...so you don't consider Planetfall decent?Actually, the main feeling I'm getting from the screenshots so far is disappointment that the terrain looks so much like Civ 4 and there's no elevation, basically scuppering my hopes of a decent Alpha Centauri mod from day one.![]()
Sorry, I have no answers for you. Feel free to speculate wildly.
Sounds fun! Here we go:
Kael has been incredibly active on the forums here for years, always posting updates and commenting on lore. Then, suddenly, about three months ago *poof!*, he is gone without a trace. One month ago he came back, but his posts per day are waaaaay down. What has he been doing? What has been eating up his time?
I submit that he is working on a secret Civ5 project. That's right, ladies and gents... FFH3 is already underway, and will be released in a bundle with Civ5!!!![]()
Or it could be the either of the 'New granddaughter' or 'Writing a book' things we've heard....
It's great that Beyond the Sword has moved on from being a mere mod of Fall from Heaven and is trying to launch an actual retail product. Good on them!

Then, when CivV debuts without the amazing inclusion of FFH3, we can rise up in anger against Firaxis for treating Kael unfairly and secretly axing what was supposed to be a key component of the release!
I don't mean to offend. Planetfall is a good attempt to re-image SMAC within the limitations of the Civ 4 engine, but terrain elevation and the unit workshop are pretty big features to be missing. I blame Firaxis for this, though, not the modders. I don't know why they don't release the code for the rest of the EXE, considering that the graphics engine must be long out of date by now and that they already removed the copy protection check in the last patch....so you don't consider Planetfall decent?
If CivV is a little less hardcoded than CivIV, however, we might be able to do more about elevation - if we can define another plot type (besides Peak, Hill, Plain) and can give it a new height map, then we could be able to emulate elevations - graphically and gameplay-wise.
Cheers, LT.
Because the graphics engine used is the Gamebryo-engine which does not belong to Firaxis, they only purchased to license to use it - hence it's legally impossible for them to release the code.I don't know why they don't release the code for the rest of the EXE, considering that the graphics engine must be long out of date by now and that they already removed the copy protection check in the last patch.
Popular opinion won't impact what I end up doing, honestly; May be better off pinning your hopes on Ahwaric or Sephi. Or the FF team.![]()
Now, Cardinal -- the rack!LOL
<hands out sets of thumbscrews>
Start turning the cranks guys...

Pointing at someone else, huh?
I think the only thing we can do is to wait... and speculate wildly
Anyway, I do not plan to make FfH 3, even IF I would like to do it, it has active team on it's own and I would be just a tresspasser.
First, I am going to play unmodded Civ 5 for some time, then check how moddable it is.
And then, I might release Orbis 2.
Please do not expect it to be more FfH than Warhammer FB, might even be completly new setting. But still fantasy & medieval/renaissance eras centered.
For now, I am going to work on Orbis, test new ideas & teach myself coding.
That will make porting certain items easier when (or if) the time comes.
Good thing is, the ranged attacks are in - no need to code that...![]()
