Favourite architecture

I don't really like any monuments in Australia, not including the obvious choice- The Sydney Opera House.

I was going to say Neuschwanstein, but you beat me to it.

Personally, I think Hungary's Parliament is much better than Westminster.

I have always been partial to our Westphalian water castles, myself.

here is the place where the (locally) famous Annette von Droste-Hülshoff was born

Are those domes for something in the Orthodox faith? It reminds me a lot of the Kremlin. Wonderful looking churches I say!

Onion domes (called cupolas) are a staple of Russian Orthodox architecture. You can even see some Onion domed Orthodox churches in the United States. A Kremlin is actually the fortified area of a city (the most famous in Moscow, in which several churches with golden onion domes stand):

When most people think of the Kremlin, they incorrectly think of St. Basil's cathedral:

A great example of Russian baroque architecture, but not actually part of the Kremlin.

There are actually alot of churches in Southern Germany with onion domes. I thought that was sort of unusual when I lived there.

Are they Orthodox churches?
Cupolas were influenced by the Byzantines (as pretty much everything else in Russian Orthodoxy was) and those churches in red elk's post are earlier examples of Russian Orthodox architecture. The earliest I have seen is the Saint Sofia Cathedral

The wiki article on Onion domes does say there are large numbers in southern Germany, but the whole article seems to refer to later Baroque domes, so I assume the churches you saw in Germany are much younger. I dont know why they are so prevalent there, is there a large (or even small) population of Russian immigrants there? There was a large influx of Russian immigrants in the beginning of the 20th century to Erie, PA where they settled along the lake and worked in the shipyards. My Russian teacher's parish was built right on the shore of the lake, and is a beautiful example of Orthodox architecture mixed in with a few western elements:

The domes are excellent for shedding large amounts of snow, which is good for Russia, and might explain their use elsewhere.

In my hometown their is a prominent Orthodox Church but every just calls it the "Onion Church".

As an overall style, I would say American Colonial/Federalist is my favourite. Handsome churches inspired by St Martin's-in-the-Fields, London; attractively scaled public buildings like Independence Hall in Philadelphia; Jefferson's Monticello and even the ordinary brick homes of average citizens had dignity to them. This architecture had a strong influence on parts of the Maritime provinces, Ontario and south-eastern Quebec as well before the Victorians got hold of our cities.

Exactly. This style originated from Byzantine architecture and was further developed in Russian architecture.
