I usally go with an industrious or philosophical leader, but there is no leader with both.

What personality trait do you guys think is most important?

For general purpose, I would usally use a Creative civ of some description. For multiplayer, or warmongering (most often both), Agressive is defenitly important, and Organized is good if you go on the offensive..

I really like creative; it lets me expand one or two tiles farther than I could if I didn't have it, because it automatically expands the borders (which is just priceless for me =) )

I think philsophical is good, but overrated. I think I've only gotten around 12 GPs max... and they ain't that useful.

Spiritual and Philosopical with that combo you can dominate religiously and get Great Prophets to build religious wonders so you can dominate money wise.

They are all my favorite trait once I learn how to use each one...

Voted for Industrious. In an OCC it seems to be a must, otherwise it's pretty helpful. Anyway, my favorite leader is Gandhi (sum of traits plus unique unit)

And I agree, it's very sad that we can't have an Industrial Philosophic leader. Probably, it was intended to keep game balance.

Interesting: at this time, nearly double the number prefer Financial to the next pair of traits. I find money fairly easy to get in Civ 4: it's all about balancing off distance with trade, maintanence and tech progression. But Industrial was my choice, because you just can't make up that difference quite as easily. It can really provide a boost, especially in the early game where every little advantage can have an enormous impact.

I chose Financial since I really like the strategy involving cottages + Kremlin wonder. Industrious is a close second though. The Civilization series to me has always been a lot about the Wonders of the World, and whenever I manage to build one I always get that good feeling of satisfaction in my stomach, even though I must've built more than a thousand Wonders in all my Civ games so far.

I like financial. The extra commerce really adds up, especially for coastal cities. A lighthouse in each one + The Colossus = a whole bunch of commerce really quickly.

Creative is real nice too.

The thing is with Financial, if you start next to the coast, or a river and drop some cottages down, you immediatly begin recieving 50% more commerce on those tiles than any other civ. That's pretty huge...

Financial. The most consistent trait in the game, not depending on the victory conditions

My vote went to Organized, mostly because I am a warmonger who likes expensive civics. Financial is really nice, I'll give it that, but it is a trait that requires optimal situations and not having pillaging units running around.

philosophical. i love great people. they are awesome. At the moment tho im just testing out how to micromanage cities to optimise great people output, but its a lot of fun.

I have to say financial is the most useful, but creative is a strong second. I don't do nearly as well when I play with any leader other than Catherine. Creative isn't just for cultural victories.

Scalefang, I disagree. Financial is huge for coastal cities, and you don't need to worry about pillaging there. And it seems like there is always more room for coastal than inland cities.

I like Creative. Whenever I try to use a non-Creative leader, building Obelisks is downright excruciating :(

And what good is Expansive when you can get The Hanging Gardens?
And what good is Philosophical when you can get The Parthenon?
And what good is Financial when you can get The Colossus?
 ;)

No one likes spiritual? Wow

I find spiritual really good since you start off with Mysticism which leads me to found the first religion quickly and then I can quickly become the holy city of that religion and build my missionaries to convert.

Fallen Angel, the spiritual trait and the mysticism starting tech are not fundamentally linked. They're seperate issues. The trait of spiritual doesn't have a substantial impact on your ability to found religions or convert people. Its main use is to frequently switch between the most beneficial civics for the situation without anarchy, for example using the civics that give +2 experience to new units when building your army and switching back to better economic traits later, or switching to universal sufferage/slavery quickly to rush build.

Financial is my personal favorite followed by creative. This to make a POWERFULL combo. sadly, the only civ that has such combo is Russia and Catherine the great. Both her starting techs suck.
