Favorite AI sayings...

i never seem to be able to demand tribute, when can u do this?when u have the UN u can never demand tribute, that is so annoying

i hate it when an ai is in your land and u want them out and u contact them, they say they r too busy to response. the ai can demand u to leave, why can't we.

If you get your status with them up, then you should have no problem. Or if you have nukes, I find they crack more often. Also, if the AI don't respond (I find this rare) either attack the unit (my personal fave) or wait till the next turn. They normally recieve you then.:D

I'm doing this off the top of my head...someone please correct me if I don't get this quite right...

You can't demand tribute when you are at war
You can't demand tribute when you are allied (but you can request a gift ;) )
You can't demand tribute when you are in a representative government (republic, democracy)

I have demanded tribute, and got it, under a Democracy! The at war one is true. I don't think you can under Anarchy, though, but don't quote me to it.:crazyeye:

I've never been able to demand tribute under Republic/Democracy...how is that done? What I have been able to do with the help of the UN is turn down a peace offer, after which the enemy offers tribute in exchange for a cease-fire.

I get so annoyed by these AI "sayings" that I'm considering making a "polite" game.txt. One would never hear these responses in reality! Of course, the entertainment value may make it worth keeping. Having a final AI city surrounded by tanks and after being attacked by one musketeer after another, then being told that they will "rid the world of your worthless civilization" is too much.

I'd love to put in my own sayings. Something along the lines of "you may as well give up now, you worthless maggots" or "resistance is futile":borg:

I think that the Sayings by Katherine the Great of Russia in Civ 3 are the best.. "have you come to admire my ultimate beauty?" or something like that.... man shes ugly!

Here's one I saw:

In a scenario I made My units attackeda city and destroyed it. However, there was 1 unit left, a TRIREME! I attacked it and the message I got was: So-And-So ships catch So-And-Other ships in port. HAHAHAHEHEHEHOHOHO!! I'd hardly call thet a port! More like the MIDDLE of the GRASSLAND!

Spies report: Barbarians discover alphabet
Top 5 cities: #1 Washington, Barbarian
is it just me or are the americans always getting trashed by the barbarians in your games too?
When i used to watch animated heralds i liked the saying... SOandSO views your empire as a minor province and will suffer your continued independece for X gold.

oh wait, another i like:
spies report: XX government has been overthrown, sneak attack by XX!

This message was so strange that I have to post a screen shot. By the way I was democratic at the time and allied with the babylonians. I was short of cash and asked them for a gift. This is their answer:

Hunh? You actually managed to GET a gift off the AI? How can tha t be? I can never get them to give me one.

I had beaten the indians down to thier last city, fortified with thier last unit, protecting thier last citizen. And the begged me to cease fire, i responded with a resounding "NO" and they came back, begging harder and offering me all that was in thier treasury( like 200G) I felt so bad for them i agreed to spare them. Then on the indians turn the measely little musketeer attacked my Armor and defeated it!
Then another representative of the indians contacted me imediately on the beginning of my turn to address me as th treacherous leader of the infadels and demanded i remove my units from his territory! I accidentally agreed and my units were sent to the nearest home city. Well that was it I sent a Nuke to take out what ever was left of the little city and then surrounded the remaining squares with diplomats. With only one citizen and no land squares available to work, the Indians still live, if you can call that living.:D

I pooped on Mongolias face. They asked me what i was eating before i pooped. The answer, i ate poop before! Its always quicker when the digesting is done for you :) :)

Yes..... how incredibly funny you are. Please don't spam up these forums. We are called Civ fanatics because we care about the game, not because we gather to swap inanities about it.

 Good one! Try reading my one city challenge thread in Stories and Tales. I doubt that I'd have won if it hadn't been for all the gifts I begged from the other civs. :D

I have demanded tribute, and got it, under a Democracy!

Now that I have to see.... Post the .save and state the version of Civ you use, LOL... Hint: it did not happen ;), since that is not in the computer code.

You may have been in Democracy, and declared a Revolution, but your government was not in Democracy at teh instant you made the demand. Here is the maximum number of diplomacy options open to a democracy:

You might even be thinking of "insist you withdraw...", but again, demanding tribute is not possible under Democracy without recompiling the source code. :)

On topic, one of my favorites is the solemn "Our words are backed with NUCLEAR weapons!". LOL, Let 'em fly, AI... your human master is ready for you!

"Very well, since you have shown proper respect we may be willing to grant you a cease fire."

Such arrogant AI's, don't they realize I'm just giving 'em tech so they can develop on it so I don't have to and they when they get something new I just knock off a city and take it without the hassle of research.

One that always makes me laugh is "Our people grow jealous of your civilization! Only the technology of Alphabet will appease them!" or something like that.
