Feedback thread

Santiago and strangely Morgan are most likely to go green beside Deidre.

I don't have that experience with Santiago, but I do with Morgan. Weird. I have no explanation for that. Though I don't yet exclude the possibility I just remember it better when he goes green because it seems so out of character.

@ spawning date of the new factions

Alternative ways of spawning the SMAX factions are not ruled out. However I consider the most important reason to add the SMAX factions making diplomacy more interesting, especially re the Planetary Council and Concordat Council. This means that I wouldn't mind if the SMAX4 were always weaker than the SMAC7 in terms of unit and base count. But I would want them to always at least *exist*.

Monaldinio sent me some feedback per PM in German and asked me to translate it. I'm posting the original and translation here, so everybody can chime in:

I've noticed that the computer builds a lot of sea units, but hardly any land units!!!!! Well, he builds 2 units for base defence...but that's about it! And the PC isn't really warring among each other, they declare war...but that's about it! Invasion waves as in "Civ4 BtS normal" don't happen... I have to say that the PC on "Emperor"-difficulty compared to BtS-normal is rather as cunning as a sheep, no?!?! I mean on normal BtS I sometimes really have to fight....

The natives are pretty mean...every faction loses a base on occasion...by now, the "natives" hold 10 cities...I'm leading a crusade right now to help my vasal and defence pact partner with re-conquering them...but I've wasted quite a number of units by now...despite picking 2-3 promotions specially against native lifeforms.

Cheers, LT.

With sea units, does he mean aquaformers?

Is he playing with patch m? In patch k and l there's a bug which causes the AI to build endless amounts of aquaformers.

Probably not m), as I posted about patch m) on civforum only just a few minutes ago.

Yup, I've told him in the PM as well, so not sure about it (plus, as long as it builds horders of formers, it probably builds less units in general).

Cheers, LT.

@Maniak

I play Patch k...

I have solved the Aquaformer problem for me (only 15 Aquaformers allowed) untill i compleded my current game. After that im able to download the update. Now it works good i think. The Computer builds now also baseimprovements!

But its still my opinion that the Computer build many Seaunits - Destroyer, Submarines and Hunters ect! He build not many Landunits...and thats the reason why the Nativ Life Forms capture so many Bases from the Computer, he cant defend themselves good enouth. On the other side the Native Life produce many Units to defend the captured Bases...thats unbelievable. :crazyeye:

@Pfeffersack

I suppose the AI builds so many sea units because of all the sealurks and IoD's. The BtS AI is notoriously in hunting down pirate ships in the vanilla game, and I assume it considers native sealife as pirates.

That could be...!!! ...but a bit foolish...

:high5:

I've been learning PF for the past week and have the "M" patch in. There is a city by me that has changed hands from Gaia to Santi to Zack. Each of them will at one time or another spam aquaformers still. Whether it's due to being under attack or no I cannot say, but it's there.

Also, when the Planetary governor takes over a "Gone Native" city and is not at war with you (but was with previous faction just prior to me holding it for 10 turns or so) is that just part of the perks of being the top dog? Does it matter if game has already been won by them?

I'm writing up a tons of questions from my experience with it so far and will post this w.e.
Thanks for the Mod, it rocks.

How big was the base at that point? Anyone can capture it is 3 or less.

A question...while playing Morgan and browsing the Datalinks recently to get an overview which corporation-style building consumes which ressources, I noticed some ressources which don't seem to appear in the game (not even in the ressource section of the datalinks). I just refer to the original BTS icon to name them:

- Fish
- Aluminium
- Corn

Are they just leftovers of placeholders from earlier versions? Or should they ensure that certain corporation style buildings exclude each other? I don't see that this is necessary in any case, there are enough real ressource where the building compete over to create the current situation.

I found also a very effective strategy to earn credits - build a sub, get close to someone you don't share OBs with and who has sea improvements and give the sub the Mercenary and Scavenger special abilities...especially in case of Boreholes this pays out, even if your ship should get sunk immediately in the next interturn. Based on my PF experience so far I think that this is probably intended as a strategy, so I would just like to point out that the AI should use this trick as well (especially Svensgaard)

I don't know all the gamefont icons by heart myself, but those are probably some resources which haven't got a fitting gamefont icon yet. For instance I think Fish is Coral Reef, Aluminium might be Rubidium, and Corn perhaps is Fungicide or Grenade Fruit.

What's the Mercenary spec ab? Does Irregular also give a pillage increase? Can't remember right now. :o
Pillaging is indeed intended as a viable war strategy/reason, but I determined the pillaging gold numbers before I added the Scavenger spec ab. Perhaps Scavenger should increase the pillaging reward by 50%, and I should decrease the base pillaging reward of all improvements by 33% to compensate and make it more balanced/less overpowered? What do you think?

Yep. A pirating Svensgaard is err somewhere on the to-do list. :mischief:

Ah ok, thanks.

I referred to Irregular (it is just called "Söldner" in the German Translation). Irregular does not give an extra yield, it just they prequesite to use this strategy in peace times (Bloom gives +50% pillage yield and allows the stregy as Hybrid with NL units)

I think a reduction like you suggested it could be a right move - plundering a Sea Borehole for nearly 200 Credits is practically never a mistake, even if you lose the Sub.
And that's probably a sign that something should be changed about it. Not counted the damage you did to your oppponent. If I imagine I would only get ~100-120, I don't think it would really mean that this strategy is dead. Moreover, if Svensgaard uses it on day, his ships have Scavenger already built in, so he can beef up their survival odds with another special ability.

Maniac, is this how you want the borehole cluster to look? :(

I don't understand - when I tested it, the improvement looked a little bigger for some reason when worked, but not that bigger that two different graphics started showing up.

This happened because you removed the scale attribute from the borehole cluster in PlotLSystem.

If you keep with scale 1.0 in both CIV4ArtDefines_Improvement and CIV4ArtDefines_Bonus for the borehole cluster, put <Scale>0.91</Scale> in the PlotLSystem cluster entry.
The reason two graphics show up is because it is both an improvement and a resource.

Just so you know, I will have to use scale in PlotLsystem for bigger farmdomes too.

On another note. Were you aware that since a month or two quite a number of artists are busy with leaderheads. They've become quite good. How would you feel if I asked them to take a try at Planetfall leaders?

Personally I'm not interested in 3D leaderheads.
