I took in my reign and disease is halved!

5. The treasury is a massive 117 gold (rush built a few things)

6. Wait till we get monotheism b4 you start war with persia...vetern crusaders can take Persepolis WITH its walls...what a prise!

7. Our demographics put us top in everything except military service and 2nd in approval rating...

8. Take care...our enemies are landing troops...

9. We have now 740,000 people...but they live for a decent time! and have huge families too! hehe!

10. Kate obtained more tech in her reign than any other leader...and she completed our first carvans and wonder! RESPECT

Go get em Viking!

Be quick people...I'd like one more go
smile.gif
I am leaving Monday for field mapping trip in Spain (5 weeks).

I'm going on a vacation tomorrow and will return on July 13 so I had to play this in a hurry and therefore possibly not optimally. This means I may have to skip a turn next week. I decided to concentrate on infrastructure (didn't build any new cities) and wonder building (Mike) and also had to deal with some dangerous Mongol attacks and Barbarians.

Viking 2 is in power, a descendant of the great Viking that was in power centuries ago. His first task is to replace the civfanatic academy of sciences after one of the scientists tries to convince him that he can't be Viking 2 since Viking 2 actually was a US spacecraft that landed on Mars in 1976 AD. Obviously this can't be true, there's no such thing as Mars (astronomy has not been invented), 1976 AD hasn't arrived and what the #$%* is this "US" thing ?? Also strict birth controls are instituted since the new citizens of the empire are to consist of the descendant of his great ancestor - there is a lot them as had been promised.

Looking at the empire Viking 2 isn't unhappy - it has grown a lot since his great ancestor's glory days.

200 AD (0): Minor adjustment to production in some cities.
220 AD (1): "My palace SUCKS !!!!! It's completely empty ! At least get me a chair !". And a small chair he gets. Zulus take Klondyke (arrghhh !! - it was not a bad city - lots of trade) and take philosphy. Gwynn builds city walls, barracks are next. Susa builds temple, ordered to build a diplomat (Viking 2 is turning his greedy eyes towards Persepolis). Civil disorder in CivRules!!
240 AD (2): "My chair SUCKS !!!!!! Get me a better and bigger one !". And a better and bigger chair he gets. Order restored in CivRules!! Got 25 gold in tribute from the Persians.
260 AD (3): Cornmaster builds a caravan. Persians refuse to pay tribute. Chaosikat builds settlers.
280 AD (4): Mongols appear at poorly defended CivFanatics.com and we're at war with them !! Talk to them, pay 50 in tribute for peace (this is going to cost the Mongols something when Viking 3, 4 or 5 comes to power ). They withdraw their troops in response to demands. Start building a suitable welcoming committee (a catapult) in CivFanatics.com. Made peace with Zulus after both parties refused to pay tribute. Elvis is in Cornmaster.
300 AD (5): Asyut builds settlers.
320 AD (6): Independence builds settlers. Unrest in CivRules!!
340 AD (7): Abydos builds settlers, ordered to build a diplomat. Elvis necessary in Synchronicity, running a negative food balance to speed up wonder building. Persians pay 50 gold in tribute, now they only have 1 (!) gold left.
360 AD (8): Romans sneak attack and kill a horseman. Mongol trireme spotted west of Stormeville, rush buy a pikeman (the city was undefended).
380 AD (9): English civilization destroyed by Zulus. Ripken builds settlers. Barbarians dangerously close to Asyut, sell Gwynn city walls and rush build an elephant in Asyut.
400 AD (10): Mongols build colossus. Gwynn and Pasargadae need an Elvis. Viking 2 gets tired of Pasargadae's whining and renames the city "Elvis P" in hope of silencing them. Asyut's elephant kills a barbarian chariot.
420 AD (11): Made Peace with the Romans.
440 AD (12): Mongols start their Lighthouse project. We discover monotheism !!!! . At last !!!! Synchronicity swithces its wonder building efforts to Michelangelo's Chapel. Start researching republic, set taxes to maximum to speed up wonder building and deal with some emergencies (increasingly dangerous Mongols). Rush buy crusader in Abydos.
460 AD (13): Two caravans help build Mike. Time to teach the Mongols some manners, talks to them lead to war and revenge !! Our newly built crusader kills a Mongol elephant SW of CivRules!! and becomes veteran.
480 AD (14): Susa and Independence build diplomats. Mongol settler killed by the mightiest unit on the planet (our crusader) near CivRules!!. Mongols refuse to talk.
500 AD (15): Consolidate the empire, change production in a city or two. Chase a barbarian leader east of Asyut.

Suddenly Viking 2 disappears. It is rumored that he went away on an infinitely long vacation. He left his successors a more advanced empire than when he started. The population has grown from 740,000 to 1,010,000, meaning there were 270,000 descendants of his great ancestor.

Some observations for my successors:

The Mongols appear regularly on triremes coming from the west so they are probably not very far away. These invasions are a big nuisance and can be extremely dangerous. Had they refused to talk instead of accepting my tribute they could have conquered CivFanatics.com, reducing it down to size 1 in the process. These invasions are the reason several cities on the west coast are building crusaders - Mongol elephants must be killed on their arrival.

It will soon become possible to conquer Persepolis using combined crusader/diplomat attacks. This may completely destroy the city.

Soon we'll build Michelangelo's chapel (AFAIK no other civ is building it) and all happiness problems will disappear. This will make a republic (once we discover it) possible and some WLTP days.

Game sent on to Civ and a copy also sent to Belisarius.

Have fun,
TheViking

I received an error when attempting to send the game to Civ (qiedrius.siaulys@uosis.mif.vu.lt), apparently the user qiedrius.siaulys does not exist at uosis.mif.vu.lt ??

But Belisarius also has a copy of the game so this problem should get sorted out somehow - I'm leaving for a vacation in a few hours.

You know, you should build a Thevik City(The viking city) and a St. Xeven's
smile.gif
. That would be cool, and it would increase the size of your empire.

Btw, you CAN upload your saves...

Well...did you do as advised with the zulus once they took klondyke -whose corruption made it suck.

Get an embasssy with them, steal a tech and the take it back -for another tech (the embassy will tell you when they have techs to take).

You guys are having a great (and speedy) game so far! Keep at 'em!

Perhaps when our current classic game and your current MGE game are finished, both of our "teams" could play the same map at the same time. This is something we tried in the very beginning, and it was quite fun -- until the MGE team just sorta died off.

Well, hope you all kick some civ butt, and feel free to comment in our Classic #4 thread as well!

I'd love to take you up on that offer...but I'll be away for 5 weeks from Monday Kev.

But it'd be well worth doing! I really enjoyed your game write ups and certainly have enjoyed this succession game despite the north and south pole being too close and the mongols being so aggressive!
