Favourite AC Quote?

Doesn't it begin "As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century..."?

We sit together
The mountain and I
Until only the mountain remains

Li Po

I particularly like this AC translation of it

"...forget what your courtesans have told you. Size DOES matter!" Morgan, on discovering some nanotech

Morgan seems to have the funniest quotes.

"Eternity lies ahead of us, and behind. Have you drunk your fill?" - Lady Deirdre Skye, conversations with planet. That was off the top of my head. And I have a headache.

Yes it does, but it's irrelevant to the point the guy who wrote it (whoever he is) is making.

Amazing we haven't heard this one already...I think I have it by memory:

"Resources exist to be consumed, and consumed they will be, if not by this generation then by some future one. By what right has this future generation got to rob us of our birthright? None say I!" then something else involving eating.

Morgan

I used this quote while debating drilling for oil in Alaska. The people I was debating with thought it was a conservative Christian belief. Little did they know that my wisdom came from a computer game?

Have to bring the thread back to post my favorite quote ever:
It's found in fac32.mp3, and to hear Zakharov say it is really neat, it's the only time in the game he raises his voice, afaik.

##Temple of Planet
Let the Gaians preach their silly religion, but one way or the other
I shall see this compound burned, seared, and sterilized until every
hiding place is found and until every last Mind Worm egg, every last
slimy one, has been cooked to a smoking husk. That species shall be
exterminated, I tell you! Exterminated!

##Recycling Tanks
It is every citizen's final duty to go into the tanks and
become one with all the people.

^ "Ethics for Tomorrow"

The quotes of AC were the highlight of the game, I think, they gave you a glimpse into the world happening underneath the command view, and made the game seem like a living breathing place.

I think Civ 4 falls flat in this by only using historical quotes instead of AC's mix of historical and fictional, and all read by Mr. Nemoy they lack impact that all the individual voices of AC had.

An example of a very appropriate and immersive quote:
##Nanomatter Editation
tech71.mp3
'Abort, Retry, Fail?' was the phrase some wormdog scrawled
next to the door of the Edit Universe project room. And when
the new dataspinners started working, fabricating their worlds
on the huge organic comp systems, we'd remind them: if you see
this message, {always} choose 'Retry.'

Don't know the exact quote so I'm summarizing

Computer Player: "Great [HUMAN PLAYER]," I surrender, for my defeat is imminent. If you will have mercy on me, I will give you all my techs and all my energy credits and I will never bother you again."

We hold life to be sacred, but we also know the foundation of life consists in a stream of codes not so different from the successive frames of a watchvid. Why then cannot we cut one code short here, and start another there? Is life so fragile that it can withstand no tampering? Does the sacred brook no improvement?

Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Universe which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. God has not been proven not to exist, therefore he must exist.

Academician Prokhor Zakharov
"For I Have Tasted The Fruit"

...My boyfriend said that one only two days ago, and I consider it the greatest ode to human logic (well, as opposed to mathematical logic) I've read.

One of my Favourites, from Morgan:

"Resources exist to be consumed. And consumed they will be, if not by this generation then by some future. By what right does this forgotten future seek to deny us our birthright? None I say! Let us take what is ours, chew and eat our fill."

CEO Nwabudike Morgan
"The Ethics of Greed"

"In the great commons at Gaia's Landing we have a tall and particularly beautiful stand of white pine, planted at the time of the first colonies. It represents our promise to the people, and to Planet itself, never to repeat the tragedy of Earth."

Lady Deirdre Skye,
"Planet Dreams"

As others also think I clearly like this one best: "Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master."

It made me think allot, and realize how true it is. It's one of those prinsiples you wish that whole humanity had, unless you are the establishement or an interest group and wish to be master of others that is

Also like the Morgan quotes allot. They are bold, selfish but progressive.

Gotta be the network node song quoted earlier or:

"Now it's day and night the irons clang; and like the poor galley slaves
We toil and toil, and when we die, must fill dishonoured graves
but some dark night, when everything is silent in the town
I'll shoot those tyrants one and all, I'll gun the flogger down
I'll give the land a little shock, remember what I say
and they'll regret they've sent jim jones in chains to botany bay"

What actually transpires beneath the veil of an event horizon? Decent people shouldn't think too much about that. -Academician Prokhor Zakharov For I Have Tasted The Fruit

The Academician's private residences shall remain off-limits to the Genetic Inspectors. We possess no retroviral capability, we are not researching retroviral engineering, and we shall not allow this Council to violate faction privileges in the name of this ridiculous witch hunt!"

Fedor Petrov
Vice Provost for University Affairs

Human beahvior is economic behavior. the particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant. Need, as well as greed, have followed us to the stars and the rewards of wealth still await those wise enough to recognize this deep *dont remember* about our common purpose (?)

CEO morgan.

hah, i cant even remeber his name! XD is kinda difficult to remember when english is not ur mother tongue XD. but this quote express pretty clearly the capitalist way of life.
