Bright day
Hmm I see poll has been expanded... but no Diomedes?? He kicked Ares ass:lol:!

Hektor, all the way, with Odysseus being a second. Hektor isn't out there to seek glory, fame, or fortune, or there for honor or slaying. At his core, he's just a man out to defend king and country, home and hearth. He's there fighting not for conquest or vengeance or honor, but to protect his wife and son and soil.

Odysseus is another man in the same vein, another reluctant hero, dragged out to feed the dogs of war when all he wants is to be with his wife and son. His entire journey in the Oddysey is not so much an adventure as his quest to get home.

Achilles and the other Greek heroes always struck me as being arrogant, selfish, individuals, willing to spill rivers and rivers of blood in seeking glory. If I were to pick someone to admire, it'd definitely be Hektor.

Odysseus, hands down, without even reading the thread. He's met the greatest and most numerous challenges to his character. He'd have the best stories to tell. He met the most bizarre creations the world has to offer. His story tells us the most about mankind's nature. Blah blah blah.

I vote Hector. Real heroes die fighting another person> I don't like Achilles because he was immortal (you know what I mean) and Hector wasn't.

Achilles did die. :p He got shot right through his heel. Why do you think we have an achilles heel for. :shake:

Hector by far! He is the most heroic.

Oddysseus is second.

Everybody hates Achilles.

I guess you didn't know what I meant.

He was dipped in the river. He was considered immortal. And he was killed because Apollo intervened in the war.

Well, even though Hector was very mortal, Athena intervened in his death. She took the form of one of his good friends, tricking him into thinking he had help.

Hector for all the reasons pointed out. He didn't want the war and had the odds stacked against him. As a child i hated all the greek heroes and especially resented Achilles. Odysseus partly redeems himself later, but i still haven't forgiven him. ;)
After Hector i like Glaucus best.
And judging from the rewards, i woul have picked Athena. But i reckon, my ability to think straight in the presence of three goddesses would be impaired, so i might have picked anyone.

Hector, of course. "One is the best omen - to defend your country" as he says (in fact, I hope this is the English translation - I know only the Ancient Greek text :))

But you underestimate Achilles: he knew that he would 100% die and still chose to go and die. Only in the Hollywood version he lives on (so much they understood from the text).

Thersites, who dared to speak some obvious truths about the war and the vainglorious buffoons getting good press for it.
