Favorite Civ and why?

Rhye's is what has made me want to visit The Netherlands.

You know, me too (just went there last year)! Amazing dikes. especially the seawall that if broken would flood 1/4 of the Netherlands. Per wikipedia:

The last major flood in the Netherlands took place in early February 1953, when a huge storm caused the collapse of several dikes in the southwest of the Netherlands. More than 1,800 people drowned in the ensuing inundations. The Dutch government subsequently decided on a large-scale programme of public works (the "Delta Works") to protect the country against future flooding.

Rome. I just love trying to build up a historical roman empire, and then spending all of the middle ages trying to reconquer it.

China. Nothing illustrates everything Civ4 and RFC stand for better than China
1. Oldest surviving civilization. If you want the best intro movie about same ancient civilization going from humble sttlers to the Space -- China is the only vivid illustration.
2. Empire greater than Rome in size and comparable in organization, infrastructure and unity (remember Qin Shi Huang's "one size for a chariot's axis, one way to write a hieroglyph")
3. Spirituality like in India, but of a very practic form, lots of time three different religions (Daoism, Confucianism and Buddism) practiced together complimenting each other
4. Culture comparible to Egyptian, with Qin Shi Huang burial palace comparable with Pyramids.
5. Wonder Building, with the Great Wall being the only manmade object visible from space.
6. Warfare with the size of ancient armies possible for the Europe only in XIX century.
7. Science: "four great inventions of Ancient China": paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing. All the are techs in Civ4, too bad UHV does not require them...

The Great Wall isn't really visible from space; that's just a myth. It's far too narrow to be distinguishable.

Just got back to playing this mod and my favorite civ is now Spain, due to having such a large area to colonize and sets me up for pretty much any victory. My old favorite civ from vanila was Greece but its much harder for them now with Babylon and independent civs replacing all the barb cities.

I only got vanilla, but my favorite RFC civ is Spain. I have all the real Spanish Empire in a game I'm playing (OK, I'm missing parts of South America, the Carribean, North America, all of the Phillipines, a tiny territory in Central Africa, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily and the Spanish Netherlands. But to make up for it, I also have the West Coast of France, Morroco and NW Argelia).

Also, I had the conquistadores event. At one point, I had galleons and another civ demanded Compass! I am currently clearing the Rest of South America from barbs, and settling it. Same goes for North America.

I don't do drugs; Rhye's is what has made me want to visit The Netherlands.

Aye, I share the same feeling. :D Civ IV in general and RFC in specific has made me want to study history and travel around the world. I wonder if many Civ players share similiar story. :p
