I mean if you go for a fastest time ever then that's the same as rerolling a map until you get the perfect one, basically.

I don't know how much you're allowed to exploit the game though. Like you could get unique luxuries for "love the king day" and declare war on an AI who's far. Or you could save and reload to get 100% success for coups in city-states. Or you could like park a worker in a ressource and pillage/sell it every couple turns. Stealing 5-6 workers from the AI is already pretty cheesy but I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT THE GAME WILL LET ME DO haha

I do think it's possible to get like turn 220 going blind on almost every map with any civ though at this point, just from playing well...

Anyway this is pretty fun to me.

The general consensus for how much exploiting is too much seems to be if it is banned in HoF attempts, so worker stealing is fine, dow for free WLTKD is fine, repeatedly trading luxes is not etc.

Ok I see, and what's the policy on reloading maps / autosaves?
Honestly it all seems impossible to police unless they just released an official fixed version of the game that everyone had to use.

How could you know if I was just reselling luxuries or reloading to do city-state coups?

I'm kind of tempted to see how fast I can do it exploiting everything I can think of lol. Selling luxuries... that's what.. like 300 free gold per turn? You'd get all buildings so fast everywhere and all city-states... oh wait that's called "settler" difficulty

Anyway, I think you could have shaved a few turns off if the last city was founded on the coast and sent a cargo to the capital? I hate settling on wheat, but that was such a perfect space for "Panama canal."

Hm yeah maybe, I rarely get coastal capital so I never think to consider cargo ships...

Thanks for posting this map! This is a great one to try out >4 cities. It's crazy comparing with Babinski's GP map, where AI was upset I settled 4, whereas on this one I went 4-city NC + 2 more and nobody is upset!

I've seen a few people post write-ups where they used Rationalism finisher for Plastics instead of a GS; I normally use it for Nanotech. Ignoring RA's, is there any advantage?

I just have 'complete' Civ v, or whatever it's called, with everything left as is.

Hm, I have everything, as well. Maybe my game is bugged or something. And I think that Steam Mods get downloaded automatically anyway.

I'm trying to think of ways to incorporate early conquest into a fast SV. I think the Huns, Egypt, Babylon and Spain are the best candidates for this. Currently playing a test game with a Babylon 4-city Liberty bowman rush, and it seems to be pretty effective. Bowmen don't really have to be upgraded to CBs, which saves a lot of gold, plus you can attack earlier. In my test game I took 2 capitals by early T70s. Venice only had a Library in it, but Rio had GL, ToA and MoH, as well as a Granary, Watermill and a Shrine.

Diplo has been really odd. I eliminated Venice and backstabbed Brazil, but somehow I still have 3 DoFs, and I actually just renewed one. Marrakech is really juicy with Petra, HG, CI, Alhambra and 2 unique luxuries, so that's the next target. Would be sweet if he got Notre Dame as well.

I missed Oracle, my population isn't great even for a liberty game, I have terrible faith output, only one mountain city and I can barely manage a positive gpt during a golden age. Still, Education @T98 with the obligatory Engineering detour is good enough to convince me that early conquest can be viable for a fast SV, at least on Great Plains maps.

I wonder how this game plays out. Pedro had crossbows on turn 83 and Ahmad seems to be running away. A multiple-DoW right now would destroy me. Pretty exciting.

    Nah, I got crushed.
I needed about 8 more turns to get my first wave of crossbows out. I didn't enough gold/resources to bribe the AIs to keep them busy. I think having someone easy to bribe like Shaka would've been really helpful, so that I could just do my own thing while he's killing everyone. Befriending Shaka would be really good. Sniping the cities he's damaging would be ideal.

Anyway, I feel like 3-4 city Liberty + 2 capitals with CB/Bowmen/chariots + 2 capitals with XB could be really strong on this map. What I'm not sure about is whether it's a good play to use a Liberty GE for NC or not. An academy seems more beneficial in the long run.

Conquering for a fast SV seems insanely luck reliant. For it to work, the neighbors must have tall, poorly defended with a decent wonders. You also have to get lucky with what buildings are destroyed. To a peaceful player like me, it seems mostly worse than playing Austria or settling 6-7 cities without the aforementioned luck.

Ok so I rolled this map last night for Spain.

It's possible to discover El Dorado and Cero de Potosso and also work Mount Kilimanjaro.
So you can start with 1500 extra gold and work 3 wonders, but 2 of them are kind of crap and none give faith, which is sort of bad. The terrain is also somewhat poor and cities are far apart.

    But... 1500 bonus gold.
I tried once with tradition, once with liberty, 5 cities both times, couldn't get better than turn 100 education anyway, just like any pretty average game. This is kind of blowing my mind lol, what am I doing wrong? Or is it that basically 100% of the finesse in fast science comes after education, where you need ultra good terrain to grow giant cities?

I dunno. Someone good should try this, I'm sure you can get something awesome done from starting with 3 free settlers.

To fully use benefit of three 'free' settlers you need good land to settle them, otherwise you'll end quite quickly in less pops than on great land without them.

Well I tried a 3rd time, but ignoring the bad wonders and just settling 4 cities somewhat close, on luxuries when possible. It did work pretty well to counter unhappiness but even settling 3 cities on gems was barely enough because the AI took too long to hook up their luxuries to trade.

Pretty funny to have 4 cities down by turn 25 though. National college turn 77, astronomy turn 103, radio turn 150, plastics turn 172 ( without using scientist ). We'll see how this ends up, but now my cities feel crappy so maybe the gravy train is over as it feels like I'm falling behind.

edit: yeah turn 190 still like 5-6 techs away from rocketry. Just feels like the terrain wasn't good, my cities are mostly just working jungles and grasslands and not getting buildings out or generating enough gold/faith to get anywhere. Sadness. IT SEEMED SO PROMISING

So I won my first deity game thanks to this thread.

    Finished T268 which compared to Babinsky - almost 100 turns slower/science 1000pt less :/

So posting my finish in the hope that I can get advice to improve. I think it's more my mid-end game.

So I guess my cities are still on the small side for this turn (I did end up deleting workers towards the end).

Theodora & Pedro declared war on me around T210 which lasted for around 50 turns - therefore some time was spent building units. Almost had Maria too but managed to bribe to fight Theo.

I finished all social policies in freedom around T230 and then went into commerce. caravans I changed from food to gold T240 onwards to buy some spaceship parts. I did no loans.

I know I haven't provided much detail but any help or info you need to help me more, would be appreciated.

T268 is really fast for a first diety victory. Congratulations!

You probably want to get mercantilism earlier. If you get Oracle, you can usually get mercantilism before education (as poland)
What turn are you getting the benchmark (nc, edu, st, etc.) techs and what are your pop sizes at those techs?
Your endgame science looks a bit small. Are you working all your specialist slots for the science from secularism?
Are you bulbing your GSes "carefully?" The beaker overflow is capped at 5 turns of research which means thag if you bulb a 1/2 turn tech, you'll waste some beakers.
Lastly, when did you complete Hubble? Seeing as you have 2 turns until another GS, if you compled Hubble 10 turns before victory, you could have naturally generated another GS.
