Favorite Modmod AND WHY!

Not sure how to react here. Are you just fooling with me or are you meaning I didn't make my point?

Was spoofing an earlier post you made here, is all. :p

Sorry, I didn't intend my post to sound harsh! I just meant that playing is more useful than getting a description

So far I don't like any of the mods I've played, especially not FF. I feel like everything has just spiralled out of control and they've all tried to include far too much, including a lot of stuff that either adds nothing to the game or is of dubious quality. I also can't stand most of the new civs, and the only one that I even remotely approve of is the Archos. I tend to feel like the other civs have no real place in FFH (Chislev), go against the dark fantasy setting (Mechanos and Dural), or aren't really differentiated enough from vanilla civs (Sheaim + Amurites = Khadi). I think the symmetry of vanilla FFH, with the 21 civs, 7 religions and 3 alignments gives it an air of completion and professionalism, which I think is lost on the modmods.

I also take a dim view of most of the new civs. Fortunately, FF+ lets you choose which ones can show up (not sure if Orbis or base FF has this feature), so that's not really a big problem. I typically just play with the vanilla ones.

Because most modders aren't professional, I guess. I personally don't think it shows particularly any professionalism, perhaps an attraction to magical numbers...

I agree. They seem dominated by the rule of moar. :(

Need to correct something here... That game option came from FF. Xienwolf coded it... I'm not nearly capable of that one yet.

Well.... That depends on how you look at it. A few of the FF civs, I don't think I'd have added myself. Mostly, they still feel like a work in progress... The Kahdi, Dural, so on. That said, there are plenty of vanilla civs that give me the same feel, hence Malakim+ and Doviello+.

My personal view, is that those weak civs should be improved, rather than cut, if at all possible. More civs gives Erebus more flavour, more of a fleshed-out feel. So long as they have interesting mechanics, and can hold their own against the other civs (Scions, Jotnar, etc), I'm perfectly alright with adding new civs... And will be adding one of my own eventually. ;)

im split on the matter.

one side of me LOVES new civs, (im especially looking forward to the Re Ki (plant civ) and Bezeri (aquatic civ)!) but some dont do ANYTHING for me at all (Mechanos, D'Tesh, Jotnar, Khadi, Archos). i think this is all based on personal preference though.

i also agree FF is suffering terribly from MS (Moar Syndrome) and am really looking forward to when they decide to cut down on the excess junk, HOWEVER all the new XML tags that FF has added make it almost worshipable, admitantly mostly from a modders point of view.

I think all that is partially a reason i currently prefer Orbis at the moment, because of its lesser inclination toward Moar.

The Moar thing is at least partially a result of certain modders using the mod in order to increase their skill... I know Xienwolf has said this about himself, and now I'm slowly going down that route as well.

Of course, I'm just beginning in the DLL.... But learning is always interesting. ;)

I don't see the problem with more things, as long as they are polished enough.

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up. I haven't actually played FF (only FF+), so I wasn't sure where it came from.

I'd say it's more of an overall design.. I hesitate to call it 'flaw', but I can't find another word for it. Contrary to Ekolite I actually in particular like some of the new civilizations - most notably the Mechanos, Mazatl(sp?) and Scions of Patria, and believe I'd really like the Archos.

But the sheer volume of minute changes and additions that doesn't add anything functionally different really turns me off. Sometimes it's the fact that everyone have many different modifiers to many different terrains. Sometimes it's overly intricate aspects of a single part of gameplay compared to others - such as magics; If the mechanic isn't intuative, obvious or very clearly defined, it shouldn't be in.

If I wanted to point at one thing that suffers from this that I've been thinking about lately, it's the Civics in Orbis'.

I agree they're somewhat seemingly unnecessary complex, but hey, they're still heaps and bounds better than FFH's Aristograrian = Win equation ;)

Agreed.

It should really be changed in base FfH so such civic synergies aren't as strong, but I'm fairly certain it will stay that way.

you pretty much said what i was trying to explain in a one liner :p the problem with FF is that some features arent fully 'polished' or buggy.

Well, there's still things needing to be worked on, like the Mazatl, but overall, yes, few things happen to appear in Orbis if they aren't at least 75% completed ;)

(however, uncompleted thing do appear in LENA )

Sometimes, it's just too hard to channel creativity so that it doesn't spread everywhere

The game is in feature lock, not balance lock. Convince Kael that it needs to change.

I do prefer Orbis(0.24h) ATM, for one Good Reason : I've got four games going, all well past turn 300/400 on epic speed, and not a single CTD.

As my gaming time suddenly dropped, I'm quite happy with this.
