FFH - A Shadow Introduction

Druids can grow trees. The Genesis ritual places forests on grasslands. I would go with Thessa as a leader so you can get Druids.

The Creation map (by Cephalo) would be good. Switch starting locations with another civilization, preferablly one like the Malakim (desert) or Doviello/Illians (Ice). The game places the civ in the lore area the civilization would be in.

Free promotions from mana only goes to Arcane units...which druids are not. But they will level fast enough over time.

So, once more into affray as it were...

I was able to get a few turns in before the game crashed (blue screen of death). I was able to raze 2 of Jonas' cities and 1 of Auric's. I was saving pretty regularly just in case. I reloaded and tried to play the same couple of moves and the game crashed again as I was saving the game, pretty much where it crashed before.

I'll attach both the auto-save for that turn and the save it hopefully made before the second crash. I'm now on the list of retirees from the game.

Yes, Genesis is a very good wonder. Comes rather late though. The vitalize spell can be cast only by Archmages and comparable units IIRC because it's a tier 3 spell. Pretty neat though.

Nice evil game there. Well Done. I sure hope we get to see the end of it.

For a nice touch with the terraforming project, you might want to use the end of winter option, it would give some flavor to it.

I was unable to load the save. I kept getting a "load failed" message, without any other explanation. I was able to load the autosave, though. I even did a shift-enter to make sure the turn would play. I've got quite a bit of lag, but it at least played. We'll see how Darrell does ...

Are we going to wait for patch L to start the new game? I was looking through the python code for the map scripts trying to figure out how to make forest generation extremely sparse, but haven't found it yet.

ruff_hi over DM way said:
typically, map scripts set things up and then call another script with parameters to generate the actual terrain. see the 'gen terrain' part and the parameters. I'd suggest finding a mapscript with something similar to this (from the rainforest script) ...

class RainforestFeatureGenerator(CvMapGeneratorUtil.FeatureGenerator):
def __init__(self, iJunglePercent=85, iForestPercent=15,
forest_grain=6, fracXExp=-1, fracYExp=-1):

... and then modding the forest percentage.

Here's some advise ruff_hi offered. I'm not going to be in a position to look at how feasable this is until tomorrow night but it seems that modifying the rainforest script to have jungle and forest at 0 or 1 percent could be the way to go.

I'm not sure that a modified rainforest is the way to go. The underlying map is fairly uniform ... grass and collections of mountains. Look at some of the other maps and see if you can mod them. Maybe big and small or something like that.

The other option is to ask in the FfH forum.

A funny thing happened when I loaded the save...a portal opened and this Imp crawled out and knocked me out of the chair. He grabbed the mouse and did some things, then popped back into Hell. When I looked at my screen, lo and behold the forces of Armaggedon had a new, tricked out unit of doom :devil::

With all those cool promos the unit had fifteen moves per turn, and blitz to boot :ar15:. It was like a hot knife through butter:

Had fun with this one fellows, and learned quite a bit :hatsoff:. I'd vote to just go ahead and start the next one when uberfish has the map figured out and patch along the way.

good to see that you were researching 'commune with nature' :D ... time to get those tree huggers out!

Maybe I missed part of the discussion, but why do you want to eliminate all of the forests? I can understand the terraforming aspects, but it seems to me that it would hurt the AI infinitely more than the human. I've not seen the AI using spells to any degree, so I don't know that it would actually do any terraforming.

It might be best to have a third party just world build the heck out of our land...lots of plains and desert and no vegetation. If we did that and left the AI lands alone, we might need to drop down to Emperor.
