There are certain features of Sid Meier's Civilization that caused a lot of discussion in this forum over the years.

I came to realize that I love some features of the game that most of the others seem to hate (or at least dislike).

Two examples:

1 - For me it's wonderful that a fortified phalanx sitting on the top of a mountain can destroy a valuable battleship.

2 - I like the fact that not all technologies that you could develop are available for selection.

I'm sure some of you must have similar experiences with different features of the game. I'm looking forward to read about it.

you are right, that same mistakes has the Snes version (I m playing it). In this version, I hate the frame (mark) because the screen looks small about that. Sorry my english is not so good, Im costarrican, but I loved the Civ 1 too !! :)

Ahh, the diplomat "teleportation" is a bug ?? When you are going to capture him and he dissapears !!

Welcome to the fora, poecraft! Your english is just fine :)
My pet love is the world generator. Everybody complains that the land is too stringy and small but I love those rolling coastlines and expansive oceans. Another thing is the insane AI. How sometimes it does such profound and irrational things.

Now that's just plain silly.

I like(d) that you could just build a city right next to an enemy city and slowly strangle it out of existence by taking over all the squares it might have used (or just run it over once you have enough units in your own city). Or that you could just build city next to city (I once filled out Italy as the Romans that way just to see how I could expand the Roman empire on the Earth map).
