FFH - A Shadow Introduction

Another lurking comment, based on what I saw in my own game yesterday:

Horsemen spawn in neutral/barbarian lands. Now, there seems to be a zone between the Clan, Svartalfar and Capria, but there's also your entire western edge... So be prepared to have them all pop on your side...

Problem with sanctify/spring is that the hell terrain tends to spread quicker than you can repair it. The only new source of mana we could get access to is the city Auric has in our north in any case.

Both spells must be cast on the same turn. Sanctify will temporarily clear the hell terrain allowing spring to be cast. True, the tile will turn back into hell terrain on the next turn. But it will be a fields of perdition instead of burning sands. 1:food: + 1:hammers: > 0:food:. Plus, even as the sheim, not all of your units can enter flames/burning sands. I always found that irritating.

Lately, in the few FFH games I've played, I've found teraforming to be a big advantage.

Ok guys, sorry but it seems we've become too Evil for my computer to take, put me on autoskip please until and unless I manage to find a way to deal with the horrible lag. I'd like to play in the next game so long as we don't try to turn the world into hell next time.

My suggested actions in this position, for what they're worth, would be to whip the Planar Gate and some units in the south (unhappy citizens? Whip them to death and let them come back as diseased corpses), research Soul Debt and build Infernal Grimoire to jump to Ethereal Call.

yeah, I have some ideas

Since people seem to like the the idea of terraforming, I think Ljosalfar on a deliberately barren start with little if any forest would be quite fun.

Or Perpentach where he changes his traits randomly, with the restriction that we also have to change our playstyle to better suit his new traits.

Or we could just set up the opposite to the current game, take a Good leader but place mostly Evil leaders on the map and go on a massive crusade.

Random lurker saying hello!

I've never played FfH, and I won't have access to Civ4 of any variety again until summer of this year, but I'm enjoying reading this to the point that I intend to get this mod when I finally get home.

Thanks for, uh, "converting" me, and keep up the awesome! :)

Sorry for going awol. We changed our internet operator and it became a complete mess as per Murphy. I got just back online.

Although I suspect that my comp might too suffer from lag problems.

Well, I hope my turn doesn't disappoint the warmongers out there. We started out at war with both Jonas and Auric. This would be fine except that all of our cities are starving and not producing anything. We have the means to address the problem, but I don't want to waste a perfectly good war, so I look for immediate objectives. There is a huge swath of desolation between us and Jonas already. (I see we razed the city that was adjacent to the Tomb of Succelus (Life Mana)...probably should have kept that one. We should make a note to send a settler that way later) I see two immediate objectives to take from Auric, the little pipsqueak city to our north for the mana and the Fellowship of Leaves HC just for the Hell of it (seems like an excellent reason all things considered.)

With no immediate objectives to take from Jonas, I kill as many of his troops as I can and sue for peace, getting Sailing from him as a throw away tech. All of our cities immediately get happier. I advance on Auric's position.

I also set all of our cities to producing Gambling Houses - they add additional happiness for each 10% of our tax rate(+6 or 7 at our current rate) not to mention a smidgin of gold. Once they are in place, a large part of our happiness problem will be solved for the moment and allow our future wars to last a little longer.

In an ironic twist of fate, it is Capria who pushes the AC high enough to start summoning the Horsemen as she razes a barbarian city near her lands.

and a turn later...

I deal with Stephanos. He's big and mean but no match for stacks of fear-immune Spectres. I am saddened to see that he no longer spawns a mana node where he dies. They must have changed it in a previous patch...

We raze our objectives in Auric's lands and welcome an eventful turn 370.

Yersinia falls to our waves of Spectres...

After we take our immediate objectives from Auric, I sue for peace, which he readilly accepts. Our now happy cities start popping out gambling houses. Our capitol finishes first and I am surprised to see that the engineering guild has not yet been built, so I start it. Someone made the point of how useful it could be earlier and all of their arguments are still true.

We get a Greast Sage which I send to build an Academy in the Veil Holy City.

As I leave the game in your capable hands, many of our cities have finished their Gambling Houses and moved on to Courthouses. Soon, we will be ready to wage war again, but with a stronger economy, and a happier populance. I strongly endorse Ethereal Call for our next tech. Eater's of Dreams should be amazing. They have the unique ability to kill off population in cities to refresh their casting ability. We raze the nonVeil cities as we capture them and eat the rest as we capture them to create our everadvancing Wraith army. Watch the remaining citys fall like dominoes.

Make sure you are giving our conjurors the Spell Extension promotion when they can. It gives their summoned creatures the Mobility Promotion. Giving our conjurors Combat promotions makes their summoned creatures stronger as well.

Think about sending a settler north to get that mana node north of our capitol and another south to the tomb of Succelus.

Oh, and Hyborem just gave us Currency and Bowyers and declared on Auric...

Best of luck.

I loaded up the save to look arund and boy there is alot of hellfire about

AC is sitting at a cool 78 (we have one non-AV city as well). Our troop levels is a bit low after the two wars so we might want to look at that and maybe train a settler for the uncalimed mana and some more adepts (we have no summoners currently).

I must admit I somehow missed the free life mana . Jonas has already resettled so we can capture this one next time around.

We have one conjurer able to be upgraded to eater of dreams (once we have Ethereal Call) now and two that reqire 3 more xp. It would probably be best I imagine to hold off the next war until we can field all 3.

lurker's comment: did you build the whatsisname (ragnarock something? can't remember giving the troops built there an evil mark = increasing the AC with each unit) ?It should be quite easy to get to 100 now.

I'll run the game first thing tomorrow morning and see if my system dies.
